With the dissonance between the segments like "are you afraid of the dark" versus the genuinely wholesome affection of "you world" it feels like Kinito himself really does just want to be a good friend, a maybe somewhat shady but overall well-intentioned virtual assistant. The game does a great job of showing that Kinito really does love you, which pulls at my heartstrings in a way few games ever have.
I like how they included the Godot logo in the minigame where you build stuff. Really cute way to include what engine you used without a splashscreen, that is assuming this was made in Godot.
"This is one of those things that's just, like, timeless, because it's just so satisfying in the way it feels- you saw that bullcrap right there, right? Like, you saw how rigged this thing is?" Oh yeah, that's the authentic experience right there.
Oh, I heard this one was kind of middling, by other people...But it was actually nice to see a playthrough in this style. It's not bad, a bit different maybe. Got some neat parts for sure. Tries a little too hard at some points, but it is literally a haunted/evil computer game type thing so you know what you're getting into, suspension of disbelief is all good and fun. Thanks for the entertainment.
Not really his usual thing, but yeah I feel like he'd do a pretty fun playthrough of it if he's willing to put in the time. ~~of course I'm also just always up to watch a Hypnospace playthrough, regardless of the player~~
Specifically the nostalgia and general vibes of it, luckily it doesn't try to pull too much 'meta' lol Excited for the sequel. Granny cream's hot butter ice cream 2
Now that I've thought about it a bit, it would actually be really up his alley. He's said a few times he likes seeing how things ended up the way they are today, and everything in that game is backed up by its own fake history.
Maybe privacy problems would come with this but on the "can you draw me a picture of the person stan d i n g b e h i n d y o u" moment, it should 100% open your webcam
the game is alr supposed to do that at a different moment (when it asks why you're recording if you're using obs), librarian just didn't have his webcam connected. I agree that'd be cool tho
The soundtrack in this game truly pushes the horror aspect. This nostalgic soundtrack of web-based games like Animal Jam and Poptropica, (though I know this is based on games older than that, it's just what it reminds me of). The cheerful tunes are well crafted so when it fades out you notice! Also the text to speech for Kinito truly is the scariest thing about the game, it has a voice.
*Immediately starts thinking of Vargskelethor Joel's Windows Destruction videos* 😅 But ok seriously this is such a cool indie horror game, I know there's been a lot of these type of horror games popping up lately but I never had so much of a nostalgia wave as with this one, especially with it actually styled like a old Windows Computer set up and among other things that happened during this video which are reminiscent to old Computers back then.😅 Also at 25:26-25:36- Librarian you gave me another nostalgia wave, I used to play that game too lol. This game and video really made my early 2000s childhood memories start coming back up both in a nostalgic good way and another way, which now makes me feel old ngl (i remember having a few Desktop pets but it was Catz5 and Dogz5/Petz5, Felix the Cat and the McDonald's Faires and Dragons...god im old). Great video, btw Librarian, pls keep up with the amazing work, thanks you, you are awesome👍 (Edit-typo and remembering more Desktop Pets)
There's lots of games in the style with The haunted computer But nothing quite like this and not usually executed so well. How he seamlessly nails that overly friendly text to speech voice and then instantly the tone changes to something psychopathic and then right back to light hearted the whip lashe is what is so chilling I guess that's why the style works so much the idea that something so sinister lies under such an innocent facade.
36:44 That's that one underground that got ported into a Minecraft map. Yeah. I know that broken polygonal fire extinguisher. That's caused by photogrammetry, yeah.
I'll always love you Librarian! You will always be my favourite. Thanks for making amazing videos I can watch when I get home from school every day!! I wish you the best, and I always will.
1:52:16 the key to this can be seen is when you were in the "world that was made for you" with the fountain and something was moving towards you. The name of the window kept changing and said "the fountain is the key"
Hey! Big fan of the series but I wanted to suggest “welcome to the game”. I think it perfectly fits the vibe and your play style. Only down side I can think of is how punishing it is
If Librarian ever do a WttG video, for the sake of their (or their editors) sanity they better do the second one... Too much things in the first game that would need to be censored for RU-vid. At least they're only connected mechanically and not story wise, so there's no loss of lore by skipping the first.
this has become the video i turn on most nights when im going to sleep or when im taking a nap, ill spend ages to look for something else but in the end ill go back to this
rly rly enjoyed your playthrough, your reactions to the scares made me laugh sometimes LOL, but i loved and very much related to the way you said "thats so cool" while laughing in fear. it's so much my initial reaction when i first discovered this game. god, it genuinely is scary, but its also SOOO COOL. i'm glad it seems like u enjoyed it too :] special game fr
Buddy Simulator would make a good companion to this. Their priorities contrast interestingly. Buddy Simulator 1987 bases itself more in really early computers, rather then the Internet, but there are a ton of similarities, such that I would be shocked if it was not a major inspiration for KinitoPet. I wouldn't spoil anything about the journey you'd have with your Buddy, but I will say it is not only creepy and comfy, but emotional and interesting.
considering how much you like Meta horror games like this, I'd suggest Doki Doki Lit. Club. However, I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it fits the "cozy/comfy/creepy" vibe rather well. It also might require multiple long playthroughs to fully experience it. Really loved this video tho! You have a very unique style of commentary that I love, keep up the good spooks Librarian ^^!
_It's Been So Long_ goes well with the true ending. I also played Afton's demise from the movie over Kinito's deletion. XD He will come back. He always does.
OH MY GOD I REMEMBER JUMPSTART, and I remember the exact place you're talking about, it was for that Halloween area where you could become a witch/wizard and have a broom to fly around. (albeit the broom was for the premium subscription)
I am reminded of Ultra Hal so much from this. Ultra Hal is a chat bot of sorts. nothing too creepy but you give it a tts voice and it can respond to most questions in a believable enough way. it even had a loneliness mode where after a set amount of time it might randomly push itself to the front of the screen looking to chat or to ask an attention getting question. alas.... the last time i updated it, Ultra Hal had a "credits" system. a sort of limited uses before you have to pay to get more uses out of it. I miss hearing it proudly greet me by my first name introduce itself then announce the current date and time in the TTS voice robosoft four it was fun hearing KinitoPET using the male whisper voice. reminded me of the anime serial experiments lain that uses that signature tts voice with each episode.
If there was anything I didn't expect Chris to do-well, at this point, my Librarian's surprised me enough that I should probably stop guessing. It's impossible for me to have watched it already, but here's hoping you had a good time with Kinito!
The game with the rainforest was called Amazon Trail. It was inspired by Oregon Trail, the wild west exploration/survival game with a covered wagon, just this time in a jungle with a paddle boat. I remember crashing the boat a bunch, then the game would crash and corrupt the save. Probably just me doing dumb stuff as a kid, as I killed the original install of Win95 by manually deleting a program intead of clicking uninstall. But both mine (an old 90s PC from my neighbor's garage) and my parents original 90s PC are gone now. I wish I still had them being a vintage tech nerd, but in 2008 they were just junk. Now they are rather rare, especially the cartridge based pentiums like those were. The amount of stuff the community can do with old PCs is crazy, like running old games, weird OS's, nostalgic internet sites, exc. You just can't replicate the noisy, smelly, CRT and mechanical drive clunkyness of old PCs with a VM. I do still have my dad's old 8mm tape camera, just have to get it working...
