What a magnificent interview Maya. I began following Kirsten a month prior to the start of GGR2022. She truly impresses me with her humble and generous spirit. Her perseverance and dedication to sailing and the environment are extraordinary. She cares for her Cape George Minnehaha as if she were family. And her caring concern for others, in particular Tapio’s rescue. To forego and risk her standing in the race for the safety of another was incredible. Her heartfelt concerns for Guy and other colleagues was so heartfelt, and then she was able to comeback and persevere onwards. She is a woman, a person no other can compare to. I was so thrilled for her to place first overall from such a community of excellent, experienced sailors. She brings hope to other sailors, young women in particular. To see how Minnehaha handled the conditions was such a compliment to how Kirsten had restored her. To know that Minnehaha began here locally on the peninsula of the Puget Sound was an even sweeter win. Thanks for sharing your interview Maya. As usual, superb questions, background music and editing. ⚓️ Through your storytelling and like Kirsten, you have inspired and reminded all of us that dreams are important and always possible. ❤

That was a completely captivating documentary, Maya. Kirsten is a truly admirable human being and you presented her journey, it’s challenges and it’s beauty, her onboard video and the organiser’s video, at a pace that simply drew me along without noticing time passing. The only time that I actually noticed the music accompanying it, on my first viewing, was during the segment when she was departing South Africa with Table Mountain in the background and the aft end of the boom in shot with Whales, Dolphins and Seals around the boat. The mood of sadness that she was describing and the music, just a few bars, moved me to a sense of profound sadness myself, it caught me completely off guard. That was when I fully realised just how absolutely special your ability to create a narrative in this medium is. I’ve often noted, and said as much in comments on your regular vlogs, that you have a talent for sharing a story and sewing it together beautifully with video and music but this was something subtly different. It’s the middle of the night here, I should be getting my head down but we’ve had some pretty foul weather through here today, the fields are soaked so I’ll not be out working much tomorrow, I’ve just made a pot of coffee and I’m about to settle back down and watch it all again, just to take more notice of the details I know I must have missed the first time. That has never, in my 60+ years of life, been something I’ve felt compelled to do before. As the French might say, “Chapeau.” 😎👍🍻

@@SailingMagicCarpet Luck? No, I don’t think so at all. You have an unusual talent, many have proved to be quite good at presenting quite well in this medium. Very, very few have developed their skills to the extent that they not only rival but succeed in surpassing the quality of mainstream media professionals and you few do it solo. That is a notable achievement and more than deserving of recognition. Thanks again, hope Magic Carpet’s coming together without too many new headaches and that Aladino’s ear is on the up and up Cheers, R.

Thank you for such a well done video. Very first class ans professional. I truly enjoyed the way the editing connected all the pieces of Kirsten's amazing journey/adventure that I could not get via the GGR site. I have to say everyone that started this race, whether they finished or not are hero's in my book. So many amazing personalities and stories connected to each of the sailors and their boats. I wish that Kirsten and Minniehaha could be one forever. It seems like Captain and boat were made for each other.

I met Kirsten 2 times when she was preparing for the GGR. Actually I knew the previous owner of her boat Minnehaha, that was Dr Mike Bottomly, now deceased. I helped her take physical possession of her boat in Fortune , Newfoundland; and that was quite a struggle for her because of Covid 19 travel restrictions in place back then The 2nd time I met Kirsten was in Prince Edward Island where she had just completed a huge refit of that boat. Both my wife and I were very impressed with Kirsten; she was humble, down to earth, intelligent and incredibly committed to overcome any obstacles to get to the start line of the GGR. Believe me, her battle to get to the start line was just as impressive as her performance in the actual race. The community in PEI adopted Kirsten and helped her in many many ways, really because they were inspired by her drive and determination. What a champion. Can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
