@@LaBambaCL the question is difficult but frequent only to those who love and care for the Chinese so deeply and so much that can't answer themselves and must know the answer.
Talking accountability, Chinese leaders are far more accountable - look at how many Chinese politican are prescuted per year from doing a bad job VS US/UK countless clown in power. Honestly, Blair and Bush should have captical sentence & Joe, May & Truss alike must behind bars in comparison
Censorship? You really think only China has censorship? What happened to Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning and many more who try to speak out the truths,
The difference is that China officially stated what is allowed and what is not in media. They can keep anything they don't want aired to be not aired. It also gives them the ability to not allow rumors, misinformations, lies from not being aired. While in the US, it formally states it has no censorship but surreptitiously breaks it when it wants to (Snowden, Assange, etc.). Aside from that, and there is also the informal censorship. This is the reason why media in the US is like the wild west. Everybody is allowed to lie/misinterpret/slant/misinform in their reports. You have FOX saying this and you have CNN saying otherwise...the public don't know what to believe or they don't trust the media anymore.
If a free media is so important in getting accountability from the government, the American govt would have listened to their people and change their laws on guns.
If you don't subscribe to Western indoctrination and believe their propaganda, all becomes simply logical. What the professor is saying is nothing more than common sense
US does not believe in non-interference, hence it has NED funding anti-government factions (or as the US calls it: pro-democracy activists) all over the world.
You are a legend, Professor, with your brilliant intellect , common sense and decency, your vast knowledge and understanding of China and it's people, you simply have no peer ! Bravo, Professor Mahbubani .
I love how this guy twisted the professor's words. If he is a typical journalist of the West, it is no wonder that the western civilization has started to decline.
exactly, when a whole nation's population is brainwashed, the nation is stupid. Then there is 100% chance that certain politicians shall take advantage of the stupid population for their own secret agenda.
the western establishment has censorship. they just use different means to censor. things the west does not like are called fake news, conspiracy theories, racist, fascist, anti-semitic, homophobic, not complying to the rules of user agreements, etc... and you get banned, blocked, cancelled and doxxed if you don't comply to western political correctness as well.
The Westerners seem always happy talking the accountability of chinese government. What about the accountability that western elected government did? Like lunching wars/killing millions innocent peope, distroy their homes/lifes in other countries say Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan..... ? and they generally did nothing for their own country/people to improve their living in terms except political manipulation
Accountability of the government to the people is found in China and not in most western democracies. So, I believe that censorship has nothing to do with accountability. In Canada, we have a bunch of complainers about the government. We vote in one incompetent government waiting to vote in another.
I observe CCP for years. My opinion CCP actually have at least two opposition parties. One of them is of course the West world. Another is the Chinese people. CCP has to satisfy both to maintain their reign of power especially the later one. Sea
Accountability of the government is found in the west in the voting system. If you are unhappy with the Canadian parties why not set up a CCP branch - say in Vancouver where 20% are Chinese. Start voting for candidates who represent your views. There are many supporters of CCP there.
Lol this voting of incompetent governments seems to be a western theme or perhaps western culture. Accountability is part of the Chinese culture. I guess if the western world wanted to learn some "accountability", they could perhaps revamp their educational systems and start offering some Chinese history lessons.
@@Andy-P HAHAHA that's a joke. Canucks govt are mostly a bunch of lapdogs to Uncle Sam with no independent foreign policy yes accountable to Biden right now!!!
After listening to all the questions, you begin to realize that no matter how well Kishore answered them, it’s not going to change the westerners a single bit on their perception of China. Arrogance is not something a few minutes of answer can take away.
No, it isn't arrogance. It is love, the west's love for the Chinese is much more than a man loves a woman. The westerners must work tirelessly and nonstop until all Chinese are free and happy.
@@一个说话大声的中国人 if this statement isn't soaking in arrogance, I don't know what is. "Free and happy"? According to whom? And are we still so resolutely stuck in the "we are the good guys, we're here to save people, we know better THAN THEY DO what's good for them" mentality, what was previously called the White Man's Burden? Is this not what Mahbubani tried to address in this very video?
