Stunning. I've never done this task but I regularly use impact adhesive. I expect there's quite a bit of skill in keeping the wrong parts of carpet from bonding itself as you offer it up.
Hi Mike, I have found yur videos very useful and informative. I was hoping you ight be able to answer a question for me. Do you remove the rubber window seal and run the carpet under it or just run up to the window rubber? Thanks again :-)
Hi Ivan, good question! Once the windows are in its not really possible to take off the knock-on rubber trim neatly as the outside edge contacts the bonding agent. So I tend to trim the carpet a few mm large around the window opening and then tuck the excess behind the knock-on trim using an angled trim tool. To be honest it is a time consuming and fiddly job so in an ideal world you would cut your window holes, then line the van, apply knock on trim over carpeted metal and finally bond windows on. However in real life that means your van is off the road and under cover for a few days so it's not always possible.
@@mikemccandless6745 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I think that is the route I will go. Thanks gaain and have a great xmas to all you guys at Kiravans UK
Hi Mike, great video as always, might i suggest a montage video of insulating and carpeting right from a bare van to completion just to show what a difference it can make to the visual impact of the van, using kiravan products of course! all the best
Hi mike, I wondered when carpeting the whole side with the windows in do you add adhesive to the whole section of carpet? If so does the glue mark the windows etc before you can remove it? Thanks so much in advance.
Hi, yes I tend to spray most of the carpet as it's hard to judge exactly where to spray to with regards to window edges. As long as you only spray up to the rubber window trim on the actual van metal you won't have any problems with carpet sticking to glass. This stuff only bonds where both sprayed surfaces meet.
Hi I'm going to buy some of this stretch carpet from you I'm just wondering what you put on the wheel arches underneath the stretch carpet I tried using like bubble wrap foil but it was really noisy when you brush your hand over it Crinkles
Hi James, ideally you want something pretty solid to stick the lining carpet to. If you want to insulate then I'd recommend a closed cell foam. Kiravans sell a 7mm thick one, which will help keep the warmth in and cut down on road noise. In this video I had put a layer of sound deadening mat on the wheel arch before carpeting, but to be honest there is not much point as it is really only effective on larger panels. Lots of folks just carpet straight onto the metal wheelarch for the tidiest results.
I never trim the surrounding metalwork on the sliding door. I either screw on a carpeted panel or a DoorStore below the window and leave it like that. I have seen some people trim the whole door but it's pretty fiddly and I think it would compromise the rubber weather seal around the door when shut.
@kiravans Hey I've got a van that's already been done but I've decided to freshen it up and replace the carpet lining. I've removed the carpet but do I need to remove all the old contact adhesive and what's the best way to go about it.
Hi, good question! I've never done that before but my instinct is that as long as the surface you are sticking onto is largely stable (ie. not covered in fluff from old carpet) you should be ok. Your best bet is to try it out on a small area and test how hard it is to rip it off again. I'm guessing removing the old glue is a pain of a job! Let us know how you get on :)
