Head might be hard to source if you want a full squad of these. Also a pretty big model, with not much realism as a proxy for a flying mech. Maybe if it was something grounded. Bonereapers are fine for Tyranid Warriors or a slow Necron or Admech unit. Castellon Robots maybe?
My favorite part of playing tau, is that you could make anything you want as a proxy, slap some tau bits on there, and it's now 100% cannon, because it's not like the Tau species get any art anyway.
Noted! The Xenos stuff is trickier because it's more about coming up with something new rather than riffing off what already exists but I'll certainly try my best.
I love this. The concept, the sculpting and kitbash, and the high blue-orange contrast. Just all really inspired and challenging. The basing also gives me an idea to tie into some old green dry brushed sand astroturf bases.
Maybe cause last of us in the zeitgeist but I imagine these guys being unkbowingly imitators other creatures around them. A space marine returns from his mission only to take off his helmet revealing a twisting stalks and caps of the creature that replaced them. As his former brothers level thier weapons, emotionless and unaware, he asks "what are my orders?"
I have no experience painting and building models, but your videos fill me with absolute joy, and I now have a kill team concept I'm trying to get together. Keep up the great work!
Quick note: if you’re buying a ‘kill team’ box (units/starter set), I’d recommend buying a unit of infantry or a character to practice on as they have lots of detail. Or some boarding patrol boxes, some have a kill team such as Orks or aeldari (I think) as well as other guys to practice on. Or ignore me, I’m just some random internet guy and you should follow what you think
"What the hell is that?" The human auxillary borderline screamed as he saw the nearly 9 foot tall mass of machine and fungi walk by. His squadmate, a tau warrior of the fire caste simply started laughing in response. "What's the matter, never seen a Scrav Aioc before?" The Gue'vsa stated silent. "Don't worry, human, they are on our side thankfully. These guys are some of the strongest soldiers our empire can field, I've personally seen a few rip a space marine in half. Catch is, see those helmets they are wearing?" "...yea" the human muttered in response. "Those are needed not only for them to breathe but to communicate with us. Scrav don't talk like me or you, they communicate with pheromones. Strange buggers if I do say so myself, but fine warriors. Now come on, we should keep going." The two warriors looked once more at the massive fungal alien, and continued on their way.
I certainly don't have your same imagination to create an auxiliary race for T'au from scratch. However, a number of years ago, I began using Karmans from the AT-43 miniatures line as auxiliaries for my T'au forces in 40K. The models were inexpensive at the time, and they look fantastic when dressed up with a wash and some nice basing.
I do wish GW would pay more attention to non-mech T'au. It would probably be imbalanced as hell if they added the other races of the T'au emprie to the tabletop like the not!Squats, brain worms and super-psycher bears, but maybe for killteam at least? My ideal scenario would be if T'au was broken up into two armies like how Eldar are 5 and we get a separate army book for the Tau Auxillary Legion with models for the 20 or so canonical T'au empire races. A man can dream.
This is maybe my favorite thing you've ever done, the use of fantasy skeleton weirdos as fungal aliens is inspired and I think this all just a really cool idea
Such a unqiue and cool desgin that really helps flesh out the universe. Reminding us there is more to the 40k than the major races. Thank you, fantastic work.
Now i just want the TAU codex to have an entire subcodex of "Build-your-own-Auxillary" where they basically just give you a bunch of different parts with points costs to work with and add as much as you want, and the icing on the cake is it will encourage you to kitbash your own stuff.
it is amazing how you create a very unique look here with just a few kits and a little sculpting! loved this, would like to see more in that direction!
I love it, great concept & execution, & the colour scheme really pops. Also, the pixel used thumbnail made me see the whole thing as a Dead Cells or Hyper Light Drifter character, which was another level of cool!
Absolutely love it! If you wanted to go even harder into the whole crisis proxy you could possibly use tyranid warrior arms and replace their 2 armed cannons in a similar way but using heavy/special weapons used by crisis suits. And considering how many weapons you can have on a crisis suit you could use all 4 arm slots to give it 4 arms and have the upper arms like you have done, but had lower arms with the heavy cannon.
Absolutely love this idea, kitbash and paintjob! I really love seeing what you do beyond the imperium and Space Marines and I hope this video gets the attention it deserves to warrant venturing into more 'out there' videos :) great vid!
This is one of your coolest conversions to date. I think it would be an awesome series to see either more of this race, or more wild and wacky tau auxiliaries
After watching this, I imagined theorical T'au codex introducing Scrav Aioc by having guy from your kitbash curb-stomp that gunslinger-themed Genestealer Cult unit in "gunslinger duel"
He looks great! On the topic of other fungal 40k races, I'd love to see some ork kitbashes, it's rather surprising how few have been featured on a channel dedicated to kitbashing.

I like this design but I feel the head needed to be blended in a bit more, would have like to have seen less of the bottom of the drone and more bio mass engulfing it. I also feel the drone antenna would have been a better choice then the ones used for battle suits and helmets. Would have made it look more like the disc on its head was a mixture of fungus and tau technology
Yeah, this is incredible! I've been daydreaming about a kit-bashed take on the Xenarch xenos race that have had dotted references throughout various 40k lore texts. And this has provided me with a lot of inspiration. Great work
One of my biggest problems with 40k is the lack of real alien-feeling aliens. The eldar, orks, and votann all feel more like fantasy dragged awkwardly into a sci-fi setting; and with the tyranids being a culture-less hive mind, and the necrons bearing (imo) too much resemblance to human culture to really feel alien, that just leaves the tau to fill the "alien culture" void. All that to say that I really like what you did here: injected a bit more of the sci-fi feel into 40k. I hope you explore custom alien species more in the future.
