The way this movie handled Ceaser’s legacy is so well done it warms my heart, and the close up shots almost made me tear. Watch it on cinemas it’s worth it!!
As someone who's been excited for this film, yet nervous if it turned out bad, I feel relieved and even more excited than ever to see this film when I have the chance.
More if it i see the more disappointing it is .The whole eagle thing is corny. Mae being a major part is annoying. The pacing and style seems more like a disney/marvel movie. I like the caesar thing and the fallen world they are rising out of. Find it cool how og caesar’s legacy will be overshadowed be new caesar by being forming the basis of ape society
@@MarcusWright-uc7zs That ape accent does throw you off huh😂, jokes aside I do love how the actors have done these intonations, keeps the apes from sounding too human eventhough they are getting more eloquent.
Just got out of the theater. Really happy to see that this franchise can live past the Caesar Trilogy. Noah is a great new protagonist and Proximus Caesar is WILD.
I’ve bought tickets with all of my friends we r taking up a whole row tomorrow, I just gotta commend your channel tho for finally having a place to discuss all things apes
Really glad to hear your thoughts on this. I hope the film does well because it seems like a great start to potentially another great trilogy in the franchise. I cannot wait to see this!
Was great..parts fehlt rushed in my opinion but only becaus i went in expecting a Standalone like Wes Promised. He failed as a director ther but if you see it as Act 1 of a Trilogie it makes sense. The core of the Trilogie is Noa Mae and Noas GF. The Last scene kinda proofs tgat with all 3 doing sonething in the movie and the last Shootingstar beeing mae and Noah locking up showing ther simbolicly linked. Like ther destined to be in each others lufe for whats next
Seeing the movie and releasing the review for it in the same day??? Josh, ur review is the only review we need!!! We thank you for the dedication to the PotA franchise, it is so beautiful to see you so invested in it, can't wait for ur spoiler review to hear your thoughts on it. Seeing it tomorrow night also, I'll wake up shouting "WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY"
Saw it last night. The opening for this movie is so great. The ending could've been better and I felt from trailers there would be a big battle between protagonist and antagonist but it wasn't but there's still room to improve on future sequels.
@moysey89 What Ending? It honestly felt more like a set up for a sequel then an Ending. If that is the case I would like to see more of the gaps in the history filled. I like lore, and I want more lore.
Saw the film opening day. I enjoyed it a lot. I think I partially over-hyped myself. I was just a little let down but that wasn't because the film was low quality. I just was thinking it would be a larger-scale story and the story ended up being smaller with less stakes. Which is fine, Rise had relatively small stakes. My main issue was Proximus. He was fantastic in all of his scenes ... it was just that he didn't have enough scenes.
Man I wish Proximus Caesar stayed alive, I feel like his arc would have lead to a combination of the distorted version of Caesar's teachings AND him gaining enough human knowledge that he starts using advanced war tactics more like our civilization, which would have reinforced that all powerful kingdom feeling Great vid!
@creations2548 I don't really agree because it was shown that the power of his kingdom destroyed the culture of many tribes of apes and absorbed them into his. His character's interesting as hell but definitely has been shown to put ambition over his own kind as seen in the failed attempt to open the door
I can't wait to watch this, I'm going to watch it this coming Saturday and man other franchises need to take notes from this reboot because they keep knocking it out of the park, awesome spoiler free reveiew.
I watched the movie about 2 hours ago, and I absolutely agree with everything said in this video. I feel like my biggest complaint is how misleading the trailers were about Proximus's plotline. Either way, that final sequence was phenomenal and so were Raka and Proximus lol. Truly what a wonderful day
1st time visit to this channel. I've seen EVERY single PoTA movie in theatre. From 8 to 64 years old, these have been my most anticipated movies as news of their making have been released. Great video.
You made me feel really anxious about it. And very happy that there's a twist (probably) at the end. Can't wait to discuss it after your spoiler review. Greetings from Athens, Greece.
Excited to see it in a few hours! One question, which previous entry in the franchise do you think Kingdom is most reminiscent of (in terms of vibe and plot), or is this something entirely new for you?
I'm sorry I only discovered this channel yesterday. I've subscribed and look forward to watching many videos here. The POTA series is so good - after the original, Conquest (Directors Cut) is my favorite.
