This society constantly gives mixed messages to Black women. When you’re a teenager, I was told my book is my boyfriend. Now, as an adult, they now want to know where is my husband & kids. Now they want to blame us for men not wanting to marry us when we are the only ones consistently taking care of the community. I’m done being the Black mule & taking care of everyone. Free at last, free at last, thank god almighty I’m free at last!

But when the average person says it, people say “You’re just bitter because nobody ever wanted to marry you” 😑🙃

Preach Yanie! Young women need to be taught how to vet out men and date. I know I wasn't. My mom just said I couldn't date until I finished high school. And when you are single you have to be comfortable with yourself because you are not guaranteed the man you want.

I'm not a Christian (anymore), but I appreciate him speaking this to the Christian community. Last time I checked, marriage was never a prerequisite to get into heaven.

I broke up with my old best friend who was so desperate for a man that she went picking through the dumpster and married a serial cheater. She grew up in a toxic church. She sought this man out and he was cheating before and after the marriage. She told me that “we have to forgive people” and kept saying “God told me this was my husband”. She’s popular in her city and the breadwinner. She’s being used. I booked it lol because I did not want to see or hear about the dysfunctional even though I still did smh.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but marriage/partnership has only slightly mild appeal to me at best. I've never understood why singlehood is so demonized. Unless you're a twin...you were born alone, you're gonna die alone. So in-between time is what? 🤷‍♂️ My little theory is most people are spiritually single...and weren't meant to be paired up(at least not for life), and because we have so many trying to masquerade as husbands and wives, here we go creating our own karmic loops and lessons. Anyway...

I got married for the first time at age 43 and can relate to the intense pressure society puts on women to get married and have kids by a certain age. I would take it a step further and say society in general weaponizes marriage against women and it’s not just done in the church. For years everywhere I went people would ask when was I going to get married and literally minutes after saying I do to my husband then the annoying “ when are you having a baby?” questions started coming from everyone. I think this needs to change but sadly us women to this to ourselves, especially women from the older generation who feel you are a failure in life without a man and children. As women, the next time you get the urge to ask someone when she’s getting married, resist and reflect on how this type of question makes you feel. Ashanti was cyber bullied about being single for so long and I’m sure she was also pressured by those within her inner circle and now look what’s happening with Nelly already. Operating out of desperation will not end well

Love the message. Tony Gaskins would fall out if he heard this. The way he went at Ace Metaphor made me highly uneasy to say the least and to think he feels he upholds Christianity amazed me that day.

I have 2 coworkers(women) that are in their 50s and have no kids or husbands. It definitely happens youre right not everyone is guaranteed a husband or kids. Its a very tough pill to swallow for those who want it. When i asked if my coworker had kids ( we were on the topic. She asked about mine) she said no and its not something shes proud of made me sad for her but she has a home and lots of friends. I pray God be close to the singles..

I have the world of health issues, one is mental. I used to dream about having kids and i was trying to get on board with marriage, but honestly i no longer want kids because i don't want them to inherit my mental issues nor do i want to be a slave to no man. Its very overwhelming living alone, now try adding husband and a kids. That's over kill. Ill do what is best for me.

I'm gonna be honest. What he said was true but he is NOT the messenger we need. I don't believe that he's saying this because he truly believes this is true. I think he's saying this to pander to black women because we are in the dawn of religious figures being exposed and their livelihood/reputations are being effected. I may be incorrect but I've never seen him speak on women's issues or positively of sexuality acceptance. I think he's gearing up for if and when something comes out about him he will have the support of black women. Ever notice usually when someone randomly starts to defend or talk about their love for black women or even women in general that they've never expressed before something salacious or morally questionable comes out about them. I'm not saying don't listen to the message. I'm saying be wary of the reason for the messenger.

I agree with Kirk. In years of growing up in church, I've noticed and experience married folks treating single women as if they're a disease, as if they're after their husbands. I've experienced this with one individual who was in a relationship at the time. She said something along the lines that I was making her insecure😐😐. Clearly, it was a *her* problem just like the married females thinking single women and single moms were the 'Jeezebels' in church. Then they were of course meetings for the singles on why there were more females than males in the church and it didn't feel all that exciting. As an introvert, I always felt out of place in those events. There were times where my mother would push one family friend on me to date (mind you, I went on 2 dates with him in high school. He did like me, but I felt more friendship than anything). I really hate that! It was co-dependent & it's giving Dowton Abbey arranged marriage. After 2 failed 'relationships' with a gaslighter & a ghoster, I'm more focused on myself only.

I know that Kirk is speaking regarding about church and Christianity, but this also relevant with muslims too. I'm so sick and tired of seeing hijabis who think that they need to get marry to complete a "deen". I come from a muslim family, before someone says something sneaky... Then these muslims girls get marry and ended up divorcing back and forth. I agree with Kirk, you should work on your own spirtuality , and being in a marriage shouldn't be a recommendation to be a godly-fearing person.

Yes he's right but he's saying this because his audience is 99% black women. Probably most of whom aren't married, are losing/have lost hope of ever finding a suitable mate, or they're in bad marriages. If he keeps preaching that lack of marriage is a failure, he loses that crowd who won't want to keep coming back to be reminded that they're "failures". By saying this, he gains many many more followers. He's just reading the room. Preachers are experts on manipulation.

Although I would love to believe that Kirk has had an awakening, the timing and the choice of interviewer is questionable. I wonder if he is only saying this now because there are some things going on in his marriage. "We crucify people when these same marriages fail." I feel like he is about to get exposed and he is doing pre-damage control. Regardless, I guess it's good that the message is getting out there.

Maybe I'm wrong. I've been looking at things for a long time. Yes marriage is used right and wrong. Yawl hear me out. All things is about balance. We always talk about the male aspect of things and forget about the female. 🤔 Interesting point of view can be debated either way. On one side, I can see the possibility clearly in manipulative gatherings. As, religion always tries to weaponize God’s Words because it’s the only substance that makes a formidable weapon. But also, maybe we’d be less likely to be manipulated if we sought God more than marriage, money, etc. The instructions are to be not deceived and to not be ignorant of the enemy’s devices. It's a womans choice regardless. Me personally i don't regret my son at all yes motherhood is hard but I love my son ladies if you don't want to have kids it's ok me as a woman understand the birthing pain hurts and I understand why a lot of women don't want to have kids either way I understand.
