@@bennyharvey6710 There's a missable scene with Pinocchio during the 2nd visit that features him actually stealing from the shop; I should've brought it up in this video to cut down on the comments lol. Cid is definitely referencing that.
My favorite thing about KH1 is just how mysterious it is. There were so many little things that used to intrigue me when I was little, its so great seeing it all compiled in one video! Thanks
Thanks for watching! I've got a follow-up in the making that'll cover some more stuff, at least 20 more things. Some stuff I literally learned a few days ago, which is crazy to me. The mysterious atmosphere truly never dies!
The tunnel that Leon was in, before getting in yensids house, and much of the weirdness around traverse town and especially if you were like me and never played a ff game before playing this ( I was like 5 at the time around 2007) the ff characters were incredibly cool and I was and still in love with clouds kh1 appearance. I also unknowingly without regrets bought kh2 twice once for my 5th and again on my 6th
@@deaj8450 I’d have to disagree with you on 3. The storytelling of 3 is a mess, but the gameplay is incredibly solid. Sora’s air combos move very fast, and you can aerial dodge to cancel out at any time before the finisher animation if you need to evade
@@spindash64 I just don't enjoy the situation command system, I do like some of the keyblade transformations. If I liked 3s story I wouldn't really focus on my dislike of the gameplay, but since I don't it's the only thing that I rely on to enjoy the game. Wish they would've taken 2s system and combos and just expanded and added to it rather than change as much as they did.
Something pretty obscure I found out recently is that in the Trickmaster fight, you can actually target the base of the stove and hit it with Blizzard to turn it off, effectively getting rid of half of his moveset (unless you accidentally light his batons on fire yourself with magic). God, I love this game so much.
I just realized something new about that fight yesterday! I always knew Trickmaster could squash the table and chair flat, but I never knew his attacks could rotate the table around. I was trying to climb up then all of a sudden Sora is holding on with one hand getting spun around! Fought him at least 5 times since I was 11 years old and still learning new stuff. I love that about this game
I've always wondered whether Leon's concerns about the puppies was a reference to his love interest in FF8 havinga dog. She's not in the game, so she can't do it. But I guess Leon's fulfilling the role while she's gone. He's the only one, besides the fat guy, who brings it up, I believe.
"I'm the king of the hat" Never could a joke and reference to the game have been more cooperative with a youtuber's logo. The stars aligned for that joke and you snatched it. I'm proud of you.
7:38 When you revisit Traverse Town, the time Riku shows up, If you visit the Accessory Shop before ringing the bell, Cid won't be in there. Instead, you will find Pinocchio poking around the shop! HE has been stealing from Cid, and that is also why everyone knows Pinocchio when they reach Monstero (which cause a LOT of confusion for me until I found this hidden scene).
It also happens if you visit the Accessory shot after Agrabah and before Monstro, which is when I saw it. I assume that they expected you to go there once you got green trinity, because they tell you to, and then notice that there's no shopkeeper.
"Even as a die hard player you'll likely learn a few things" Pfft I know everything about this game. "Triangle or Lockon+Triangle commands donald & goofy in combat" *Surprised Pikachu face* You my dude get a sub.
That's how I defeated the dragon Maleficent Boss fight. There's a vine close by you can jump on and walk to the top. Maleficent can't hit you from there. Just spam Triangle for a solid, 15 minutes and she goes down.
The only time you'll see Riku cast Dark Firaga in KH1 is when Sora shoots Fire magic at Ansem-Riku and counters back with Dark Firaga. Pretty cool considering this move is staple of Riku's arsenal from KH2 since. Also if you cast gravity on human form Jafar, he'll cast a rainbow protective shield around himself that's eerily similar to an attack Kurt Zisa uses constantly.
Dark Firaga is also what Riku tries to murder Sora with in the cutscene before the fight in the entrance hall. It's also one of his sleights in Chain of Memories.
If the tires in Crash Team Racing were sprites animated to change with the camera angle, I don't see why they can't animate Minnie's ears. There are Mickey Mouse games and the ears work well in cutscenes.
#72-76 to me are so brilliant, because not only it shows how clever the developers and writers were in thinking of players trying this out, but it really changes the story and development of Sora and Riku's relationship. It becomes less of best friends having a falling out and more of Sora sensing something's not right and wanting to confront who this Riku imposter is.
You can tell Riku is already possessed by the SoD in that cutscene too, as he knows Sora doesn't recognize him. Something I never considered is that maybe the SoD/Riku kidnapped Pinocchio because he knew of Pinocchio's potential to grow a heart. Hearts are synonymous with souls in this series, so it'd make sense that the SoD would be curious as to how a once inanimate assemblage of wood could have a heart.
In the Green Room in Traverse Town, the paintings around the room correspond to the clock. Every time you hit the clock, it advances the time 1 hour. When the time matches one of the paintings it makes a noise. After all three it makes a special noise and spawns the chest.
