This is the first in a series of mini tutorials on how to use the new KISSlicer 1.6 Tuning Wizards. I'll describe what the Tuning Wizard is all about and then get started by tuning filament extrusion temperature. Even if you use Slic3r, Cura or another slicer, you can use the Tuning Wizard to properly tune extrusion temperature, flow rate and retract (called destring in KISS) to GREATLY simplify these calibrations. And since the base version of KISS is free, why not give it a go?

Wow. This is an amazing tutorial. It's rare that we can find anything this detailed and informative. I hope you'll make many more of these!

Your videos are just awesome, Michael! Love the detail you go into. Cant wait for the other tutorials, especially on Preload. Any ETA on these? thanks!

I just ran across Kiss Slicer and your videos, I have high hopes for it, and just went through setting it up and this first bit of tuning. I really appreciated this video. Did you ever make the videos of using the rest of the tuning wizards? Are there good instructions out there?

Great video! Its really helpful in learning KISS Slicer... if I may make a request- can you include bigger screenshots of the settings panels and a larger picture of the test cube. The details get lost a little bit. Thanks again, look forward to what else you might post.

Any updates on the other tuning videos? Also, would like a demo on how to use a custom setting like fan speed in the wizard to test cooling similar to the temperature test.

Hi and thank you for this another great tutorial. Personally, I do the temperature wizard starting from higher temperature to lowest temperature for two reasons: 1st, it gives a better adhesion to the bed at higher temperatures, 2nd, it's easier and faster for my printer (prusa i3 mk2) to decrease temperatures instead of increasing it (when increasing temperature, it pauses the print to wait until it reaches the required temperature)

Yes, that is a perfectly good option too. Depending on filament and temperature range you can have situations where the filament bonds too tightly due the higher lower temp. PETG that I used in the demo is one of these.

Still making the AWESOME videos I see. So you say to go through the 'tuning wizards' 1st before messing with(or you don't at all) the PreloadVE experimental wizard on the Material tab and just fine tune the defaults with the tuning wizard.
@AHackOfAllTrades

Thanks djC653! So, the experimental wizard will be part of the 3rd episode on the Preload Wizard. It might seem a bit confusing because there are several alternative paths to get a usable PreloadVE coefficient. If you know know thing about the filament, the Experimental Wizard can get you in the ball park quickly. You then use its experimental PreloadVE coefficient in the Preload Wizard to refine it. In fact, the Preload Wizard describes in the Help panel that you should use 0 to 2 times the experimental PreloadVE in the Wizard.

How do you change the spacing between the models? Example: I am printing 12 of and item. When I use Slic3r, cura, or S3d I can fit all 12 but when I use Kiss I can only fit 9. I notice a lot of space between the models.

One thing I notices when printing these test cubes is separation at each point where the printer pauses to cool down a degree. I assume I guess I ignore those delam sections and use the sections in between?
@AHackOfAllTrades

Scott, that is exactly what could happen at temperatures below the best extrusion temperature. As the filament is extuded at hotter temps, it should bond better to the neighboring layers. You want to find the layers where you get a good strong bond at the lowest temperature.

Great Video Michael. I was noticing on sliding up through the sliced model that at some points on the slider the model doesn't show a layer. Is this a resolution issue? I also run into an error screen when adjusting the Style layer thickness. The error will pop up a window exclaiming possible layer issues with min max average and std values listed. I'm not sure how to interpret this data to make adjustments. Trial and error has shows that it only happens when I get above 45% on the thickness of a layer using .4 nozzle and extrusion width of .4 also. Throw me a bone on this one Michael. Thanks for all you do.
@AHackOfAllTrades
@AHackOfAllTrades 6 лет назад
Not a resolution issue, KISS should show all layers. However, if you have 2 or more models and used adaptive layer heights the models can be slice with different thicknesses of layers so you will see that effect on one model alternating back and forth with the other sometimes. Your error message tells me that you have enabled adaptive layer heights. The developer told me this can sometimes happen when there are flat areas (lands) on the model that can cause this. Resolve by setting back to standard fixed layers, test slice and then introduce adaptive layers using conservative values first. Your description of "above 45%" is a clue that this is what's going on.

hello, is there any part 2 and so on? I would like to use your program but if I have to stop on configuration only with temperature inside wizard I don't know if I could continue using it (and maybe, purchase pro/premium version)... please let me know, thank you!

why does my file try and print in the left bottom corner, not the center?

You most likely have incorrectly setup the Printer tab with the bed size and bed center. Take a look, it is pretty straight forward.
