Kingdom Hearts III is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It is the twelfth installment in the Kingdom Hearts series, a sequel to Kingdom Hearts II, and the final chapter in the Dark Seeker saga. Set after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, returning protagonist Sora is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey and Riku in their search for the seven Guardians of Light and the "Key to Return Hearts" as they attempt to thwart the restored Xehanort's plan to bring about a second Keyblade War. Their journey has them cross paths with characters and visit worlds.
The main protagonist and playable character of the game is Sora, a 15-year-old boy who uses a key-shaped weapon called the Keyblade to battle the forces of darkness. Sora is accompanied by Donald Duck and Goofy, the royal magician and knight captain of Disney Castle, respectively. The three are supported by other Keyblade wielders, several of whom they must rescue in preparation for their final confrontation with Master Xehanort, the series' primary antagonist, as "guardians of light": Mickey Mouse, an experienced Keyblade Master who is Donald and Goofy's king; Riku, a Master and Sora's best friend; Kairi, another of Sora's friends, a Princess of Heart, and a novice wielder; Aqua, a Master trapped in the realm of darkness; Ventus, a comatose boy whose heart has merged with Sora's; Terra, a young man who was possessed by Xehanort; Axel/Lea, a former member of Organization XIII and fellow novice with Kairi; Roxas, Sora's Nobody, who merged his existence with Sora's; and Xion, a replica member of the Organization whose existence was erased from her friends' memories. With the exception of Terra, the guardians of light serve as temporary party members during the late portions of the game, with Riku and Aqua being playable during other portions; in the downloadable "Re Mind" scenario, Roxas and Kairi are playable as well.
Following Master Xehanort's return, Yen Sid begins preparing for seven Keyblade wielders to counteract Xehanort's plan to forge the χ-blade using a reconstituted Organization XIII. Sora, who was nearly taken over by Xehanort,[b] discovers that he has lost much of his own strength as a result. Accompanied by Donald Duck and Goofy, Sora resumes his travels across other worlds to regain his "power of waking", the ability to restore lost hearts. Meanwhile, Riku and King Mickey search the realm of darkness for Aqua, while Kairi and Lea train as Keyblade wielders.
The seven Keyblade wielders depart for the Keyblade Graveyard to battle the Organization, only to be consumed by a swarm of Heartless summoned by the possessed Terra. Sora awakens in a limbo realm called the Final World, where his heart is sustained by Kairi's power, while a Chirithy guides him in restoring his fragmented body. He then uses the power of waking to revive his friends and travel back in time moments before their initial defeat, which is averted by the intervention of Terra's Lingering Will. The guardians of light successfully destroy most of the Organization's members; in the process, Terra regains control of his body and reunites with Aqua and Ventus, while Lea reunites with Xion, whom Vexen recreated for the Organization, and Roxas, who regains his own heart to protect Lea and Xion.
In a post-credits scene, Xigbar, who survived the Keyblade War, retrieves Xehanort's Keyblade and summons four of the five Foretellers, revealing himself to be an incarnation of their fellow Keyblade apprentice, Luxu. He begins to recount his actions to the Foretellers, with Maleficent and Pete watching from afar. In a flashback to their youth, Eraqus and Xehanort begin a new game of chess that predicts a battle between Sora, Luxu, and the Foretellers.

Given that when you normally destroy separated parts in KH they try to return to the original, what I tend to think is destroying Terra’s Will here just sent it to try to return to Terra’s heart, and thus the puppet guardian heartless finally having the will to rebel. Looks like that one boomeranged back at you, Terranort.

That's what I think as well. Terra-Xehanort made a big mistake by destroying the Lingering Will. That's also the reason why he looks so shocked when the Guardian emerged to save Aqua and Ventus.

I don't think some people understand what the Lingering Will is- yes it's terra's rage and despair but it's also his will to protect his friends and he completed his goal by protecting the Guardians of Light and Sora.

@@Devil_Slayer mostly definitely, he was the only one who was powerful enough to fight Vanitas and Xehanort, ended up beating terranort, and was the only one who took on 2 of the Xehanort Clones. Indeed he is the strongest.

Still can't understand why most of the fans roast him (aside from the growing toxicity from part of the fandom). He was tricked like many characters in the saga (Riku-Ansem in KH1, Ventus-Vanitas in BBS, Sora-Organization in DDD... In fact, everything continues because of Terranort's possesion. Even something happened to Xehanort in Dark Road before turning "bad") and still wanted to protect his loved ones and managed to keep resisting all this time (Blank Points; Hidden truths, KH2 battle, 0.2 sacrifice, KH III confrontation with Xehanort -Terranort- and the Guardian moment...). I mean, everyone can have an opinion (respectful, or at least it should be like that) but facts are facts. 💪 #TERRASUPPORTIVECLUB

@@aleerodriguezheredia4202 the thing is that Terra being manipulated makes sense with little flaw too. Eraqus not only didn't name him master for one tiny moment his darkness slipped out but he then sent him out to do a task under aqua's surveillance showing a level of distrust. Aqua also kinda criticized terra for all the "terrible" things he did when he didn't even do much outside of Aurora's light being stolen by someone he tried to help with good intentions. BBS is a fall story so characters making mistakes that lead to their demise or fall of a great orginizations is the point.