More testing required but something I discovered on a lvl 1 run recently: If donald or goofy are knocked out, it appears as though using a trinity mark revives them to half health
You earned my sub simply by showing how to get that chest in Hollow Bastion by freezing the bubble. That thing drove me crazy for years. Edit: Also because "Depressediny Island" made me laugh
#17 I’ve always assumed that Cid is referring to moogles upstairs, but Pinocchio makes much more sense. #27 I never knew you could jump straight to the cliff. Nice shortcut!
The thing I love about Disney movies/games/parks/etc. in general is a thing called “plussing”. This is where if anyone has an idea or any small detail, they will add it in some form into their games or movies. This adds a unique element of realism in these and it gives the characters more life. Basically when they plus stuff it is like a million little Easter eggs that are noticed probably more when you revisit Disney’s creations.
I'm someone finding your video 2 years later, and finding it fairly interesting honestly. I knew some of these, but yeah, not all, and that's always fun. Thank you for sharing. Might even replay this just to do so sometime.
This video deserves a like only for the #57, that was funny. There were at least 15-20 things I didn't know and I have played the game four times, so I think you have made a good work.
Just found you and wanted to tell you that I've now watched every video you've made. You do really good content and have what I generally consider to be a really good sense of humor. Keep doing content dude. Idk how in the hell you dont have more subs but you're definitely one that's gonna make it to the bigger channel size. 🤙
There were a surprising handful of secrets I had no idea about (27, 44, 46, 55, 65, 69, 70, 76, Deprestiny Islands😆, 85). Great video👍🏼 Also: When kairi is telling sora on the first day on the islands that she doesn't remember anything about where she came from, the camera doesn't let you see her face or specifically eyes. As a trope in anime, Japanese cinema, and even movies elsewhere, this kind of framing implies that the speaker is lying. Even though melody of memory let's us know that she doesn't remember everything (makes sense since trauma plus her being like 4 to 5 years old) we do know by the end of kh1 that she remembered quite a bit about hollow bastion/radiant garden.
I came back and revisited this video just to comment that I'm replaying Kingdom Hearts 1 (now on the PC) for the 1000th time, and I noticed for the first time ever that Tidus has his actual little x of a scar on his cheek and I've never noticed that in Kingdom Hearts before. There is always something new, you're totally right.
Learned a couple things from this since I didn’t know about some of those save point ones nor the boss drop outs. I learned the alternate scenes just from being curious about the sequence break since Olympus and Monstro weren’t required to play and that you could visit Deep Jungle before Wonderland. I don’t think I’ve ever missed any of the chests in KH1 or KH2, though I can’t say the same for BBS (three characters makes it a little tricky), DDD (huge worlds) or KH3 (three guesses why)
I'm glad you picked up some new stuff! Y'know, when it comes to the chests, I love that KH1 doesn't keep track of them. When all of the other ones have spots in the journal, it makes me go out of my way to get all of them lol
The "run up darksides arm and smash him in the face" thing is a as nice thing nobody ever notices. I will never forget when i first heard about Kingdom Hearts, it was revealed in a game informer article, actually the issue after a very important & pivotal E3... I say this because it was the same isue where the game cube, SSBM, metroid prime, star fox (gamecube) was announced for nintendo. i remember going to my mom and saying "idk when this comes out, but I NEED a ps2 for this game..." anyway in the article they made that suggestion about fighting darkside... so its something I knew about from the moment I popped the first kingdom hearts into my ps2... good vid
Cid talking about noises in the shop - after he opens his gummi shop, but before going to monstro, go in and out of the shop to find pinocchio, the little thief.
Wow I did learn a few things I'm surprised you didn't mention how you can get another cheer from 100 acre woods by beating a bunch of record times on all the mini games
16:00 I remember playing Kingdom Hearts 2 and realizing that Destiny Islands is actually a way bigger chain of islands than we thought complete with a school system with professional uniforms and it really does make you see Riku's desire to leave in KH1 in a new light. It's less "kid in a dead end world wants to see what the universe has to offer" and more "kid who really doesn't want his summer vacation to end" (Yes, that's a Roxas joke) and it honestly does fit Riku's character
I played every game (twice bc I played them when they came out and then in chronological order bc i felt like it), watched videos about KH, I read fanfictions (I AM NOT ASHAMED ABOUT THAT! SOME OF THEM ARE REALLY GOOD!) and I have a keyblade on my wall (I cosplayed Kairi). I even wrote a skript for my friends to understand the story behind this (which they didn't understood since it's kingdom hearts and everytime you think you get used to the story, Nomura comes in and says: "ey you not seem confused enough; need more confusing content?") (yes btw, we need that) and I made my sister play this series (she actually isn't a gamer, she likes disney tho)... I thought I would know anything about this damn game and STILL! Xehanort was right: One who knows nothing, can understand nothing... Oh but thanks for the video, I guess I have to replay the games again to get a closer look to all the details now (thanks quarantine) 😅👍
@@RegularPat I can't wait to give it a try. Hollow Bastion is always fun to go through, but man does having to circle around for those blocks always suck. It's like learning about the Deep Jungle vine skip all over again, hah.
