What surprises me the most about this fight is that how little effort Xemnas seems to put into it. He'll do small combos with his ethereal blades, then just attack from a distance.
@@grandmasterjayd1184 Not at all, that all happens during Chain of Memories, and the memory aspect actually surprised him, he was just using her as a back up/duplicate of Roxas, the memory thing was beneficial in the end though
@@redictor The funny thing is in Kingdom hearts 2, before we knew about final mix outside of Japan, there was one cutscene right after Sora wakes up you can see a part with all the other memores of Sora where Sora is fighting the Unknown and deflecting the energy blast before the fight begins. This was in the English version of Kingdom Hearts 2 as well.
Xemnas's fight was so good in KH1. It gave the feeling that he was just toying with you. Throughout the fight, even through his insanely graceful twirls, he looked so relaxed, as if he had all the time in the world.
in all fairness he's testing sora but he's also using his best weapon "interdiction" (that's the name of the red ethereal blades Xemnas uses) instead of his base weapon "Malice"
@@WednesdayMan Still Sora was from a logical point of view, no match for him ... Same with Sephiroth in the entire franchise ... as if Sora would actually be a match for Sephiroth... maybe (and thats a BIG MAYBE!) KH3 Sora would be a match for him ... but still he wont go out of the fight as a winner ...
@@venar4248 idk man, keyblades are pretty powerful, and it’s implied in KH2 that not only can keyblades chose their wielder, but they can guide the user’s strikes. Roxas’s keyblade pulled him towards the nobody to defeat it.
He doesn't even try. He's literally just playing around the entire fight. Practically dancing at times. It's such a well designed fight, and it's one of the defining moments for the power scaling of the series. Here you are at the end of the game, and here's a boss that makes you feel like youre underdeveloped and really have to bring your all. The holder of Ultima Weapon being pressed like that...*chefs kiss*
I'd like to applaud Xemnas in this fight for being able to take a beating in the fight and not making a sound himself, sound coming only from the energy of his attack's Seriously he doesn't even need to grunt when you whack him in the face with the keyblade.
Phoenix Champion Because Sora is alot weaker in Kh1 so I imagine his attacks just barely effects Xemnas. Remember, it took both Sora and Riku to take Xemnas down in KH2 and even then they were exhausted af by the end of the battle.
Its terrifying that the idea of this character existed 2 years before chain of memories and 3 before 2. Like back then you really had completely no idea who this person was at all till you saw the same cloak design in chain of memories 2 years later. Thats such an awesome tease.
@@dragonmist9963 The Unknown figure/Xemnas was added in the Final Mix version of the game, 9 months after the originals Japanese release. Final Mix was exclusive only to Japan, and wouldn't be released in the west until 11 year later. Due to this, Kingdom Hearts 2 in the west had a plot hole as the cutscene where Sora fights Xemnas is present during the prologue, despite being absent in the original version of the game. You have no idea how stumped and confused I was when I first saw this during Roxas's restoration sequence, thinking that I missed an important part of the previous game when it only existed in the "updated" version. I'm still bitter about the Final Mixes even to this day for having to wait years for an official release of these versions.
I knew from the start that the black cloak guy you met in Castle Oblivion wasn't Xemnas In Re:Chain of Memories, you actually see he drops petals from flowers, so the real identity of the black cloak guy in Castle Oblivion is Marluxia/Lauriam. Even though I haven't played all of the games, I sure am immersed in its lore
What made this fight scary to me is that he completely no sells your attacks, doesn't flinch to anything you throw at him which means you aren't even hurting him while Sora and his friends are fighting for their lives.
@@douk3395 *Mysterious figure fighting to get back up for 5 seconds* *Mysterious figure immediately cast Shock like a fucking Sith Lord* *Sora gets hit with low HP* AWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwww...
+John Sargent i agree because the newer one just sounds faster. this has more depth from the dark emotion. explains his character very well. i feel bad for those people who hasn't discovered who is REALLY is.
This fight... the first time... it made you feel like you are not prepared, it was on a Complete different lvl. the music... so Amazing. This is THE hardest Xemnas Boss fight ever.