Well said! Western people and societies have this sense of superiority that was started with their strong monotheistic religious carry and was further reinforced by the West’s rise through its industrialisation of past 200 years, one that has a habit of imposing their will on others as for all the Christian crusades and religious conversions through over zealot missionary advances that are often tied to colonisation and invasions. Here, the West is trying to point fingers on a 5000 years old continuous civilisation with evolution in philosophical thinking that matches in conception to the early Greeks but more sophistication. It really is a laugh to hear Westerners ask questions like this.
I am so impress with his intellectual perspective....n in view the Singapore is looking for a leadership takeover , i feel we should elect Prof Mahbubani to be the next PM of Sg. Common all the kiasu....i am also Chinese but we always stress on meritocracy so let be professional as well . I believe we will boom . Trust we will make a good choice otherwise this tiny dot will suffer as many country especially our neighbours r jealous of our success.
@@privateconfidential7056 What’s wrong with Pro China when China’s probability of being the next superpower is very high it’s pragmatic for singapore to be pro china.
Totally agree with you. At some point, Chinese may say we don’t give a damn on what you think of me. We can live peacefully together. But if you mess around our internal fair, we will let you feel the pain one way or another. Straight and fair.
i like this, because the person who is asked a question, can answer without getting interrupted, like you see in many american news shows when the guest is giving an answer that is not what's expected of them.
Professor answers were so spot on and very very circumspect. I only wished that those people who asked questions ( mostly negative ) about China and the Chinese in China first do 3 things : 1) Read more about the History of China - at least 4000 years of civilisation. 2) At least learn to understand conversational Mandarin ( Learning to read and write is no easy task even for an overseas born Chinese who are living in Western Countries ). 3) Go to visit China and see for yourself what the real China is and not from news media which most of the time if not 99% of the time reporting news without authentication because they don't read, write and speak Mandarin. This is fact. Should we trust these people who do even know the Chinese Language to report news about and in China?
learn write in Chinese is so hard, un-like most other languages, write in Chinese is a completely different system to speak. purely depends on memorise every single Chinese Character漢字 . some say, know how to pronounce, white and the meaning of 1500 Chinese words is the entry level, 2000 words in order to read newspaper and books. a degree holder able to master 2500 - 3000 words, a doctor would master 4000 words. i left China after finish high school, nearly 20 years live in english speaking country, now i can only guarantee i don't get my name wrong. 🤣
@@1dai1lu However, there is nothing quite impossible to achieve if one put enough efforts into it. Should start from conversational practice first and slowly get into the reading and writing part.🙏🙏
@ Steven Liew That’s a tall order. They are paid to propagate lies on China, not to understand China. The moment they start to understand China, they lose their job.
Brilliant answer form my well respected Prof Kishore Mahbubbani. U.S. and its allies should consult him on political issues to have a peaceful world, stop behaving like bunch of trouble makers or acting like Big brothers.
Western Media and reporter made tonnes of $$$. So it is very difficult for them to hold true to the responsibility & accountability toward their profession. This is more so with so many media companies sprouting out everywhere.
The Chinese and the Easterner people have this to say to the Westerners, I don't like to teach you how you should live your life, and neither do I want you to teach me how to live my life. So, please, let all of us mind our own business and live in peace together on this beautiful planet.
Please listen to our prime minister LHL, Defence Minister Dr Ng, DPM Heng, Lawrence Wong, Ong Ye Kung, George Yeo, Khaw Boon Wan etc before suggesting… Kishore is good but our ministers have reason to hold office.
