When it comes to the Old West, they don’t get much more legendary than Kit Carson. Although soft-spoken and physically small, this larger-than-life mountain man would go on - during his own life - to become a national hero, and in death, he’d be immortalized in bronze. But who was Kit Carson? What sort of a man was he? What was his childhood like, and what events shaped him into the legend he’d become? Was Carson a courageous hero or a bloodthirsty killer and the living embodiment of manifest destiny? Or just somewhere in between? And just how short was he anyway? Also discussed are the Blackfeet, Jim Bridger, the Mountain Man rendezvous, and Carson’s encounter with a giant known as the bully of the mountains. #history #wildwest #western

Carson has always been a legend larger than life. We have a place in northern New Mexico a short distance from Taos, Fort Union, and Rayado. His history in this area is immense. I consider Carson the most significant figure of Southwestern history.

Got the chance to visit his home and museum during a trip to New Mexico as a teen. The Sange De Cristo range is some gorgeous country, man had taste for certain.

You should do a video about Kit Carson's brother, Bill Carson. He had an interesting life too: he nabbed a cache of Confederate gold, and buried it in an unmarked grave, and then Tuco, Angel Eyes and Blondie embarked on an adventure to find it. It was quite a story.

Dogs are the best. They are just as much of the family as any person. To the person mentioned who recently lost theirs, I have no doubt you showed your dog a lot of love, the thing dogs want most from us. So for every day you had your dog it had what it wanted more than anything so it passed happy knowing it was loved into the next world. It's hard to think about getting another one when in pain of losing one I know. Almost feel guilty because you don't want to replace the one you lost but getting another dog helps tremendously I've learned over the years. With so many out there that need a good loving home it's a win win. Again I'm truly sorry.

Going to school in the four corners area in s.w. Colorado and my pops being a huge history buff I learned and heard a fair amount of circular information regarding the man. Never reading a book or studying particularity the name Carson repeatedly came up when the topic of local legends was in the air.(now I'm eager to learn more about him). Pops regarded him highly, my school teachers (including a few educators from the Navajo nation) didn't tell a positive anecdotal conclusion for anything good whatsoever when his name came up in s.w. studies. I concluded those who really know anything relative to their localities either love or hate him. Dad worked for the Ute tribe, many buddies of mine were local jicarrilla apache, Carson would help get there livestock returned no matter the foe. Hero to us, tyrant to others. Crazy how these things still persist

Kit Carson was a man of his times. He did what he and others had to do to survive. What's unfortunate is how many people today yearn to be just like their heroes from 200 or more years ago. Pretend mountain men and cowboys that idolize what they believe to be simpler and more satisfying times. They dream of the best and ignore everything bad. Fantasy mountain men and social rejectionists that don't have the self motivation to compete in the contemporary world, but believe they'd rather live when your arm had to be sawed off without anesthesia.

Excellent program Josh! Kit Carson is one of the most compelling characters of his era. I had never heard of Canyon de Chelly until I studied Carson's life about 30 years ago. Nothing like that place in North America. Glad you are doing more on Kit Carson.

After the beaver market collapsed , Carson ended up down in San Antonio and opened a used car lot. He also sold cell phones, but after a couple of years, the call of the wild got to him. He had enough of city life and went back out on the plains where he was eventually killed by Commanches that he repoed a car from.

Love your channel dude! Carson City and river are awesome places! Poor doggie in your story. Lost an awesome cat in that area of Nevada that retrieved quail rabbits for me! Coyote got him. 21:48 I have never understood why guys get so stupid over a girl/ woman. They get so bad I’m embarrassed just witnessing it. My wife and I are 35yo and have been married for 15 years. And one of our first serious arguments I told her if she seriously doesn’t want me anymore, all she had to do is tell me in a calm cool, headed way and I would be gone. “I don’t want someone that doesn’t want me” and we have gone through a lot of troubles and the key is make up your mind that whatever it is you’re going to make it through it. I can also proudly say I’ve never spent one a night on the couch. The one time she told me to go to the couch, I said “no, if you don’t want to be beside me, you go to the couch. We haven’t had that problem since.

If you watch Petticoat Junction a tv show this is the day it aired on September 24, 1963 there Uncle Joe on the tv show played Joe Carson who had a relative by the name of Kit Carson so after watching this as a child growing up to learn about Kit Carson is awesome 😎

The USA had conflicting territorial claims with Britain. If the Americans trapped out ALL the beaver then the Hudson Bay Company wouldn’t send their trappers into the disputed region. Lessening the British claim