You can’t turn Minnie around in the journal because of the ears. KH1 tried to emulate the animated look of Mickey and Minnie’s ears, which always face the camera no matter which direction they’re looking. KH2 ditched this mechanic and gave us our first ever side look at the ears.
I love this game so much. It was my first kingdom heart when the 1.5 collection hit North america... so a long story, my brother was a kingdom hearts fan before me, I didn't really care for the franchise at all and just stuck with other games. Well, my brother was stuck on Chernabog, and I decided to help him out of kindness, I died many, many times until I learned his pattern, finally defeated him, and decided to continue onto whatever was left. Boy, I was in for a world of hurt when I got to ansem... mind you, this was my first time playing the game and at the final world too.. but I kept going and saw that satisfying explosion when the world of chaos was taken down. I felt super proud of myself. Since then i consider kh1fm to be my all-time favorite in the franchise. It's just magical... idk how to explain my love for this game.
I believe Cid is making reference to the Moogles setting up shop above his shop, that would be the noise and I wouldn't be surprised if they Re taking things as well
I love the first Kingdom Hearts as well because it is way less streamlined and creative with this stuff. I particularly like how every spell has a field effect, right down to having beat the Phantom by -stopping the clock- to prevent Doom. I found the Snow White stuff on my first playthrough and specifically waited until after Hollow Bastion to see what would happen in Monstro with Riku so I knew those. I believe several of the chests I wasn't aware of though. The only really cool thing you missed was that after you enter Neverland and until you beat Anti-Sora, Sora will be without a shadow in any other world.
To be fair, a lot of this does depend on difficulty. On easy especially, the games are, well, actually easy. Enemies go down quickly, 9 times out of ten even the special boss, so you basically only need to know maybe one or two dodge patterns. I think that's why all the 'special Final Mix' heartless in KH1 were more minigames than enemies.
About 57: This game was made in Japan. In Japan, school years start in early to mid April, with only one day of the week off, but sporadic holidays and a small mid year vacation in there. I think they only get like, one or two moths off too.
Amazing video, but I wanna mention something in Wonderland. You can actually break Donald and Goofy out of their cages in the card fight. Very easy to miss since the cages themselves cannot be locked on. Also in Wonderland, I am pretty sure you can lock onto the latch of the shelf where the teddy bear sits. You hit the latch to release the shelf, not the teddy bear.
Really loving your videos! I couldnt beat maleficent dragon when i was a kid, but now I did at 34 thanks to you. Haha I have a ton of games to play, looking forward to watching more of your work as I move through the games
Wow im surprised that you know about the alternate cutscenes...not many people know about those! Did you find them yourself or did you see them somewhere?
I think a mixture of both, but it's been so long it's hard to tell. I remember finding the Snow White one on my own but I know they were all documented somewhere else long before i made this vid.
Oh my god, that very last chest one... Only year or two back with the help of the internet did I find out about the bubble freezing and the chest you can find with it, but that last chest is completely new information to me. Fucks sake there is so much detail in this game.
I know this video is old but in Wonderland you don’t attack the teddy bear, you attack the little string holding up the shelf that the teddy bear is on
I honestly did not know you could freeze the bubbles in hollow bastion... and I did the entire game, journal and all, soooooo many times!!! *mind blown*
Aha, I gotcha on #31! There's TWO missable chests here; you get the first chest by going to the Rabbit Hole after Alice is captured by the Queen but before you gather the evidence, and the second one appears after she disappears from her cage but before the section in Neverland. Then after Neverland is the THIRD chest, which of course is not missable. The three items are a Camping Set, a Mega Potion, and a Megalixir!
There is a boulder near the raft on Destiny Islands that you can break instead of push, it blocks off a small cave with a mushroom in it, if you jump onto it weird and freeze in falling animation it will eventually explode.
I know I’m a bit late to the party, but I’ve got a fun one. In Halloween Town, in Oogie Manor, if you find a way to land on the arch and open the chest on it, then you lock yourself out of doing the red trinity right below it, as there’s nothing to knock down anymore. I restarted my playthrough because of this.
Awesome video. The one thing I noticed about monstro that didn't make much sense to me is it still plays out as if Sora met pinocchio and has knowledge about him and his conscious, even if you don't trigger that event in traverse town where pinocchio was stealing stuff. I honestly didn't know that event existed until I watched your other video and was confused why the dialogue in monstro was like that but now it makes sense. The developers maybe forgot to create or implement a different scenario for that? Idk. If so it's kind of funny and unfortunate that they put so much effort and thought into the different scenarios for monstro but missed something that obvious when not everyone even knows the pinocchio event exists in traverse town accessory shop prior to visiting monstro. It would've been cool as an easter egg, but now it's like if you don't trigger that event it won't make as much sense lol. They probably should've just made it mandatory to trigger an event in the accessory shop if they were set on Sora meeting pinocchio in traverse town being canon.
So I'm not the only one that has played kingdom hearts more times than they can count. You pay attention more though, there's was a lot of stuff I didn't know
I'm pretty certain that (no.17) Cid talking about things disappearing from his shop and hearing noises is a reference to the Moogle store that opens up above his shop later in the game. I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I last played.
