Most people in Detroit might not like Mike Valenti but I want to tell you what I do the guy knows what he's talking about and he's right most of the time Valente tells you like it is and if you don't like it oh well turn the radio off the reason why we are where we are now is that we finally have a coach that believes in his players gets on the field with them and gets dirty his players believe in him too thank you coach Campbell for being the one guy that I realized the potential of this team and what they could be these are not the same old lions at least not yet these are different lions these days you have to earn every Victory you get against us it only took 30 years but we're on top and hopefully we'll stay there for a while if you come into the lions den you better be prepared for a fight
You know, Sheila Hamp really deserves so much credit for this organization's turnaround! Her decisions to hire Spielman as an Advisor; who then helped her target Holmes and Campbell, are the main reasons we're here! Nobody thought this is where we'd be 3 years ago. But here we are! Now go win a playoff game boys!!! And prove that the Lions are for real!
Seeing them lose to the cowboys in 2014 still hurts to this day that defense was the best we put on the field in a long time an to lose the way we did on a flag that was picked up 😢
@@HonoluluBluNSilver that 2014 had some Dawgs on the defense could you imagine the team we have now with 2014 defense I think we win a Superbowl or very close
Imagine getting rid of Slay, Diggs and Tate, and then staying the head coach the next year. When they announced Quinntricia would return for another year AND they would be expected to be playoff contenders?? I wanted to vomit, revolt and laugh my ass off!!! That year was almost as tough as the 0-16 season. Those were the dark years. Sheila, Holmes and Campbell have this team finally paddling forward! Between the locker room morale and even fan morale, we are just flying high! Thank you Sheila for recognizing what needed to be done!
Absolutely I do compare it to 0-16 it really felt worse in a lot of ways. For me, it felt like we were headed right back there. The hope was gone. I watched pretty much every snap, including 0-16, but I watched maybe 3 games in 2020. The team was lifeless and didn't want to be there. Very dark days. Thank God they fired them. 2021 even though they only won 3 games, you could see they were on to something. The energy was unbelievable, and they fought like hell. Now, here we are playing for an NFC Championship!!!
@@jamiejones3253 exactly that! That’s a better way to explain it. NO HOPE. I had zero faith in that pencil punk to remotely right the ship. It was hard to watch and you knew we had no chance at the post season.
For a person who’s first QB was Joey Harrington this was very cool and informative.. I thought I was the only one who felt like I felt and I’m only 31. Can’t wait for this playoff game!
Not only are the lions doing well, both the Browns and the Lions have 10+ wins in the same season for the first time since 1953, the same year the Korean war ended
If there's any justice in the world, the Lions and Browns both go deep in the Playoffs! I'm not sure about the Lions, but besides bad luck (two losses to Denver), the Browns have been saddled with bad ownership and management, making a complete circus of the draft and coaching decisions.
I could have told you that before the Lions got him. I've been a Patriots fan since 94 and I knew Quin and Patricia were going to make the Lions worse. Belichicks whole tree is an environmental disaster. Our defense under Patricia sucked. They never got pressure and made every opposing QB look like a pro bowler. What saved us was Brady and his ability to get points in the 2 minute drill and then on the opening drive of the second half orchestrating long sustained scoring drives. It's why we always deferred kickoffs. It caused us to double points on our opponents while resting our own defense, tiring out the opponents defense and keeping the opposing offense off the field for a long time which disrupted their rhythm. Brady was the dynasty. You saw with your own eyes what Belichicks philosophy and coaching looks like without Brady. A disaster.
Exactly! Patricia had no respect for the Lions as an organization! No respect for his job! No respect for the players! And ABSOLUTELY no respect for the fans or the press!!! He was arrogant and self serving and power hungry!! Him and Quinn both!!! I was SO happy in mid 2020 when Sheila sent his sorry ass packing!!!
Man the years of pain and heartbreak in this video are beyond description... for those of us who have suffered through it all... you know. I began watching with my (die-hard) father back in 93 and didn't really care about the team back then, so only pretended to celebrate their NFC Central Division title win. Another 3 years though and I was hooked, and have been ever since. This feeling right now is the best EVER!!
Jimmy Schwartz! What a G. That Lions team was fun to watch. Thanks to him fixing my Browns defense too. Cheers to you Detroit! Couldnt be happier for you
I remember sitting in front of my tv watching the playoff game against Dallas and when they announced the foul was overturned, my heart sunk. Back then, even with Stafford, you knew that we always lost the game in the second half. Me and my brothers used to make jokes about, “the Lions would be 14-2 if every game ended at the second quarter”. These Lions though, what Dan Campbell has embodied as, “Grit”. These Lions have grit. They play hard and physical. They can beat you in about 5 different ways every play. Hope has returned to Detroit sports and after years of dissatisfaction, hope has returned to the Detroit Lions.
