In a follow up to having reviewed the contents of the new FPW plastics from Perry Miniatures, join me as I look over what you can build using the contents, some of the interchangeable parts between sprues and a few of the difficulties in assembling these particular figures.

Bought Perrys ACW artillery and Confederate infantry sets few months ago, they look to be a very good quality figures. Thank you for this review👌

They looks fantastic ! But see they also need a lot of building time . Great video

Yes the mould lines on the face and rifles really extends the build time.

Really great to see these assembled and a nice in-depth review. Havent got round to mine yet but looking forward to it. The side on castings of the heads is one of the only things I can consistently fault in some perry kits with, I think the Napoleonic Russian Infantry was the same and it really makes what would be a fantastic kit, just that slightly bit annoying as you say its the most detailed part of the mini you have to go scraping to remove the mould lines.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. The mould lines on the faces/heads (in particular) is disappointing. As you say, it appears on previous kits as well. I mentioned in the video that I don't want to be too unfair - given the usual meticulous attention to detail you'd think there must be a reason why. However that doesn't explain why some of the heads are not cast that way - if some can be facing out of the sprue to avoid the issue, why can't they all?

Thanks for the review. These do look good but the issue with the faces is a big one for me. Not sure if it really is necessary either as no other company seems to make plastic heads that way.

It’s a curious practice certainly. It requires extra time to rectify that will put some people off.

I just received a box of these and, sad to say, there were indeed mould lines across all the faces.
@thelastbattalion3509

Yes it’s an unfortunate feature of the set (and some of the predecessors). Very careful scraping is required but it’s not easy. The issue is exacerbated by any mould misalignment.

I've previously had no interest in the FPW, but I am strangely in love with these minis! I'm thinking of using them for Sean Sutter's Sludge Wars, or is that heresy? Or Rebels & Patriots, which uses a very similar force org and basing regime. What are you going to do with yours?
@thelastbattalion3509

I’m sure you should feel able to use them for whatever you like! Theoretically I’d probably use them for a skirmish rule set like Chain of Command but I’m debating at the moment scrapping the idea. I just don’t have time for all these projects.

Do you think to do a painting tutorial ? I can't wait to buy them in the beggining of 2022 :) do you think the Vallejo Dark prussian blue would be OK for their uniforms ?
@thelastbattalion3509
@thelastbattalion3509 3 года назад
I will probably do a painting video on them when I find the time. Dark Prussian Blue would probably work very well for the uniforms, I haven’t decided what I’m going to use yet.

not that i have any plans to buy these , but mold lines on the face means i'll buy metal figures instead .

A very reasonable decision I think!

It's too bad the angle of the bolt is incorrect.
@thelastbattalion3509
@thelastbattalion3509 2 года назад
True, but not a detail that many people would notice I think. Perhaps it was difficult to sculpt or cast in such a way as wouldn’t be susceptible to damage?
@AbbieOates

@@thelastbattalion3509 I contacted them, and it appears it was an error. I don't have them yet, but do you think it would be difficult to cut the bolt off and rearrange it in the correct place?
@thelastbattalion3509
@thelastbattalion3509 2 года назад
@@AbbieOates Interesting, a surprising error. I think you literally could achieve it but I personally don't think it would be worth the effort and it doesn't bother me enough to do so. You would need a very sharp knife and a lot of patience - the bolt does not protrude greatly and it would be hard to keep track of what would essentially be a dot, not to mention then avoid glueing your fingers to the model.

@@thelastbattalion3509 I feel, from a small arms point of view that the Dreyse is as iconic in the conflict as the Pickelhaube. So I guess that's why I would enjoy modeling it.

@@AbbieOates I'm inclined to agree with you and I've got nothing but admiration for the level of commitment to rectifying that detail!
