PookMandarin speaking of re:coded, re: coded was the first kh game I played(I still have the cartridge) and I thought it was a remake of the original Kingdom Hearts, but I was wrong when I Played it
Definitely. I think Square needs to really step up their game when it comes to customer support instead of leaving people in the dark and what sometimes feels like completely ignoring the community that try to bring issues to their attention. Having nothing fixed in the port (especially the final Xemnas bug, probably the most irritating out of all of them since it is completely unavoidable for every single player of the port) but having new bugs (save bugs, bar drains being wonky in certain situations) is unacceptable and at the very least should be fixed if they're going to fix any of them. Let's just hope Square understands that communication is really key in modern game development and having easy access to player feedback should be something they focus on to have a quality product, especially for new Kingdom Hearts fans.
I just don't understand how a company doesn't test their own fucking game! That's like writing code for your company and you don't even test it. You just assume it works because you spent so much time writing it. So idiotic!
I would also like a 30fps option (I'd never use it, but options are ALWAYS good), but I want to say that the intent of framerate is not to make the game "look pretty" it's to make the game play better. Obviously in this case there are unfortunate issues, but I just wanted to clear that up. Framerate isn't a graphical change, it's a gameplay fluidity change.
To note, there is a bug for DDDHD involving making spirits using recipes that have a chance of producing a different spirit, where the secondary spirit use the primary spirit's limit to determine how many ranks by which it's boosted on creation. This means many secondary chance spirits cannot be made as * rank using these recipes and, in some cases, you can attempt to make a spirit above * rank, when the primary spirit has a lower base rank than the secondary (Ryu Dragon/Lord Kyroo most notably), which will crash the game. This has neither been acknowledged nor fixed, which is disheartening for the prospects of these issues being patched.
Interesting you mention this, that does explain the Ryu Dragon/Lord Kyroo crash, I didn't know the reason until reading this, but does also make sense why I wasn't able to star rank alternate Dream Eater Recipes
configchan I JUST came across this today and it really disheartened me tbh. I worked so hard to get the materials for the ryu dragon ALL day and then when I finally got the chance, nothing. Granted, since it's crashing it's safe to assume it was gonna give me a lord kyroo anyway, but still.
I had the same issue, especially since I wanted to make a Star Ranked Lord Kyroo. I was still able to make him, but had to use a guaranteed recipe of his, and required more Brilliant Fantasies to accomplish (And thus more annoying farming). It's very annoying to have to work around it and hope Square Enix will do something about these issues soon.
2 days ago I was making my Electricorn dream eater so I can get the Support Abilty for my Abilty Ace trophy. When it was about to create my dream, it gave me the blue error, I was forced to go back and played again and did the exact same thing and it gave me the same error. I was getting pissed off. So this time I gave it different items and gave it less items for the star rank. And the error didn't show that time.
Thanks for this, Biz. Square seriously needs to see this. Maybe if people adopt a "no patch = no buy" attitude then Square will be forced to realize that patching it means more money in their pockets and would be more likely to actually patch it. Unfortunately, I don't see much of the KH fanbase adopting that attitude toward this.
There's a GameFAQs topic about it as well. It honestly is the best way to fix these issues if they don't want to dig deep into the code to make KH2 work in 60fps. It would be really cool to play a smoother 2FM, but I'm taking the 30fps if it's stable.
+Samuel Ripardo Not everyone is buying for the 60fps though... Some want it just for the faster load times, some for the trophies, some who have never owned a PlayStation before PS4 and want to try them. 60 is better, and fixing the bugs would be great, but its not necessarily that simple. For some (maybe even many) a 30 fps mode would be great. The save bug and the other non-frame-glitches... they are a whole other beast.
+Teh Vendon This is what we call 'subjective' rather than 'objective' "60 fps > 30 fps" = objective "even with bugs" = subjective Having the option pleases people on both sides. No one is asking for them to remove the 60 fps totally.
I hope they don't just tack on a 30 fps version and not fix the bugs. That is probably the last thing I'd want them to do. The main reason I bought the game is to play in 60 fps.
why not add the toggle 30fps option? It doesn't remove the ability to play in 60fps, and you can very easily choose to ignore it. Say they put it on the pre-game menu, where you choose what game you wanna play, like the screen size setting? Easily ignorable, and doesn't stop you from enjoying the game in 60fps.
+Teh Vendon Because that would only promote laziness from the developer. They're the ones who have all the necessary tools and skill to make an accurate port of the game running at 60fps, so for the developer to just say "Play a downgraded version if you want to play the game properly" is unprofessional and a disservice. There is no excuse as to why they didn't fix the issues present in this port, and we as consumers deserve a working copy of all the games advertised running at 60fps. Don't settle for less or you will be screwed over by the execs of the company.