The West understands everything there is to understand about China and its history. They also understand China's evolutionary cycles. It is this knowledge that drives their current containment and propaganda programmes and policies. China's progress can't be stopped. The question is whether the West is prepared to go to war to stop It. I know that if I were Chinese I would be prepared to fight for It. The West only understands Putin's language of firmness
Far from it. The west understands very little about China because they don't bother to learn. When they don't understand, they say Chinese are inscrutable. Their arrogance has made them shut down most Confucius Institute in the west! Now that's clear how arrogant they are.
@@jacintochua6885 apart of arrogance the evil and corrupted US politicians in particular are blinded by their hegemonic ambition and their MSM have been bought to push an anti-China narratives.
They say that Taiwan is important to the world with 25% of world's semi-con. Then isn't China more important being the world's factory and a critical part of the world's supply chain? It's called containment because they cannot afford a war. They can only try to contain.
@ lewis.f You are right. They only want China to remain poor and undeveloped so they can only produce cheap goods and labour for the developed countries to keep their costs of living low.
Why does the guy who asked the question act like he actually cares about the well bings of ordinary Chinese? when essentially he just wants to point fingers!
From the self-introduction of the gentleman who posed the question, you can see that he's full of himself and he's not going to be convinced of anything Kishore Mahbubani has to say. Wisdom is not for everybody, evidently.
If the Chinese wants to be Americanized, they'd move to America ! What makes the Americans think their system and life style is the best in the world ???
Why should westerners be so troubled about why people in other countries are happy with their own government? It is like wondering why some people choose to live in deserts where the temperature can hit 50 degree Celsius or in regions where temperature can go down to - 70 degree Celsius.
Yes the media is there to keep government accountable, but that is not what they are doing. Media is owned by billionaires who have a vested interest in maintaining the Status quo and their wealth and therefore publish everything to keep the government that represents them the best, in power
The bloody and prejudiced stereotyping by the Anglos towards China is indescribable and beyond words. Only way to change that is by China overtaking and overpowering them one day, and that day will come, mark my words! Having said that, overpowering people is not in the Chinese blood as we honour cooperation and collaboration.
Censorship is self imposed at the human level. Even in an authoritarian nation. People seeking greater understanding of themselves in relation to our only home and it's now 8 billion fellow humans are everywhere....
No, censorship does not keep peace currently because people are aware of the censorship. This makes people angry. As long as people are ignorant of the censorship I guess they can be happy enough.
No censorship means everybody is allowed to air truths even if their truths are outright lies. Just look at the information/misinformation about covid-19 in the US. Only about 63% americans are fully vaccinated, and that is because everybody is allowed to voice out their two-bit information. Almost half of americans are convinced to be anti-vaccine...the result 850,000 dead of covid so far. In contrast, any one spreading rumors, fake news, misinformation will be shut down right away in china and subject to reprimand or punishment. There is no ifs and buts about it. The result, China is fully vaccinated and follows safety precautions. There is a negative and positive to everything. In this round, I think censorship wins.
@@rap3208I am against censorship. There is misinformation everywhere. I don't care. Human beings will always get some things wrong even when they are trying their best. Here's some misinformation: Dr. Fauci said he didn't use US tax dollars for gain of function research in the Wuhan lab. That was a lie. He was a fan of gain of function research. I believe it's irresponsible and dangerous, but if he is in favor of that kind of research, he should be brave enough to tell us the benefits. I think it is really weird that people would look to their government to tell them what to do about anything. They are just a bunch of fallible humans bumbling along trying to make the best decisions but getting it wrong most of the time. I haven't been impressed. Have you? I knew it was my responsibility from the beginning to make wise decisions for our family. Cut out sugar, increase vitamins, get sunshine. If I had 7 different forms of cancer I still would never expect someone to get vaccinated against their will just to protect me.

This Singaporean Professor that I once adored and respected, very unfortunately, doesn't recognize nor believe the repression of the Uygur Muslims and the atrocities, persecution and human rights violations being committed against the Uygurs by the Chinese government and communist party... this is simply a distortion of the truth and facts of what's happening on ground in China... hence, this is sadly misinformation by the Professor aimed at misleading us away from the truth.