Visuals are Amazing.. The themes are powerful… 9/10. If i have any complaints, it’s just a bit too long(i would watch it a 2nd time in theatres if it was a bit shorter), and to me.. i kind of confused Suna and his mom at times they looked too similar in the dark, and I would’ve liked them to incorporate some kind of Moral Goodness or Caesar wisdom in Noah’s final moments, and to also honor Raka… like for Noah to not just understand the truth about the Past, but to also take from Caesar’s Moral Compass to further his own Character growth. …like when May was choking out Trevathan.. i would’ve like for Noah to have maybe said something to show that Raka had an impact with his teachings… “Show Humans Compassion”, “Apes and Humans once lived side by side”.. some kind of moral growth. But other than that.. i did Love Noah, his own moments of self-reflection.. thinking he was a failure.. he managing to save everyone and master the bird technique which was the coolest scene, just Amaazing. Maybe in the next films, he will show more… Phenomenal Movie👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Loved the movie. Definitely felt like a part 1, but that’s fine. Loved the world building, the characters, and the slower pace (which I know lots didn’t like). Some complained about the ending, but I liked it. Left lots of questions. As a part 1 should… I had one gripe with the movie. SPOILERS: Maybe a nitpick, but it was kinda obvious Raka didn’t die. And I felt that Proximus’s “death” was ambiguous. Strong possibility they are both still alive. While I’d be happy if they both live. I won’t be thrilled if we get two fake out deaths I guess? Or I could totally be wrong and they could be gone
Watched it today in 4DX I wanted more out of proximus ! And the final act could have been longer and better ! But THE CGI made up for it lol 😂 , it looked so real with the lighting/ sun hitting the apes , it was just amazing !
Just saw the movie. I LOVED IT!!! Noah was great. Raka was also great. The baby doll saying "mama" like the original Planet of the Apes gave me goosebumps. Can't wait for the next one.
I’m so excited to see this wasn’t hyped to see it a few months back until I saw the trailer in theaters and it looked awesome in fact I was so excited I even drew some of the characters for this new movie
Saw it last night. Really enjoyed it. Hope we get more. I was surprised how much it connected with the previous 3 films, I thought maybe they wouldn't so much.
Am a bit divided about that third act and really do agree about Proximus' end that really did impact that. Did enjoy a lot of it and that very last conversation was the true standout.
A good film that’s for sure. On par with Rise in its own right. I can understand why it’s called Kingdom, there’s 3 kingdoms that we know of for 3 leads (Proximus, Mae and Noa). There’s 1 or 2 scenes in the film that do lead down the ‘Astronaut’ line. It’s a film that gets you thinking for the future. The ending for me is incredibly well done. Mae is a sacrificial character with martyr like motives. Wants to trust but is dedicated to her mission. The last 3 minutes just opens it up for the next one and what will possibly happen. I think Proximus served his purpose, an ape coloniser by mind but was shown his hand by apes with a tribal mind. His philosophy was that of Caesar that we know, however, Noa and his Clan/Tribe truly embodied Caesars law without them even knowing it by the time for Proximus’s end. Noa is sort of a new Caesar in his own way, he has gone through the ‘Rise’ and the next film will be his ‘Dawn’ or ‘War’. So to speak. Overall, a solid film that still has that iconic ‘Planet of The Apes’ DNA but with a new spirit. Very Horus like I must admit, Eagles, Death/Rebirths. Solid.
Sucks I gotta wait till Sunday. Looking forward to your spoiler review. I bet you'll see it 2 more times till then. I know this is definitely a multiple theater experience for me.
My problem home with this Apes is that while Rise, Dawn and War are all concerned about fleshing out the world, their is also intense attention paid to characters and telling a compelling story. I think each of those movies can be watched separate from eachothers and not steuggle, while Kingdom is so concerned with setting up another trilogy and avenues to explore, it doesn’t focus enough in the story in front of them. I notice a lot of the major compliments of the characters or events we see in this movie are how much potential they have for future movies which I think says something. The others made you excited for a sequel because what you just saw was so compelling. Kingdom makes you feel that you are missing something and that’s why you want the sequel as I did when the credits rolled
I saw this movie last night. Very intriguing premise with the involvement of Maia how her story is interwined with Noah but the ending speaks to a sequal? The action sequencing are intense and violent and well paced, but overall a thumbs up 🎉
Proximus ceaser character was a bit underdeveloped. More depth could’ve been added to him, rather than just some deranged aggrandizing bafoon. I feel like this movie was only a setup for another trilogy. Not giving much, but also not giving too little. It wasn’t horrible but rise of the planet of the apes had much more substance.