People were like "but only speedrunners are bothered by this" meanwhile people with functioning brain cells were laughing in final boss reaction commands and Vexens data gathering before they patched it.
it's funny how people think speedrunning experiences can be ignored when the same problems found there can be found in casual play. I just beat data vexen (first time) on PS3 and I'm certain that if I didn't enjoy the fight because of anti-sora spawning near the start of the fight, I'll hate the fight with all my mind, heart, body and soul if that demon spawn shows up at the very beginning
Thanks for the upload, Biz, been looking forward to this since your Pastebin link. Ever since I started following you on Twitch, you've mostly gotten me out of the usual "blind KH fanboy-ism." Regrettably, I've already paid off my preorder and probably won't cancel because it's been a while since I've gotten to play these games due to giving my PS3 with both HD collections to my nephew. Square will definitely be hearing from me soon should these problems persist for us Americans. Thanks for all the hard work you've done.
Yeah, even though there are problems in this collection, I'm still going to pick it up because I missed playing these games, especially KH2. All I have is 2.8 and playing nothing but DDD is getting boring.
I know, I'm a bit of a fanboy myself. But Square should really step up their game. I wanted a pretty much flawless port of KH2 in 60FPS, and if I'm honest I even had hope for a short time. But I knew something like this would be coming...
Square has made a habit where they dont test their games i swear. Two things i know that need fixing of KH2 on ps4 is the revenge value and some desperation movies. For example: After making Luxord retalitate (revenge value) by hitting him with a explosion he pauses at 60fps in comparison to 30fps. Bosses like Larxene who does their desperation move like her does lightning move with her hands is extremely fast at 60fps in comparison to 30fps.
Bizkit047 Yes, sadly im writing this message thru my phone and not computer so i cant send the link but its the first video when you type for "KH2 60fps" skip to 1:45:00 for the Luxord boss fight.
Well if you listen to the video, you'll see I say that they likely do not get credit for that. It's the power of the PS4 data install + faster console that did that
I can see that. Although the fact it has a data install I can appreciate I guess. I'm not tech savvy nor do I claim to know much but I never understood why the PS3 versions didn't have that option. I know some PS3 games offered it to fix such problems like that but the PS3 ports didn't and they had no digital version either. Did they ever state why?
As someone who played KH2 back in the day on PS2, hearing that these kinds of problems exist just... really makes me sad. I'm sure they knew that turning it up to 60 fps would cause a lot of problems, even if the team doing the port consists of none of the original game developers.
Rape victims experience “triggers”. Angry gamers/people are just that: angry. To say that someone is “triggered” if they respond angrily to something just means that you don’t understand what you’re doing with words. If you do know how to use the word properly and still do so, well.. you’re simply a nightmare of a person and I feel sorry for your kids
Honestly, the way Square has been handling ports lately is making me consider getting a Swap Magic to play the original versions of these games. Honestly, the last straw for me is FF12 Zodiac Age. If that gets fucked, it just means I'm going to have to dust off the old PS2 and search Amazon and Play Asia.
Just get the swap magic. They still sell the original KH1FM and KH2FM in play-asia too so youre set with that. I did that and have not regretted it one bit.
I consider myself a fanboy of KH and SE, yet I can't understand how anyone can give you flack for calling out bugs and problems with ports... of ports. It's ridiculous that this game still has problems.
Yeah, they're this lazy because people buy their half-baked products, and then fanboys try to justify every shortcoming. When you buy these trash ports, you are telling Square-Enix they can get away with this.
god damn it osaka. Friendly reminder that anyone outside of Japan is basically never the userbase. You'll have to pray long and hard for Osaka to open their ears, and then you'll have to pray long and hard for them to stop being talentless hacks for five seconds.
Great video. While 60fps and better load times sound awesome, I'm definitely not purchasing this port until these problems are fixed. It's amazing how disconnected the developers are from the community with these games. I thought that they might have changed because of the patches for 0.2, but they never cease to disappoint.
Doctor Paco Well I imagine 0.2 had more of a dedicated team due to it being a portion of KH3 and also our first look at the mechanics of that game. The port team probably wasn't nearly as large or involved.
+Brian MacLeod Very true. But there are standards that have to be met. If the porting team was so barebones that they couldn't even attempt to address the known bugs, then that is just a testament to how half-assed the effort is.
I can't say I'm surprised. This port as a whole was a cashgrab to get extra money by saying "here's 1.5 and 2.5 HD with all their nice shit, in *60fps* gaiz, its totes way better now!" So it's not shocking that making it 60fps without recoding anything breaks shit.
