Pandit Ghulam Qadir should not go unnoticed in the history of ghazal. His compositional structure stands apart from the rest by being steeped in the traditional yet giving the ghazal a modern and sublime touch. How he maintained the balance is out of this world. Need more research on those gems.
It was always gratifying to listen to the great Mehdi Hassan Saab while he was performing live ! I have one and only regret in my life ! Oh, what a great misfortune it was ! I didn't see him performing live during his lifetime ! Perhaps, I will have to carry forward this regret to my next birth, if there be any ! Let it be informed that I have been an ardent fan and avid listener of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab for the last 40 years since 1978 when I first came to know him through his divine creations and will remain so till I breathe ! Borahji, it was my fortune to see his first show in Albert Hall London in 1976 when I was living in Holland. In 1981, I came to live in London. Then came across the man who was his promoter who was whispering his ghazal and I just asked if was his fan. Then onwards, we just met him endlessly when in UK following him to all his concerts and private shows. That was my greatest fortune as a listener not a singer. Enjoyed every second of his company. I have listened to this ghazal for the first time ! What a beautiful composition from Pandit Ghulam Qader Khan Saab, the elder brother of the great Khan Saab ! How soulfully did the great Mehdi Hassan Saab perform it ! It was as if the beautiful kalam of Ejaj Kashmiri Saab had found its truest expression in the majestic voice of the great Khan Saab ! Hat's of to all these greats for this beautiful bandish ! Just imagine to be with him. I am his fan since 1971. In 1976 went to c his show in Albert Hall. In mid 90s I met him at my friends house. My joy couldn’t be controlled when he shook my hand and blessed my 2 little boys who listened to the legendary Khansaheb since birth. One a stout fan even now at 34. Since then many back stage contacts and concerts. It’s YOUR FORTUNE THAT U R BORN IN THE ERA OF MEHDI HASSAN JI & that’s just good enough. I can send u some of my collections if like. Please confirm.

I heard this song first time here. As I listened to the start and just the first line and then second line, it just gripped my heart, took over my soul and I was just spell bound. Thereafter, I paid attention to each sur and word Khan sahib rendered. It melt me away. Only that I wish he hadn't forgotten the verse in the first antara. This is pure magic. May God bless his soul in peace for ever. Amin !!!
I don't feel that anymore description I should give about my feelings. Whatever you described same are my feelings. Infact I feel each and every word so much relatable with myself. There cant be any other Mehdi Hassan, though there are many other gazal singers to whom I listen but, every time Listening to Mehdi Sahab makes me more and more emotional and emotions take over me such that I remain gripped in that for a long time and sometimes even for days. I must have listened to the original version over 5000 times. It just made me emotional and sad. Just love Khansaheb’s emotional voice. Now in live version, I can feel his expressions and it’s extra ordinary to see and listen. Lajawab.