Xemnas at his most powerful. The way he fought here was nothing how he fought in KFII. He actually used attacks that resemble the force grip and force lightning.
Tbh, the complete opposite for me. Atleast when you got to a high level, you could literally beat his ass on first try. Even Sephiroth took me more tries then.
No, its Xemnas. When you beat Xemnas the first time in KH 2, he says: "So, it was not a fluke..." Or something along those lines. He's referring to this battle.
Saw a gut at Youmacon dressed exactly like this guy. He was so accurate it was scary. I took a picture and his face literally looks like straight darkness
@@giratina56 uh... only the single match superbosses in KH Final Mix require Sora to go alone, meaning that Sephiroth and Ice Titan are the only ones Sora has to go alone (well technically I guess there are 5 super bosses)
Tinker Bell, Strike Raid, Megalixers, Ultima Weapon, and every ability you can muster against this guy. He will wreck you the moment the battle begins if you're not careful.
It's best if you do. But it takes three Lucky Strike abilities and most of the Final Mix only enemies to beat are required to get enough materials to get it.
After beating KH1 - and before KH2 released - I scoured the web for a copy of Final Mix and came up short, and ended up ordering it from a seller that was gonna take 2 months to get it to me, which would be after KH2 hit. Since I'd already purchased it, I justified downloading a copy of it with a translation patch and burning it/setting up my PS2 to play it. When I got to this fight, I was super hype. Something new I'd never seen, a character that seemed to completely trump every other challenge in the game. Took me the better part of a day to actually manage to beat him. This song was cemented in my memory. When KH2 hit, and I got to the latter half of TWTNW, the first fight with Xemnas kicked off, and this song started playing? Dear christ, the "go mode" switch in my head clicked, and it was one of the most insanely memorable boss fights I've ever played. That's how you make a player feel like their character progressed - Make their character barely scrape by, and then way later, have them absolutely rip the boss apart on a later encounter. It felt so satisfying.
@@GuyHeadset I mean terra never armored up in kh3 so that probably explains why he doesn't know it's actually terra but then again they fought in the keyblade graveyard and sora was surprised when he arrived there in kh 3, but then again sora was awkwardly surprised by a lot of things in kh3 even though sora done seen it all in all kh series before 3. So eh
i am the broken piteous remnant of true humanity, the lord of nothingness and nonexistence. i am the shell, the tainted shadow of a man whose presence i am blessed and doomed never to comprehend. try as you might, you cannot defeat me, for i do not truly exist. i am the shadow hanging thick upon the heart of the world. i am the darkness that creeps emptily into the minds of countless others. I'm what's left, or perhaps, i'm all that ever was.... i am.....the disappeared.
"I am the shadow hanging thick upon the heart of the world" "I am the darkness that creeps emptily into the minds of countless others" This sounds more like a secret boss fight with the literal devil.
Dear god, the line with the darkness creeping emptily into the minds of countless others was purely unintentional, I think i wrote this before i ever played kh3d.
This specific version is my favorite, more than the KH2 version and the .5 ones for each game. Maybe the bass is louder, maybe it's the piano, but something about this version always sounded the best for me.
I'm gonna be completley honest, the name if the song tied with the song itself puts me in a cold sweat & gives me goosebumps, either i'm a pissbaby or the omnious man in the dark-cloak who speaks in riddles & kicked my ass 7 times is spooky as hell.
+Nicholas Hinds very different battle mechanics. In KH1 there are no reaction commands to aid you. But at the same time that is what made the first IMO superior than the second. It was far more challenging.
Nicholas Hinds I already beat him in proud mode with the Kingdom key at that. With the right items, and avoiding that move that you have to click the right command to get out off he isn't all that hard.
And even MORE years later, now that Kingdom Hearts 4 is out, we have people speculating that Future Donald is actually Goofy's wife from a alternate universe
Its because the games reflect timeline differences. Terras lingering spirit (Enigmatic Soldier) was much further down the timeline than when he first manifested in BBS, so his skills had grown in reflection of the passing time. Thats why hes stronger in KH2 than he was in BBS. The same way Xemnas is way harder in KH1, even though he has the same skills (he just uses them differently), because Sora is far stronger in KH2 than in KH1, making the same opponent seem "weaker" when faced again.
