Hyrum, thanks so much for this great video! I'm getting ready to do my cabinets in green and have been searching the internet for kitchens done in a darker color with a glaze over them. This was perfect! I would never have thought to go with black over green but it will give me a similar result as your blue. Exactly what I've been looking for!
Well don't follow anything they're doing. Look at all those brush marks.... cabinets are not supposed to have brush marks but a nice clean smooth factory finish.
Wow. That is exactly what I'm in the process of doing in my kitchen now. I just came on RU-vid to see some ideas of what people are using for black glaze. I came up with the idea from a kitchen I saw on Pinterest. Nice finally project you have there
Very helpful! I have a kitchen with glazed cabinets. Water damage to some of them and I needed to figure out how to fix and then re-glaze. Great tip on shop towels. Thank you!
"The GUY at the store said"...that was your first mistake, listening to a guy at the store who'd probably never painted and glazed anything in his life. YT is full of people who've actually painted and glazed...unlike the guy at the store. When it comes to paint and color, I rarely listen to the guys at the store. They only know what they're told. When I start talking colors and coordination and what the eye 'sees' and what it ignores, their eyes glaze over. But you showed that you're on a diff level from the guy at the store and kept looking. Good for you!!
Two thoughts are making me crazy... Maybe it’s just me, but I could not put all of that work into painting something as expensive as kitchen cabinets and overlook primer showing through. The work space is a mess! I can understand not wanting to glaze the backside, but I can hear and see the backs sticking to glaze that’s on the plastic sheeting. The backs have to be a mess from that. It can also pull off the blue paint. Maybe that’s why primer spots are visible.
Good question - I don't remember the name of it. Should be able to just ask at wherever you purchase your paint and glaze for them to recommend a good option. :) Good luck with your project
Its interesting Brandon, it was just a spray can we bought to try and protect the cabinets from grease and oil splashes etc. We sprayed our island down, but I don't think we ever got around to really spraying the rest of the kitchen, and its been over a year, and the paint looks just as good as it did day 1. You could probably skip the top coat
I was looking at the time stamp on each comment and couldn’t help but laugh . So many comments saying they are doing this soon , and thank you they are ready to attack their kitchen. Fast forward to today 2022-2023 and I can’t tell you how many of these homeowner specials that look absolutely terrible , as this one did as well and was probably repainted by the new homeowners as you’ve stated to sold your house , that I have repainted already with this same exact glazing style done ……. Def not how you glaze
No, I don't think so. I bought wood stain first and noticed it said for raw wood, not painted surfaces. Does Amazon deliver to your country? You can find it on there.
@@sallyalter6003 I just now tried Amazon and they can deliver to me but the price is US$120 to US$200 for 1 gallon. Nothing less than 1 gallon is available.
@@edwinholcombe2741 Edwin, to be very honest with you I would not glaze anything again. I did two of my cabinet doors yesterday and they look awful, just dirty looking. In fact, I have just painted over them back to the original color. Unless you are certain I wouldn't use stain. Wood stain is entirely different as it is for raw wood, not painted wood. Think carefully before spending all that money. The can in this country is US $18.99 plus postage $25. I am sending it back. Amazon take everything back, by the way, even if you have used it, or at least they did for me once when I painted something and the color was not what I wanted. It would probably be too much if you had to pay the postage. Also, I wouldn't think you could possibly use a gallon, you could paint the whole room with that. It goes a very long way. Just think carefully before wasting your money.
@@edwinholcombe2741 Edwin, I seem to remember writing this before, but I wouldn't think it is worth it to pay all that money. I did try staining my cabinets, but had to paint over it again because it didn't look nice at all. It just looked dirty. Think twice, unless you have faith and lots of cash. Sally
It looks great!! Now do you have to apply a polyurethane or just the glaze? Also I have a table I want to paint a pretty Seafoam color. What color glaze would you suggest? We are painting cabinets soon but we are doing two toned..White on uppers and dark Navy on bottom with brass hardware. I love DIYers!!! ❤❤❤
Hi... Thanks for the video. The kitchen looks good. I have three questions... 1) how has this held up? 2) would you do it again? 3) were the sides of you cabinets real wood or a laminate printed paper? I hope you see this... since it's been a while since you posted this
1 - We sold that house about 5 years ago, so not sure. 2 - Definitely not, I suppose that is the risk of going strong in a single design/color direction, you could wake up one day and not like that anymore. The kitchen in our new house is white, and we really like that. 3 - It was real wood. I had to sand them down.