Bob Quinn firing Caldwell and going straight to Matt Patricia is like a kid kicking someone off of their playground team because their best friend wants to play😂
Been a Bengals & Lions fan since Greg Landry was QB for Detroit. It was a kick in the head when Eddie Murray missed that FG that would've upset Joe Montana & the Niners. It was so frustrating that Barry never got to play in a Super Bowl. 30 years of playoff futility. It was sweet to see Cincinnati finally win in the post-season. And it's gonna be sweet to see the Lions do the same. Tremendous job building this team. Would be sweet to see Detroit _finally_ make it to the Big One.
I love the Lions and I am not even from there, and never been there. Their road reminds me a lot of the Bengals, and their journey. I live 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati and follow the Bengals. I am a Oregon Duck fan always since 99, but love the NFL. The lions and what Dan Campbell have done is incredible and I think the nation just loves them. I have Goff on my fantasy football team so I have a vested interest following them. Great job Lions!
I was born in 93 and it’s still shocking to feel the way I feel, knowing what we’ve endured since I was a sparkle in my dad’s eye. We’re so used to something bad happening with this team, it almost feels unreal. But hey, this is what was destined to be. Congratulations to my Cartier Cats
Born in 94 we been thru it all 😅 even that 08 year . Knowing that they weren't going to make the playoffs just wanting them to win a game at least lol ended up going 0-16 . But we came a long way!!!
Excellent video showing the fall to the rise of the 2023. i have been a fan of this organization since 1976, when i was 6 yrs old. Seen the good, the bad, and the thoughts of grandeur. This is the only team I can say I believe in to get that next check mark of a playoff victory. Superbowl if they can but damn just a play off victory and a chance to go to the NFC championship again. I was at the Silverdome when Green Bays Sterling Sharp caught that wide open pass from Farve, nothing against them it was an excellent play and execution, but that shit hurt hard. LETS GO LIONS! Dan Campbell being on that 0-16 team he knows the hurt of this franchise, when he was brought in as HC I was like cool an ex-player coach that was here in the bad days he knows this city and how it needs this. I would like to think Im right in that.
Been a fan since BARRY got drafted in 89, been to every home game since, I'm over joyed to see this happen and I'm 35 years old, unfortunately my Dad has passed away and he didn't get to see this history with me, this means a lot to me that he can see it in heaven and in my heart as well
As a Bills fan I can certainly relate to the prolonged misery you guys endured, but it only makes this so much sweeter. Enjoy every second of having one of the top teams. I'm very happy for the Lions fans. You deserve a winner and now you got one
Winning the NFC North Division means so much to us all! After having the Division in our grasp 4 times in 10 years and 3 times, we failed to get the job done. The 4th time is the charm!!! Now we're reaching for the stars and going for it all!!! GO LIONS ROARRRRR!!!!!!
OH GOD, why why why did you post this? I was a season ticket holder from 1998- 2012. Born in 1968, I've been a fan since I was 10 years old! When I turned 30 I said "They will win a Super Bowl before I'm 50..... I'M FIFTY-FIVE NOW! Being a LIONS fan is an endurance test. I just need them to win a SB before I'm too old to enjoy it. Good season this year though.
@@user-wi5vm1mf2e Look it up if you don't believe me. 1970 - lost divisional (Cowboys) 1982 - lost 1st round (Redskins) 1983 - lost divisional (49ers) 1991 - won divisional (Cowboys), lost NFC Championship (Redskins) 1993 - lost wild card (Packers) 1994 - lost wild card (Packers) 1995 - lost wild card (Eagles) 1997 - lost wild card (Bucs) 1999 - lost wild card (Redskins) 2011 - lost wildcard (Saints) 2014 - lost wild card (Cowboys) 2016 - lost wild card (Seahawks) 2023 - ???
@@jeffwinter1651 Yeah, the Lions are the gift that just keep on giving...to the rest of the NFL that is. The blown call (can't really call it a blown call, they called it right initially, just BLATANT cheating was all) gifted Dallas, the payback call against them gifted Green Bay, so the cheating refs in our game ultimately benefited our hated rivals also...
I’m 26 and from Cali, I Was born into being a Lions fan , I wore a Sanders jersey on my first day of kindergarten . It’s been a long time coming can’t wait for this playoff game baby !!!
Congrats Lions fans from a lifelong Packers fan. You guys deserve it and your players earned the division. We all admire Coach Campbell. Hope we see you in the postseason.
