Just fyi, before buying new o-rings check to make sure yours didn't just come unseated. This was the case in my Moen single handle faucet. The o-ring had partially come out of the groove of the plastic piece it sits in but was otherwise okay. I suspect pivoting the faucet from one sink to the other unseated it over time. Reseating it fixed my leak.

There was some moldy-looking stuff where the faucet base meets the sink and I used a toothbrush to clean there. It leaked for a little bit and now stopped. Why would it stop leaking? @SkyManagement

I’m stumped on that one. Any moen single handle tap that I have ever worked on uses o rings for the seals on the faucet. If there is none then the only other seals in it are part of the cartridge. @SkyManagement
@SkyManagement Год назад
You don’t have to. But, when rolling the o-ring down if you put the top one in first, the bottom one can roll over the top of it without getting stuck in the groove. Probably more important when removing them. If you do the bottom one first, it can pass over the top one. Without getting stuck in the groove and have to dig it out again.

This is a very helpful video and I'm set to order O rings from amazon. I don't know what I'll do with all the Os that aren't a fit...make Christmas tree decorations? There is a whole lot of grunge where the plate meets, or is supposed to meet, the counter. in my kitchen I'm not sure if the tap is leaking or if it's splashing water that's causing it. Any ideas?
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 3 года назад
The link to the o-rings in the description shows how to measure them if you want to order individual ones in the size you need. We have multi-family properties, so having extras around is never a bad thing. Lol If you are getting calcium build up around the base, then i would guess it is probably leaking. Especially if you live somewhere with hard water, this is extremely common.

At 3:50, when you slip the last o-ring on the top spout part, was that a new o-ring, too, or did you just replace the other two? (I know it's best just to replace all of them if you're repairing it, but was curious because I'm not sure my repair kit came with that third particular o-rings.) Thanks!
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 2 года назад
That ring is a plastic one. Some repair kits come with replacement ones, but it’s not really a seal. It sort of just helps guide the spout when you spin it. I typically reuse them unless it’s broken for some reason.

It is possible that it would need a new cartridge. If you replace seals like the video and it is still leaking... it needs a new cartridge. Turn water off before you replace the cartridge... :-)
@canadianjaneoriginal
@canadianjaneoriginal 3 года назад
Sky Management I followed the steps but the handle will not come off! I am stuck on this part because if I force would something break? I checked and the one screw I took out did nothing. Its a cheap Waterpick one lever with spray detachment nozzel. Its ok if I need to change valve and seals, if only I can get it off :(
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 3 года назад
The handles can be stuck on pretty good sometimes. If you have removed the set screw then I would wiggle it and try to force it off. (Make sure the water is turned off) The worst that would happen would be the top of the cartridge could break off. But, if you think the Carthage may need to be replaced anyway, then that might not be a big loss.
@canadianjaneoriginal

Sky Management the handle finally came off pulling upwards hard. The rest was stuck. Nothing was getting anything to budge. Cartridge cannot be removed its inset. The geniuses did not put a hex to remove it or anything the screws off.

I’m confused I bought the o ring set u linked and they all seem to small even tho my faucet looks like the one is this video? Am i missing something?
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 2 года назад
It can be confusing which is why we linked a universal set that should cover most faucets. There are many single handle tap faucets that look “similar”. I would think one of the larger o rings in that set would work. They are meant to be a tight fit so you might need to stretch them over the top so they slide into the channels . When in doubt you can remove one of the rings and take it to a local hardware store and they should have something that would work. I’m sorry you are having issues.

We would recommend Turing the water off. Especially if it’s your first time. If it’s a Cartridge style like the one in the video, then you technically don’t have to. If it’s the older style that uses a ball valve, then you will need to turn the water off.

I have a Price Pfister faucet myself. Looks very similar. Mines leaking above and below the spout connection. Took everything apart but I can't see to get the spout off. I yank and pull up on it and it moves maybe a 1/16" of a inch up and down but doesn't come off. I've tried tapping it up with a wrench and still no luck. The spout spins and moves super freely but no luck getting it to come completely off. I am still waiting for Price Pfister to get back to me with the model number and replacement parts as its under the lifetime warranty.
@SkyManagement

I have had them be pretty stuck before. I usually just wiggle the neck up and down until it breaks loose. I know that’s a real technical explanation. Lol. If that doesn’t work, you could try shooting some wd40 in there. To help loosen it up.

@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 2 года назад
Yes! Most of the time we have to fix this issue it is because a resident has seen water dripping under their sink. Water comes out around the collar or “neck” of the sink and runs down and finds a way underneath . Ultimately dripping down below. If your sink has water coming out around the collar while on… this should take care of you! Good luck! 🍀

Make sure the water is off in case you have a ball joint style, then you can tap around on the ring with your wrench or something to hopefully break loose any build up. Then if you still can't get it, you can use a pipe wrench, but I'd put a towel or something around it because it can tear up the finish on it pretty easy.

There are different diameters and thickness depending on the brand. The easiest thing to do is remove the old ones first and take them to the hardware store and compare them to the new ones. Any hardware store should carry a variety of sizes.

How do you know what brand faucet you have ?what size o ring used ?
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 4 года назад
It’s best to remove the old ones and take them with you to the hardware store to match them. But if you are going to order them, you could try to measure the diameter. There are also variety packs that have lots of sizes in them but this would be much more expensive. A single set is only a dollar or two.

@SkyManagement

it could be coming from the o-rings, or it could be coming from the cartridge. it would probably be a good idea to replace them both since you are going to have it apart anyway.

Thank you very much. My husband has one question: "How do you get the hex key into the hex screw on the back side of the faucet handle? I can't see what I'm doing and can't get the key into the screw . . . .. Very much enjoy your choice of music."
@SkyManagement
@SkyManagement 2 года назад
It can be kinda tricky. It’s hard to see in the little hole. I’m not sure I can help very much… you have to have the right size wench (not all faucets are the same) and then just kinda feel around for it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@@larkenbradley6704 There’s always the possibility that the hex screw is stripped or so old and worn that it’s essentially apart of the fixture. If you have a small mirror, it wouldn’t hurt to use it to see exactly what the condition is. There’s always penetrating oil, that should help.

me thinks you should put a food grade grease on rubber o-rings, and also might put a cloth around chrome piece before putting channel locks to it

So what caused the leak? The rings are not of the right size? I have a Moen kitchen faucet installed and in a couple of days this problem began to occur. After a few months, it has gotten more serious! The plumber did not admit this problem and said it is because I let water splash on it.
@SkyManagement

If it started again immediately, then it could be that the seals were the wrong size. The carriage can also leak out of the top and it will look like the same issue. But replacing the o-rings won’t fix it. Here is a link to a video on how to change the Carthage. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C78BQik6-ag.html I hope this was helpful.

If it’s coming from the bottom. It’s probably the O rings. The Cartridges can leak as well. But they would likely leak from the top.

Ok, the hex screw is out. And now, the handle doesn't want to come off. I pulled up pretty hard. I'd just like to understand first what's keeping it together. It doesn't appear to snap in place, so maybe I won't break something by using more force. Good to know, thanks.
