Mark, you are handling a tough situation with patience and grace. The progress is very good, especially considering the world situation. Major renovations take a good bit of time anyway. Looking forward to updates and a grand tour of the finished project. Stay safe.

A couple of things, Mark 🤔🤔🤨 I appreciate the break from watching YT all of the time. I don't want to miss any, but sometimes stuff just has to be done. SO, there is that. I remember once, we were about to do another move and a dear friend of mine said- just get up and do the day because a few weeks after it's over, you won't remember how hard it was. She was right. You can think back and remember, but the pain part disappears from memory. So there is that! Now- benches? I kept trying to picture where you were going to put benches. I was thinking , well I will have to wait and see...Then- I realized you call benches, what we call counters. Here, if you told someone to put something on a bench, they would look around for a place to sit. 😂

That was my first thought, too! LOL

Thanks for the encouragement K.P! I can see how benches can be confusing. We call it a "kitchen bench" but also countertops or simply just "stone" so even we get confused lol... Cheers :)

I think the two fridges side by side is a very wise choice. If one breaks down, you still have another one to use, having one huge fridge could be problematic if it breaks down. I recently bought a small upright freezer that can also be used as a fridge. I also have a small chest freezer. Having the different functions and accessibility of the two has been very helpful when we've had our large family feasts such as Thanksgiving (U.S.) and Christmas. The chest freezer we load once a year with batches (about 70-100 lbs.) of roasted green chile. It's nice to have that separate from the upright freezer where I store my baked goods for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The little freezer over the fridge is handy for frequently used items such as my homemade bone and vegetable stock/broth. I love the stainless steel bench tops, you'll never regret that choice!

At my last home, every time I had the microwave and the toaster going at the same time, almost always, it would short out. So at THIS home, I had the electrician run a separate circuit just for the microwave. No problems now, love it! I also had a separate circuit for the WiFi too, which does seem to be working nicely, doesn't slow down the computer any more when I turn the lights on etc. You are going to LOVE the stainless countertops when you are harvesting a chicken for dinner, and it looks amazing!

Lovely. So interesting that all food prep and appliances is designated in a very small enclosed area (but perhaps wise). I learn so much because what you call a bench, we call a countertop in the US. Fun! 100 years and more ago, in the oldest part of our old cities, many homes had a 'summer kitchen' which was either in the basement or in a corner of the detached brick "shed" (originally for a horse and buggy) ... many still have the stovepipe and original cast iron stove where all summer cooking, canning, preserving was done. Even in 4, 6 and 8-family flats, the "detached garage" was where the summer kitchen was shared .... What goes around, comes around again .....

Hope all is well. I know some areas got hit with more flooding yesterday and today. Hope you are not affected. Also saw that the food banks in Sidney were getting hammered with so many struggling due to inflation and the weather issues. Glad you are self sufficient. It is so important today more than in times past. You have done such a fantastic job of educating and encouraging so many to prepare for themselves. You have touched and changed many lives all over the blue marble. Because of your efforts many will not need the food banks and may be able to help others. Thank you! Many blessings.

Mark the Reno looks great your patience will be rewarded in the end. My mum had a double drive running down hill to her garage with the same water problem I cut a channel about 20cm in front of the doors and installed a pre made drain and cover in and ran it into a storm water drain and it solved all of the water problems even in the heaviest down pours.

Mark, what a well thought out pantry space. I have a few thoughts as a Florida friend with similar climate. One, make sure your ovens are well insulated and don’t kick out heat as you are storing food in the same area. Two, try to ensure extra cooling in this space with extra AC vents or a separate cooling system to keep the area drier and cooler. Since we can’t have root cellars our pantries need to be cool and dry. Enjoy your new space! I can’t wait to see it completed. I will enjoy preserving videos! 🤓

Landscaping, good planned earth works can do so much to prevent floods. That's a part of permaculture too. Building drainage, keylines, swales, ponds, etc. Many followers are a good thing, but if a few of them would help, good things will happen and the work will be done. Supposed, you need some helping hands...

Just finished a nine-month reno with a focus on the kitchen, so nice having it behind us and being able to actually cook inside again (similar to you, we cooked in our screened-in porch and garage).