I was born on January 24th, 1996. I never grew up watching the Barry Sanders era so I can’t really say much about that era other then what I read and watched. The Matt Millen era from 2001-2008, I can’t really say anything much about that era either because my family and I were living in the Middle East at the time. Well technically, I moved back here in the summer of 07 so I technically was here for that 7-9 season in 07 and the 0-16 season in 2008, but I wasn’t really into football at that time. I didn’t really start watching until Matt Staffords rookie year, so the only era’s I really watched were the Stafford era when we had Jim Schwartz/Martin Mayhew, Jim Caldwell/Martin Mayhew and Bob Quinn, and Bob Quinn/Matt Patricia and then this era with Brad Holmes/Dan Campbell. Jim Schwartz, I cut him some slack because that dude had to help rebuild the team from the 0-16 Matt Millen shit show of 2001-2008. Martin Mayhew during Jim Schwartz coaching tenure had to rebuild that team. The roster really didn’t materialize until Jim Caldwell became the head coach. I could probably argue that the lions weren’t patient with Schwartz at all but that’s here nor there. Then you get to Caldwell in which he’s a lions coach for 4 seasons (2014-2017) in which 2 of them we went into the playoffs. 2014: 11-5 and lose to in the Wild card playoffs to the cowboys in a very gut wrenching heart-breaking game. Oh yeah, let me give you a stat on this season. While I’m writing this comment, I looked up the list of seasons for Detroit of when was the last time we won more then 10 games on Wikipedia. Do you know when that was folks. That was in 1991 when we won the division and before that 1962. 2015: 7-9: Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand get fired here in the middle of that season, which is just beyond me. I understand the poor start but you have to have patience here. 2016: 9-7 and lose in the wild card playoffs to the Seahawks. Before that season began, they hired Bob Quinn. 2017: 9-7: Bob Quinn after season said that 9-7 is not good enough but yet instead of adding to the pieces onto the foundation that Martin Mayhew set he instead precedes to tear down the roster while hiring a coach in Matt Patricia that couldn’t get along with the players at all. He and Matt Patricia basically tore down all of the hard work that Jim Schwartz, Jim Caldwell, and Martin Mayhew did. Well we can complain all day but it’s time for a new chapter. Let’s go lions.
God this is a review of my childhood basically. Born in ‘91 in Flint. Been a fan all my life. Grew up watching this team fall flat in SOL fashion every time. So incredibly proud of what this squad has accomplished.
So of everything I've learned from this team's history it is mostly the Owners, Front Office, and higher ups that have held Detroit from success, that looks to have shifted in the MCDC era and let us hope this group keeps it together and communicates with each other. The Detroit Lions Tragedy is a cautionary tale of people in power not listening to their people.
Even though the Lions may have fallen short in the NFC Championship game against the 49ers, the 2023 season is just the beginning of more success to come forward for them. They are going to have something to build off of from this season.
This was really cool, thank you!! This season has been insane, love that it's not just the fans who care anymore but the actual staff who matter. Tbh tho I think it's crazy you didn't slow it down in the end and take another 20 mins going through the sick moments from last year and this year lol opportunity missed!
Trading Quandre Diggs and Darius slay to Seattle/Philly for peanuts because they called Patricia disgusting ass out was one of the most Egotistical fireable offenses of all time smh
Great video. Adding the exorcism of the Bobby Lane curse, Shelia Hamp’s comment of “I believe in this leadership.” , and the spoiler game over GB to end Roger’s career at GB would be awesome.
Lifelong lions fan here after winning the 2024 divisional round: amazing video that details what went wrong and the frustration, emotion of a lions fan over the past 30 years. Dan. Sheila and Brad have brought this team back!!
Nothing good and worthwhile comes easy. But with patience and perseverance, outcomes are always favorable. Glad I got to witness this in my lifetime. Congratulations. Go Lions!! 🦁
Great video man. Took me through all the feelings living through and remembering all of it. Really like the clip of Kitna talking about the 2007 season because I always was puzzled why the wheels fell off. Man Marinelli was such a bad hire. Should have just turned the keys over to Martz the next season.
I'm a third of the way through this video and so far it's great. I thought I'd make it through 5 min and call it quits, I'm impressed. 30 year fan, go Lions! We gonna take care Dallas tomorrow!
Been a fan since 1996, I fell in love watching Barry run at the tender age of 7 or 8yrs old..been through it all, I thoroughly enjoy seeing all we've been through to get where we are now. The struggle is what will make a SB even sweeter now..something about failing and failing and failing, but when you finally succeed...oh boy.
The beautiful part of this video is that the Lions won a playoff game and could very well make a run for a Super Bowl. The sad news is we’re in the same exact pit with the Pistons right now.
