My guess is that they had something like 400k-500k kilometers on them and had probably failed inspection. A car like that is worth null on the market. The petrol they filled them with was probably worth more.
Then that's probably a well looked after and pretty unique car. Most of them don't last beyond 500k km. It's usually age that claims them instead of distance. I had a Volvo S70 -99 that had 240k on it and it was still in overall good shape, but the gearbox had been raped by the previous owner and the CV-joints needed to be replaced. The brake master cylinder was also worn out. It was too much time and money to spend on such an old car so, I just sold it instead. Now I drive a Mazda Miata -11 during the summer and a Ford Ka -11 during the winter :)

You think? Even under Ford? I have a Volvo with an PSA Diesel, the whole chassis is a Ford Focus II. Only body, interieur, safety features and can-bus system is from Volvo.
David Radtke Ford bought Volvo only to use their technologies to improve Ford-Group cars (Aston Martin, Jaguar). They used the 2.5T (although retuned by Volvo) in the Focus RS, as an example. Or they used Volvo key fobs to unlock Aston Martins and Jaguars :). They also made them struggle, with PSA diesels (PSA was on an « unreliable » period of time) but other than that it was pretty good. I think you have an S40 or a V50. It’s a great car. Only the diesel was French and the French were making terrible diesels at some point. In petrol versions especially in T5 it was a good car.

+Sanyey And it didn't quite take the beatings the Astra did take. I'm not trying to run the Volvo down or praise the Astra to the moon or anything for y'all other folks. I only mean to say I agree with Sanyey because this 'comparison' was far from acceptable, let alone apples to apples. Volvos are built more sturdily and I believe are better quality as well than Opels nowadays, but please keep in mind that how a car is used is also hugely important. An Opel that is only used for suburban trips will last much longer than a Volvo that's doing a WRC course every day(hypothetical example).

you have right my friend. ...but i speak about people in poor country like Albania or Bulgaria. ..this cars there cost about 1000€ -1500€ .so it's very easy to keep this cars in good condition with a simple service about 200€.whatever i like it u enjoy the "race".😉😉😉