I am vey excited to see this movie! I’m seeing this Thursday at Regal Cinemas. Does anyone know if the collectible popcorn buckets and cup will be available to purchase on Thursday?
I don't really understand why many people seem to take issue with the character of Mae. She is a very nuanced character that sometimes takes radical action to do the things that seem right to her beliefs (won't go into details because of spoilers). This ambiguity is much more appealing to me than a pure "good" character. I just don't get why likeability is so important for people, I think it should be about how the particular character fits into the world of the movie and how it interacts with the other characters.
That's exactly why I'm so interested in her. She isn't just another human who grows a bond with apes and is clearly going to evolve as a character, and because I'm not sure which direction she'll end up going it really makes her unique. I just would like to get to know her as an actual person more.
I agree. For me personally, one of the main issues with the reboot series was that the human characters always seemed boring and one-dimensional. That's why I think her character is such a breath of fresh air. In fact, I'd go as far as saying she's the most interesting human character since Dr. Hasslein.
I agree with everything you said, her character was very nuanced. Also, many people did not realized it, i noticed the facial expression the character Mae had, when she seen feral humans being deduced to animal like conditions, it was like a sadness vibe she gave. Her character was more a less a advocate of the human race, or what humanity once was! My rant.
It was a really good movie. Honestly it's only downside is that it has to stand up to the previous trilogy, and they did alright. Can't say I'm as attached to these new characters. That's going to take some time, but overall I think we're off to a great start.
I have my own theory about Mae . Remember in original film Series . They had the mutated under dwellars who lived in ruins of new York city and worshiped a neuclear bomb . I Think that She in reality is an under dwellar . Somehow the samian flu have a different effect on Them . They dont become mute . But instead they have mutated and keep their Intelligence . So with Mae . They under dwellars Will introduced into the ape saga . Thats just what I Think .
I recently watched the Planet of the Apes film and I found your channel! The only films I haven’t watched yet are Battle and the 2001 film and I plan to watch them within the next few days. Then my grandpa and I are gonna watch Kingdom next Friday, the 17th! I’m very exited to see the new film and I’ve loved the previous films that I’ve watched!
What happened to Rocco this is heartbreaking not that many people were talking about the opening scene with the Apes Barry Caesar and all standing Unison together I love that
Hey man wonderful review, I also loved the movie. Do you have the image of the orange poster you used in the end? I looked it up and didnt really find any good quality images. It is astonishing.
i waited for a final shot of Proximus in the water, but they deliberately avoided that. So, what we have here is a Darth Vader situation. I think he will definitely come back.
Now I am really excited about seeing it this weekend. I got my tickets for El Capitan and just holding my breath to see it. I am acting the same intensity as I feel before a Star Wars movie.
It MIGHT be weird and unprecedented but tbh a movie thats pretty much DEVOID of the cliche "second act low point" entirely, is a bit refreshing imho. Like maybe 2 seconds of his mom and anaya giving up but they are just SO close and connected that they shake it off for a second, bc at the end of the day, wavering is realistic, even if a bit repetitive from a movie perspective. Seeing anaya back up Noa and Suna was just super wholesome and exactly what noa needed after losing Raka. (I have a feeling i spelled a few names wrong here lmao)
Honestly, that may be part of what threw me off with the pacing on first viewing, but agreed! It has a different kind of flow and works well without that moment.
@Ape-Nation didn't feel forced at all either. From the very beginning Araya and Suna told Noa they'd wait WITH him for no other reason than solidarity and loyalty. And for him to follow them THAT far just to bring them back home, not some quest for revenge, I am SO happy they're able to see that in Noa and back him up. I only with Proximus wasn't killed off I'd love a villain built up over a few movies instead of the secular ones we usually get, part of why koba is the best villain so far, not to say any at all have been bad. I even like Dodge Landon quite a bit tbh. I suppose Proximus COULD come back, but if it's not done right, which I do have confidence they could do it right, it would come off as forced, but I'll die on the hill of playing devils advocate for this series until the day I actually die on a hill.