I remember how hyped I was initially listening to MCDCs opening speech and despite some of the crazy things he said, he looked like he was both serious about it and fully believed he would make this team different. Looking back at the speech now hits even harder because we've come to love that fire in him as well as Brad Holmes. They attacked our teams greatest weakness for years which was realizing integrity without 'grit' is just intey which isn't a word. I don't know how the rest of the playoffs will go this postseason for us, but he's given me hope that we have left a culture riddled with despair and quick fixes in the past. Having optimism for the future of this franchise is such an incredible gift to Lions fans. Love these guys, one Pride baby.
The way this season has gone i will be able to finally buy a Jersey if we win a home playoff game this year. have not had any lions swag since 1972 when I was 4 years old. Thank you Shelia,Brad and Dan getting rid of my 50 year headache
As a Eagles fan I might fuck around and shed a tear my damn self if you win it all....alot of us are pullin for you guys over here big time bro, alot of our fans are really harsh but we're not all like that and with that said I pray that you guys get to experience that feeling bro, you got one HELL of a coach and a damn good roster....GO FUCKIN GET IT DETROIT!!!!....GO GET IT!!!!!!
Love the video! A true statement of where the Lions have come over the past 30 years to where they are now. Keep that O Line healthy, and tighten up on Defense, and look out. We got the pieces to make this interesting folks. Easier said than done I know. I’m still drinkin the blue Kool aid! GO LIONS!
This video reminded me that it’s always darkest before the dawn. The Quinntricia era specifically made me want to scream and rip my hair out, but I couldn’t be happier with where we are now!
As a lifelong Bills fan - all I can say is I know what y'all have been going through. I'm pulling for y'all too. The NFL is a better place when Detroit is relevant. Good luck and I hope you guys give 'em hell.
As a Bears fan, I'm happy for the lions. I was born in 2003 and had to wait 20 years of my life to see the lions win the NFC North for the first time in 30 years.
I remember the WC loss to the Cowboys. I was working at a Coney Island with my coworkers and it was slow enough to watch the game since we had TVs there. I'm celebrating and losing my mind in the first half and the few customers there were laughing and enjoying the game and me celebrating with my equally excited coworker. She loved football too! Only to be destroyed by such a soul crushing loss! But thats in the rear view mirror now. I realized we needed that to happen in order to get an amazing GM with all of that college scouting talent and an equally amazing HC! Let's kick some Cowgirl ass tmrw to make up for that loss from years ago! LFG Lions!!
Amon-Ra don’t know if you read comments but thank you for putting a your podcast on RU-vid. I personally enjoy watching you play for Detroit and hopefully you’ll be a Lion your entire career. The Lions are finally fun to watch after being the laughing stock of the NFL for so many years. Best of luck the rest of this season and beyond
I feel like people get on Calvin Johnson and Berry Sanders for retiring early but that was like 10-20 years before the idea of "mental health" was even a thing. Happy to see both of them around now when the Lions are at the peak of their game. They are legends.
I have never been a Lions fan, but I’m thrilled to see them get this far. They need to cross not playing in the Super Bowl off their list this season. 👍🏻
Good stuff here with the history of the Lions franchise over the last 30 years. The older game footage, news bytes, radio cuts gives sone pretty good insight into them. I gotta be honest, I never bought into the hype of the Lions over this past off-season. For good reason, evidenced by this video, the Lions are always gonns Lion. Well, ya know what? This season they didn't. Thanks to the head coach and this group of players they showed that they actually had a set and were going to change the culture, by winning. Congratulations Lions fans!
Fans loved Stafford because of the fight within him. During the Atlanta game, Caldwell just accepted it. You say it wouldn’t have done anything, but maybe the refs rethink things. Maybe the Lions don’t always get screwed.
Once I saw Dan Campbell speech I knew, right then he was right head coach. I'm so proud of my lions. Somethin tellin me we will be playing in the SB 58 even doe it rigged somethin tellin me lions will play best football this comin up Sunday go lions
Be me who fell in love with the team after the 0-16 team in 2008-09. It will hurt if we don't make it to the Super Bowl but on the bright side, we can finally celebrate the title.
Being born in 1989, I was too young to really remember all these heartbreaking moments throughout Barry's tenure in the 90s, but I knew 1999 was the last playoff appearance. The Harrington years, the Matt Millen Era, the Quintricia Era, all of it was horrible to live through. But we survived, for the first time in my life I can be proud to be a Lions fan. I am so happy that Sheila took over and isn't like her parents, she actually cares about this team, she hired the right people to run the show, she's put in the work to ensure they got what they need to succeed, and it's finally paying off. It keeps bringing tears to my eyes every time I see the celebration and how much it means to some of our guys like Taylor Decker, to have been involved with this franchise for so long and suffer through it with us, to finally be part of something as special as this. Ford Field will be rocking in a few weeks when we host our first playoff game there, I'm excited to see it and how we build on it next year. To get this far so fast during a rebuild is crazy, I have so much respect for Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell for what they've accomplished already.