I've yet to actually be a 2.5 at all. AT this point, I'm considering just getting over my laziness and paranoia of fucking up and just figure out a hacking way to get my PS2 to play Japanese games and then just buy KH2FM.
in English KH1, is anyone else having issues with saving? it's taking me around 40 seconds to a full minute and sometimes over JUST to save.I hope I'm not the only one.
Having only played the ps4 version everytime I heard you say that loadtimes were terrible in 2.5 I was just like "what does he mean?" and then I saw this clip lmao.
The problem from the start was that Squeenix handed off these ports to a few no name Osaka Team employees (1.5 on PS3 was ported by around 2 people, I believe), while all the main programmers are working on KH3. This team has no experience with the KH1/2 engine and it shows.
Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX support, The PS4 error CE-34878-0 is one of the most common errors and deals with crashed games and applications. The error CE-34878-0 (sometimes called CE-36329-3) happens due to corrupt data or system software, but it's not hard to fix. The PlayStation 4 error CE-34878-0 fix is relatively simple, read on for the full details. PlayStation 4 error CE-34878-0 (or CE-36329-3) - what it is: The PS4 error CE-34878-0 is displayed when a game or system application crashes. When the system crashes, all unsaved progress is usually lost. The error tends to happen to PS4 games that are poorly optimized and/or have bugs and glitches. The error code can also be displayed as CE-36329-3 on some systems. PS4 error CE-34878-0 fix: The PlayStation 4 error CE-34878-0 can usually be fixed without having to re-install the PS4 system software. Here's what you need to do to fix the error: - Restart the system and try again. Make sure the latest game patches and PS4 system software has been installed. - If the error persists, re-install the game (re-download if its a downloadable title), and try again. - If the error still persists, you'll have to re-install the PS4 system software. Go to Settings, then to Initialization, and choose Initialize PS4. *Be sure to back up your data before doing this. As always with games, pay attention to patches and announcements from the developer, as this might give a hint whether it's the game that's at fault, or if something went wrong with your PlayStation 4 console. In the vast majority of cases, re-installing the game will fix this issue. If the suggestions provided above do not resolve the issue, please contact Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) for further assistance, as CE-34878-0 (CE-36329-3) is a PSN-generated error code.
I wonder if the team behind the ports has been brought up at all? Not saying it isn't Square's fault in general, but I remember the video Dean made about his KH3 worries and that the Osaka team did the PS3 ports and I wonder if they were behind this port as well?
The team who made these ports, the PS3 ports, and 2.8 are all the same team doing KH3, Osaka. But they patched 0.2, so it seems like they would care if KH3 had some issues.
You think that's bad. In my 2.8 Dream Drop Distance game, I was creating one of my dream eaters fusing items for electricorn. Then when it was about to fuse. It gave me the blue error message. So I did it again and same thing happened. So I gave it less items and there was no error anymore. That was weird.
I was super excited about these games finally coming to the PS4, but to hear it has so many glaring problems makes me think twice about pre-ordering or purchasing without there being a sale of some sort.
Re:CoM still has the glitch where in Atlantica if you sometimes fight one of those big balloon heartless the screen goes blue and you cant do anything forcing you to close the game. Happened in the ps3 version as well i remember (not sure about the ps2 version).
WOW! 60FPS makes it look amazing! What's annoying is that PS3 games can be patched but the PS3 version has not been patched. I agree, the load times are lickly from Sony. It's kind of bad that saving can crash the game, hopefully that gets fixed soon if not already.
It's interesting that through emulation, the PS3 version actually doesn't have the loading issues. In fact, with some tweaks you can reliably get 60fps. Definitely says something when an open source emulator can get more out of the game than the actually official console and devs apparently could.
A toast to square, where they make a game that you thought would have improvements from the game it is remastering (which is already a remaster of a second port) have some of the worst bugs and coding the KH series has to offer
If you don't use the 60fps hack then I suppose, though emu has input delay and dropped inputs a lot, but otherwise if you use a proper controller it's not too bad
60 FPS and faster load times that were probably unintentional is definitely not a good trade-off for fucking physics problems, save crashing, and the return of the infamous bugs from the PS3 version. I can't expect Square to actually be able to or even want to fix all of these issues so unfortunately I have to hope for a compromise. A compromise where they at least fix the save crashing cause that is not okay at all, saving's supposed to keep your progress, not potentially cause you to lose it.
Yeah, the amount of crashes I've gotten on the PS4 version is ridiculous, it's pretty dumb how many crashes there are. I've played ~30 hours of it and it's crashed 4 times, one of which was when trying to return to the title screen.
