Kiss Performs "I" (Live) - Fridays

Kiss has always been my favorite band since 1979. I was 15 when this aired originally. I remember hearing they would be on this show and it was going to be the greatest thing since man landed on the moon! lol. I started playing the guitar around the same time because of Ace. But as the years have gone by (still my favorite band), I’ve come to respect and appreciate Paul more than the others. I have a lot of respect for Paul. He does not get the recognition he deserves as a musician. He’s a great guitarist and not bad at all with leads. The closest I ever got to meeting him was at the Rock the Nation tour in Virginia Beach (born and raised) when he flew out in the middle of the amphitheater when they started Love Gun. I was right at the foot of the platform when he look down and saw me and gave me a thumbs up! I’ll never forget that👍

As a KISS fan since -- yes! -- 1973, the year they began, I've always loved this album right along with all the other lifetime of good music my favorite band has gifted us all with over the decades and never understood why it was so reviled.

Over 40 years Kiss has been in my heart. Somehow The Elder and Unmasked are my favourite albums. Also the Lost songs of Killers stay in my playlist forever.

I saw this episode when it aired. Love this Album. So underrated. I wish they played this song in their final tour. Such a great “pump me up” song !

No joke, one of my favorite songs! Remember the first time I heard it when I was 13 years old. It's sentimental to me for some reason. The Elder is a brilliant Bob Ezrin and KISS album. Absolutely love it from start to finish.

Still love this song. Great Anthem. I was a kid in 1981. I remember watching this. I was like 12. This was my youth. But Kiss were on hard times at this stage. This is great stuff. Nostalgia mania!! Eric was awesome. RIP.

I remember watching this on Fridays back in the day. I had gotten away from KISS for awhile and I knew Fridays had “live “ music so I wanted to hear what KISS sounded like after the years I missed. I wasn’t disappointed. “I” and “The Oath” became motivational workout tunes for me back then. I still get pumped when I hear these ! Thanks for all the memories KISS !

Still laugh at how they had to sing "guts" because they weren't allowed to say "balls" on television, even though this was after midnight when they played this song (Fridays had about the same time slot as SNL, except it was on ABC and, of course, it showed on Friday). I still remember seeing this live.

Amazing song,the lyrics brings us a very positive feeling,in which we must to believe in ourselves,not allowing the handicaps become more than our dreams and objectives. Great.

I saw this as a kid when it was televised live on Fridays. I remember really liking this song even though I was kind of done with KISS by this time. Loved them in their heydey in the 70's, and Creatures brought me back, but this song was all that I really cared for from them for about a 3 or 4 year period.

I saw KISS in Houston, Texas October 4th 1974 @ The Houston Music Theater. 2,500 ___ ___ occupancy. Opening for KISS was none other than another up-in-coming RUSH. Bands from the awesome Canada. Wow! What a night! After hours party at my Brownstone condo. More to be revealed upon request.

Ace was always the coolest Kiss member.

Here's a list of reasons why I is the best song from "Music from The Elder: 1.) The chorus just makes you wanna go out and fight someone 2.) It's the only KISS song to have a "snapping" solo (on the studio version) 3.) Gene saying getting wasted holds him down Also, the way that woman at the beginning raises her hand and yells is so beautifully bad.

