Camping at this Florida state Park can be quite a treat, even with a full moon on display, though my next trip will definitely be on a darker night so I can see even more stars.
Of course, the main draw of any destination for me is wildlife, and there is a ton of it here.
You don't have to go far to find it, but you know I wanted to get away from the campground and people, so I chose make a loop hike of the McGuire Hammock Trail and the McGuire Prairie Trail. The trailhead is about 6 miles from the campground so I brought my bike along, to pedal my way out there in less time. This still wasn't easy because a lot of the road "Military Trail" is made up of soft sand. I made it, none the less, and was happy to find that the scenery is different. I was worried I'd put in all that effort and have it look exactly like what I could find at my campsite. After I finished the hike, I cycled out to the Kissimmee River and found several species of birds I hadn't seen anywhere else on property. Another win!
I do admit, most of my better footage was captured just by riding or walking around closer to camp.
The slough full of alligators looking for dinner was insanely cool!
I also enjoyed the many turkey I ran into throughout my stay. Even filmed some gobbling.
Plenty of deer to be found at this park as well. Saw a couple spotted fawns which is always special.