I see that some people posted this video on twitter with the #FixKingdomHearts. I hope that Square will notice it if more people continue posting the video and more issues.
simbadg13 prepare yourself soldier, ones you get the games. it'll be a long and grousoom 3 month of nothing but terrible story telling, bullshit ass glitches/crashes and a shit fuck of patches
We were "promised" for PS3 1.5 for those improvements you speak of. Sora/Riku's DDD model in Kh1fm were "promised" and never showed. And that was four years ago!
Big fan Biz, just want to say, I agree with all of these points and really hope Square listen in. I bought the JP version on the 9th and have done a full level 1 playthrough (all worlds) and a second platinum playthrough and experienced no crashes. I am however using the standard PS4. I wonder if the crashes are tied to the console rather than the game? The same deal with FFXV. I experienced no crashes in my run through the game, while I saw many with a PS4 Pro crash. I had to come up with a weird Peter Pan strat to take down Data Vexen in the end - what a nightmare!
Damn after watching this video I am really glad I own the ps3 versions XD these problems will be a pain in the ass for casual kh players & just annoying for kh pro's
im gonna get KH1.5+2.5 when it comes out over here in America and ive been playing KH2 since i was like 7 or 8 and im 16 now and im gonna miss that gun tower in Timeless River R.I.P Gun Tower
Guys square enix released a patch it fixed a bit like gauges are fixed now and some damages due to 60fps and apparently other defects in the collection have been fixed
first off thank you for explaining the problems to me while I listen/watch your randomizer runs for kh. ur videos make me really happy and stuff. ignore the bottom part this was just me putting my true thoughts on how I feel of kh1.5+2.5 on ps4 these bugs are gonna Probably bug me when I get it for English if it doesn't get patched. I can't get a refund due to buying digitally, and this is my first time playing 2.5 in English (I bought Japanese version of 2.5 for ps3 cause I didn't want to wait (I can play all of 2 in Japanese but not BBS :c) but the collection speaks to me as this (kingdom hearts) is my child hood basically. got the first game when it came out when I was 5, then got 2 right after I got out of surgery which caused me to be blind, and I Probably wasted 50 dollars for this collection, but I hope it gets fixed.
I just got softlocked in 1.5 when fighting anti-sora. The screen turned pitch black and the boss was nowhere to be found. I used a summon which reset the camera, but he was gone. Locking on again made the screen black again. Using genie, locking in showed an extremely pixelated version of his face, so I believe the camera was extremely zoomed in on anti-sora. I had to reset and lost 2 worlds of progress. I haven't seen anyone else get this glitch, so I figured I would ask here. Has anyone found a workaround for this? Does anyone know why it happens?
I either have a vid of it or a vod on Twitch where I intentially triggered it back then. Don't remember how it happens, but it is something you can try to trigger, and shouldn't happen often.
did you already tweeted them your video? this is a really good video that shows what problems this game has. hope that they really going to fix these problems.
I swear honest to god that randomly not doing the RC in Timeless River as well as "Grab" in the 1k Heartless battle correctly happened in KH2 Original EU.
RC in timeless should work fine in PS2/PS3 version. 1k Heartless RC grab fails in all versions if you are either too far from the enemy or do it too early
I'm so happy I convinced myself not to get this, I was waiting for you to make a video that would inform us about the issues, if there were any, but apparently play testing is just far too much to ask for. It baffles me, I mean, playing final Xemnas even 5 times would IMMEDIATELY show you that something is wrong. I almost understand them missing things like the loss of invincibility frames on blocking, but the sound, or the Data Vexen fight? C'mon, even the most casual player can point these things out. ESPECIALLY the save crashing.
Is the Blizzaga finisher still function as restrained Revenge? Know multiple hitting Data Axel doesn't work, but hoping that's hitting the wall triggering a retreat, and not Blizzaga being entirely broken.
Quick question even though I already commented, does the save crashing ONLY exist in 2.5?... or could it happen in 1.5 or BBS?... I don't see it mentioned in the pastebin that these also save crash so I figured I'd ask. BBS was my ultimate favorite Kingdom Hearts game, and if that's mostly left unchanged (except the tornadoes) I might pick it up JUST to play that at 60 FPS
I'm curious when you say physics tied to frame rate what exactly you mean, sure many animation issues can be caused by simple playing animations at higher speeds then they were created at and values can exists for implied force at each part of an animation for attacks etc for when they come into contact with enemies but out side of the games code having trouble calculating where a player if supposed to be it it can't work out what frame Sora is on in an animation (I'd guess as supping the frame rate to 60 is causing some issues where key animation frames are out of sync with their values tied to them) I'm trying to understand in what was they are tied into physics.. for reference I'm an experienced game dev but obviousness know knowledge of the KH game engine or code specifically... I was recently forwarded this video who asked for my take on this vs it being a general animation issue and I'm trying to find the base for this being a physics based problem