This song SHOULD have been a huge hit in 1981. This was 100% equal to their followup "Creatures of the Night" in '82. I actually bought this from the record store when it came out after seeing KISS' video for "World without Heroes". THE ELDER is a highly underrated KISS album that was the only album ever that incorporated sophisticated symphony orchestration. In 1981, I thought this was a movie soundtrack & given that context this album made perfect sense being listened to exactly as that. Had there been an actual movie I think it would have changed everything on the reception of this album. Nobody ever seems to mention something I've been aware of since 1981...which is that legendary Film score composer/musician Michael Kamen formerly of the late 60's/early 70's experimental Rock/Classical band NEW YORK ROCK ENSEMBLE worked on this album for KISS. Before he was composing countless, beautiful Film scores Michael Kamen was the lead vocalist/musician of NEW YORK ROCK ENSEMBLE. Their hardest rocking album was 1971's "ROLL OVER"...which btw 3yrs prior to KISS featured prominently on their album cover...guess what...a demon sticking his tongue out exactly like Gene Simmons. Hmmm...wonder where Gene got his idea for the demon sticking out his tongue??? So...Michael Kamen's band 1968-73 did something very unusual at that time combining Classical Music with Rock. ALL their musicians were classically trained & educated. I hear Michael Kamen's influence with his symphony orchestra all throughout THE ELDER. Also keep in mind this is drummer Eric Carr's 1st album appearance...& he was incredible! Also...Ace Frehley had 1 of the best songs on this being "Dark Light" which also SHOULD have also been a big hit! But...music was changing at this point in history & KISS had been losing popularity since their music started going getting less Rock & more Pop with DYNASTY in 1979. UNMASKED was even weaker in 1980...so THE ELDER was just the last nail in the coffin seeming to fall wayyyy off the tracks. KISS also completely changed their outfits & looks trying to look sleek & "New Wave" with NO platform boots & new short hairstyles!lol It was like "KISS meets Duran Duran".lol Unfortunately this is about the summation of what derailed that once great but forgotten band NEW YORK ROCK ENSEMBLE 10yrs earlier. Every album was different tho good on its own...but they couldn't ever keep or establish an identity. So...THE ELDER was a truly lost, underrated album. It was the perfect storm to make this album a failure in 1981 that seemed as strange as seeing a cellphone in an old 1940's movie,lol...but on it's own revisited years beyond it's out of place appearance...this is 1 of KISS' best forgotten albums!! RIP composer Michael Kamen who brought us some of the greatest music in movies for many years...

I love THE ELDER (MUSIC FROM), since I had a cassette to listening these songs. I know that THE ELDER is the most underrated Kiss' LP.

From all Kiss tunes, this one's the most rooted in their selves. It's not outstanding in melody, it's not outstanding in performance. But somehow, it's sticking all pieces together that I remember of Kiss: The rebellious metal, the desire for appraisal, the swift performance. Afaik the album version contains a pretty nice drum solo.

Amazing drum tone transition between this and "I Love It Loud"...from coffee can lids to thunder claps in just one year.

I remember seeing this way back in the day on Fridays. Don't remember Paul Stanley acting like a girl but there it is.

Did anyone notice Paul and Gene exchange words at 2:44 ? - the reason being is that they were reminding each other to say the words "GUTS OF MY OWN" instead of "BALLS OF MY OWN" at 3:10. It wasn't appropriate to say "balls" in 1982 which is what the original lyrics stated.

This is the first time I seen them doing "I" not lipsynched. Probably because I'm not in the U.S. Cool vid

I've watched this video countless times over the years and today was the first time I noticed Big John Hart standing to the side of the stage. Just nodding his head and eyeballing the crowd.

Only you and under the rose are two of the greatest songs of all fucking time! Yes, of all fucking time. Any band, any time any place. Any album you want to put them up against. Under the rose is *perfect! A haunting , hair raising example of song wring magick!

I loved "The Elder" cause though it was different from the KISS from the 70's it showcased how creative the band could be in venturing out with different styles and yet could still have a few rockers like "I", "The Oath", "Escape to the islands" and "Under the rose". And look how many bands tried to change with the times in the late 70's into the early 80's like...Queen...Styx...Foreigner... the Rolling stones... Rush...etc...So KISS is no different and this album made me appreciate them more as a musician. They still had great music even if it was softer of more experimental. And "Unmasked" and "Creatures" are my favs!

As a fan from the 70s I loved this song. Great lyrics of empowerment. I also liked the stripped down, thinner, more active outfits although I would have preferred the 7” platform boots.

I too love the elder. However, my favorite song off of that album is "A World Without Heroes." It has a great amount of depth and meaning. I think it really holds true as well.

Just cool to see and hear the actual members of the band playing the song instead of session musicians like on the album.

The audience is just sitting there bored. At the 50 second mark they look like they're waiting for it to be over. I really like this song. It was one of the few tracks on The Elder that I thought just about anyone could get into. Very accessible song and the studio audience just wants no part of it. KISS was in a big funk when this was filmed.

Just judging off the songs they played on Friday, I get the feeling Music from The Elder is a much better album than it was given credit for. These songs (and performances) are very strong. Paul, Gene, Ace and Eric are giving the songs life.

I loved the song "I" by KISS. I could NOT BELIEVE that it had been a whole year since my favorite band had left the shores of my home country of Australia. Australia it was the first Single of the Elder. I did okay and came in at Number #22 on the Aussie charts. QUESTION - As I am a dumb Aussie, can anyone tell me . . Does anyone know why KISS chose the TV show Fridays? Is it true that "normally" KISS would NOT go onto a TV show like "Fridays" and Solid Gold,.