Just back from seeing it. It was... Good! Not great, just good. It's the type of movie where, because plot, things happen. Will have to watch it again to see if it gets better on repeat viewing, but after the great Caesar trilogy, I'm a little disappointed, but there is no way it could have matched the last three films IMO. But thank god it is no Tim Burton's POTA.
I loved it for beginning to end Josh . It was incredible experience. I Enjoyed the opening and seeing may for first time ,very interesting character and it had Spirit of the original movie . The hunt scene was brilliant and trochs to Jerry's goldswith to original movie . Rockra was great character. RROXIMA was fantastic villain and moment we see the human doll was fantastic and end was good . May didn’t know if humans and Apes could live in peace. Thats was so right . Great score and wes Ball did great job Looking foward seeing what they do next All the josh 👍
How much money do you think kingdom of the planet of the apes will make i think it will make more than rise and war but not dawn I think it will make like 500 million maybe 600
Watched the film, it's real good, and exactly what I wanna see in Planet of The Apes. It focused on the character we have, and honestly, I feel for lots of the characters.
Just got done watching it, and I have to say that I thought it was awesome. Definitely not where I thought this movie was going, and I get why some people don’t like the ending, but I’m excited to see where this franchise goes! Also, though not necessary, stay through the credits for… something.
Yesterday I read the planet of men writing by Pierre Boulle, where humans retake the world for menkind under Taylor guide. Hopefully, a few ideas will be taken from that scripts.
@@Ape-Nation then what was the tunnel that swallowed light? I might have heard wrong, but Noa and Mae might have seen a black hole when looking through the telescope.
Just watched the movie!! I really want a sequel, but I wonder if Noa’s plotline is over…to me it feels like we could move on from him (even though I loved his character) but if he continued as the lead I’d be okay with it too. My biggest concern is: isn’t it a bit too early for the astronauts? Part of the fun is that they crashland on earth without knowing the context of what happened, and also that ape society is well developed from the tribal stages of civilization. I think we could use how time works differently in space to make as so they only arrive in a thousand years or so- that would be ideal for me
I think Proximus veing interested in Roman history was kind of a wasted detail. What would he think about Ceaser initially being a popular human figure before the apes' Ceaser? Also, maybe he isnt dead? Sure he got mauled and fell all that way but fictional characters have survived worse, he could come back scarred and vengeful
I loved the previous trilogy and was incredibly disappointed by this dull follow up. The characters didn’t hold my interest. The plot was too simplistic. The world created in this film was too narrowly focused. And Mae’s origin was underwhelming and disconcerting from the earlier trilogy. Most importantly I struggled to care about this story and its characters. The original trilogy did such a phenomenal job making the viewer feel invested from start to finish. This film lacked all of that. 4/10.
Hi, Glad you enjoyed it i never doubted you would. I love Noa and Raka in the trailers and i haven’t seen it yet. I don’t think it opens in the UK till the 10th may. I can’t wait to see it like the others in the big screen. May 10th will be a wonderful day. Thankyou for this video and everything you’ve done for this film and the franchise in general. Take care. 😘🏴 #ApesTogetherStrong ❤️ #TeamNoa&Raka ❤️ #CaesarNeverForgotten❤️💔😭 ❤️
My complaint with the newer apes movies is every villain gets killed off by the end of the film like a superhero movie, I just kinda wish they would go in the direction of Star Wars or Infinity Saga where’s there a consistent build over a 5 year time frame. Every one of the new movies just ends in a similar way where the bad guy is defeated just been done before.
The acting is fine with what the actor's were given. But I HATE this story. 300 years later, and I'm supposed to believe that a bunker of underground humans is still around. That the electronics wouldn't long ago have degraded, when my PC won't last 10 years. That the satellites would survive 300 years of EM radiation and orbits degrading. That the people running the PC's would have had enough info passed them to them over 300 years to be able to uplink to the satellites. It looks to me like Mae sacrificed herself, since it doesn't appear she'll be allowed back in the bunker. That story needed to be fleshed out more. I was disappointed.
May Spoiler Alert... I was waiting all movie for them to reveal that Noa is a decent of Caesar. I was so happy when they didn't. I like that he was just an average member of his tribe who raised to the occasion.