This guy is a pain in the butt when I first fought him in KH1. Had to use Strike Raid many times to bring this silver-haired jerk down. Yes, it was simple minded for me to do, but choice do I have when Xemnas does all of those bull-crap attacks and powers?
Xemnas: *just testing sora* also Xemnas: *uses his best fucking weapons* Xemnas are you trying to kill sora or test him? I can't tell cause you're using your BEST weapon Interdiction instead of your default weapon Malice!
And for the secret one in BBS, it was Young Xehanort. He uses the Ethereal Blades but later through time he uses his Keyblade. Example: Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. He can still use his Ethereal Blades
Fun fact: xemnas in kh1 is weak to gravity and it’s stuns him for like 5 seconds Secondary fun fact: in kh1 zantetsuken does gravity damage Third fun fact: you get zantetsuken from Kurt Zisa Fun fact #4: Kurt Zisa is a pushover Fun fact five: xemnas won’t use his command menu attack if you have a summon active
While this fight kinda breaks the continuity (moreso Sora's intelligence), gotta admit, introducing Xemnas as this guy who is not even using 10% of his power against THE TRIO, that's fucking insane and only someone as nuts as Nomura could do it exclusively in final mix, mention it in KH2, and not completely piss everyone off.
It actually doesn’t break the continuity, rather it explains why some things in later games (primarily KH2) are the way they are. It was through this fight where Xemnas got Sora’s data so Vexen could make Xion, and it’s also why Xaldin goes after Beast in Kingdom Hearts 2 because Beast can be here during this fight. It also, more obviously, explains why Xemnas knows Sora in later games.
I only just now got to do this fight with the steam release of KH, it’s bittersweet, I used to try and find ways to like find a crack in the chapel walls somewhere, like I was so desperate for more KH I was hoping they’d hidden him somewhere lol
To be fair, his whole boss battle was a reminder that we used to get owned by this guy, right down to his ability to RETRY THE FIGHT!!! I kid you not, that had to be a "retry" reference if ever i saw one, that was the only part of his first fight that stood out.
Critical Mode: Give Me strength **Tinkerbell noises** ¡Heal! ¡Spore! ¡Spore! ¡Spore! Ha Hurgh This is it Lets GO Spore! Spore! ¡Wind! Ergghh Doourgh Heal! Doourgh **Low HP sound** Heal! Here! Fire! Spore! Spore! **Low HP sound** Oohhhh **dies
I know i have to reach level 80 to have some possibility to win, but today i was too curious to see how hard this boss is... it was a mistake. I had level 66 and seeing my health bar reduced to half after one hit literally terrorized me. I felt like i really got that hit...
I’m not sure if you’re joking. But this is Xemnas from the present time at the point of time. He did remember this since he did mention this encounter to Roxas at the dark margin
Nah,this is the same Xemnas you fight in KH2 as he's still alive by the time of KH1,possibly this combat takes place after recruiting Roxas. Once you reach 3D,you fight against a Time Travel'd Xemnas because he's already dead by that point.
I waited 15 fucking years to have my chance at this bastard in English.... he was.. a let down. Level 80 and I curbed stomped him. Still a savage fight tho, worth it
what if the ethereal bladesWERE his keyblade? and it only transforms into clock handles when he time travels? Example: only when he's stuck with the reality shift clock does he actually pull out his blades. i'm thinking his clock WAS the keyblade powering the time machine!
Unrelated but this song feels like you're in foggy terrain, and unknown to you there's a massive, hungry spider lurking in the fog; inching closer..and closer to you.
Really? I lived through that and wasn't actually aware it had suction after the initial one. I just went to her side and stood there. Not sure if glitch or not... will have to play again.
nope it was YX. he can use both ethernal blades and a keyblade. (both of which had the same color) plus when he resets time, he summons clones who have teh same ethernal blades. the fact they have the same theme is a dead giveaway
Rosabella Melantha 😑 What? Xemnas was never in BBS... OOOOOH MYSTERIOUS FIGURE? Yeah that’s Young Xehanort not Xemnas... Big difference... Young Xehanort stops time and Xemnas has Final form...