Not really. He got jumped by Terranort due to protecting the incapacitated Sora, plus being the hollow armor he was made him vulnerable to be destroyed. He was holding out fine against Terranort until the later summoned the Guardian (which, mind you, did not exist during their first fight) to destroy him. He would pretty much be destroyed anyway if not for future Sora arriving to help him.

What I would like to see in a fanfic mod: •Note: all of this would be in the classic graphics. Takes place during the KH3 terranort fight. LW is diving into Terra’s Station of Awakening on the Keyblade Glider. LW fights Terra who is wielding No Name and uses Terranort’s moveset with some of his other commands. LW might fight the way in BBS. Then, LW would face 1000 heartless but with his KH2 moveset. The Guardian appears in the form of DDD second phase with Terra trapped inside. LW would use his desperation move to easily defeat it. Finally, Terra and the Gaurdian are in a Trinity position. LW is about to use his Ultima Cannon to destroy them but flashes to Ven and Aqua as well as seeing a vision of Riku as his successor which made him change his mind. LW decided that saving and reuniting with his friends instead of destroying his possessed self as a real way to set things right. LW heads towards Terra and the Guardian and all three performed Trinity which signals Terra’s return.

for real though for real. terra killed xehanort. terra beat the life outta terranort, terra tried to kill himself and terranort at the end of the bbs terranort aqua fight. and then terra kicked xehanort outta his body as the dark figure(guardian screw that name) terranort got carried HARD by the guardian in the BBS aqua fight. ansem ain't nothin without the guardian. WHEN HAS TERRA EVER BEEN SHOWN NOT TO BE THE STRONGEST CHARACTER IN THE SERIES. screw aced vs invi in backcover we dont have baselines for that fight. terra is the be all end all giga chad of xehanort destruction.

Aqua beat Terranort (STOP FUCKING CALLING HIM TERRA XEHANORT IS FUCKING MORONIC) twice even with the GUARDIAN and LW is far more powerful than anyone and this is how fucking goes down? Well, if it makes you feel any better, its death is what allowed Terra to come back. Destroying the armor caused Terra's will to return to his heart, which ended up backfiring on Terra-Xehanort because it allowed the Dark Figure to finally stand up against him.

@@Devil_Slayer I've realised that LW sacrifice was necessary 'cause it represents Terra's mind, so if the third part of him didn't reunite with his body and his heart, the latter couldn't have the chance to rebel against xehanort grasp and get back his body. Before LW's death, terranort guardian attacked the armor, while after his death, the Heartless rebelled against his Master

In BBS everyone gets their armor destroyed too somewhat, specially if you remember the cutscene for the secret ending for kh2 where Aqua, Ven and Terra fight Master Xehanort and Vanitas, you literally can see all the damage they had and still when terra was about to finish Master Xehanort and he was going to posses him he activated his Keyblade armor as new again, even though it was in vain and he still got possesed by Xehanort. It's like bonded to the wielder.

He didn’t, Ends of Earth is a powered up Keychain form But Earthshaker is the default original form for Terra’s Keyblade It’s the same as Sora using Kingdom Key

@@thetruth2836 Sora's keyblade was originally supposed to be Riku's, story-wise, so it kinda makes sense, also since 0.2 bbs showed that the Kingdom Key had a Dark version of the dark side of the world in destiny islands where he got his keyblade originally and mickey did use this one, it makes sense that NOT gameplay wise, his Keyblade is this powerful, also Oathkeeper is just a way to represent Kairi and Sora's Bond (as well as kairi's memories, if you remember when Roxas did beat Xion and absorbed her power, being able to summon two keyblades which transformed in both Oathkeeper and Oblivion), as well as Oblivion represents Riku and Sora's Bond and memories, this way Roxas holds a part of Sora too and a a connection to him that makes sense, imo Roxas wielding both makes more sense.

Terra: "if thats what it takes..." Terra's Will was losing and Sora's inclusion didnt change the outcome, but it did change the way he was defeated. instead of being crushed with all his rage intact, Terra saving Sora in that moment throws away that "at all costs" part, because he wasnt going to let someone else pay that cost. im going to pretend that single moment of clarity was necessary to have his heart and mind become one, so now i have a reason for Sora to be there.

Mate, you realize Terranort was confused and aggravated until the moment he used The Guardian right? It's literally only to make Sora important did a simple grab catch LW, whom we all know is way to much of a better fighter to even let that happen. The sacrifice makes little sense either since the literal first thing Lw did in the fight was use the whip, which it coulda used then. *Terranort wasn't even looking at Lw anymore*

So....what exactly did Sora turn up to that fight to do? Why did this scene even exist? It didn't really change that LW got destroyed either way, kinda feels like a bit of a pointless interlude to throw in, the literal only new context we got for that entire fight, was Terranort saying that Sora was going to end up paying for using that kind of power (granted, Sora mocking him for thinking he was the only person with time travel powers was kinda cool).

What? You don't think it was vital Sora got grabbed so LW had to sacrifice himself then get grabbed again? The plot would of never worked otherwise... I'm joking of course, what was the point of putting Sora there f it amounted to nothing of substance aside from one good quip from Sora?

As much as I enjoy lingering will beating Terra-nort I would have much rather seen him treat Terra-nort like he treats sora in kh2 in that he makes that pointy eared no-Heart having body stealing most likely perverted nonetheless uber powerful old goat like a complete fucking novice until xehanort rage quits and leave terras body
