WARNING: I have a TON of brushes in this belt! HAHA so I'm sorry if it got super repetitive I just wanted to go as in-depth as possible in case people genuinely wanted to know each and every brush I have. STAY TILL THE END to see how I clean them :) ALSO... just for clarification, when I mentioned that I'm "getting rid of" brushes. I didn't mean throwing them away or selling them. They'll be kept with my personal brush collection instead.

Wonderful brush kit sweetheart! I might have to get that bag also. I'm very OCD when it comes to my brushes and will only buy Sigma brushes for my kit. I know it dumb and expensive but I just LOVE the Solid polymer-based handles and they last me Forever. It triggers my anxiety if my brushes are different brands. But I Only buy brushes when they are on sale and then I stock up. I'm very partial to Sigma because as a kid when my mother was alive she always wanted them but could not afford them. So I feel like I'm living that dream for her. 🥰💜💜💜

Aww that’s so sweet thanks for sharing that little story :) I’m sure your mom would be so proud!! I too have a little OCD as well but i mostly just go for the shape and try to make sure they have black handles 😂

I am going to miss this series when it is done. It feels like an advent calendar. What do you think of throwing brushes into a cup of alcohol? I remember seeing other MUAs like Wayne Goss saying it works for them. Also, I wash my brushes exactly like you except that I also use one of those silicone egg shape brush pad to sort of scrub the brushes on. I find that this is just the best way to do it though there are at least 3 others ways to wash brushes.
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
HAHA aww thanks! I know it will feel weird on my end not uploading every day (but it is kind of a lot too haha). The alcohol alone would SEVERELY try out the brushes so please don't use it alone. There is no one set way to wash brushes so whatever way works for you :) Just make sure there is some sort of hydrating element to it.

I realise that many people in the western countries use big brushes. I am Asian and my brushes are all at least 1 or 2 sizes smaller and less dense than yours look. It is truly amazing how everyone have their own preferences for brushes and makeup. 😂 This is the video that I did not think to request for but I love! I have never seen any MUA literally taking out every brush and giving them video time!
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
Yes the difference in makeup styles in different cultures is fascinating! I know that in Asian countries makeup is applied more minimalistic and more delicate than western makeup styles. I understand why you would need smaller brushes for this style!

I am at the part where you talk about M.A.C 217 and got to admit that is the universally loved brush. I remember investing in one 217 brush as a teenager and I went out to get two more of that when I started working.

Hi Julie! I enjoyed this vid! It's fun to see what brushes MUAs use. Do you not have to wait until they're completely dry before putting them back in the case?

Love the subject of brushes! Have my fair amount too. Washing them is such a chore, I feel you! I have to use a mat (a dirt cheap one from primark). My hands wouldn't handle the washing without it. Also use olive oil in my mix, which also helps to break down foundation. I find it pretty incredible that mankind is launching rockets to Mars and they haven't come up with makeup brushes you could simply shove into a dish washer and be done with the cleaning/maintaining! Somebody please invent them! There you go: a business idea for a pool of real MUAs 😉
@julieruby

Im a starting pro mua, but I've been washing my brushes since forever with cleansing body oil from the pharmacy (Bioderm Atoderm Cleansing Oil for face and Body, 1 Liter only 13 euros) . It mixes superwell with cream products and will get all the dirt out, antibacterial liquid soap will do the job too...x Belgian subscriber

Hi Julie!It was quite a long video detailed video abt the brushes but I enjoyed watching.Some questions regarding cleaning of brushes.By keeping them upside down,will the shape of brushes get changed or squished? I have seen some brush shaper covers. Would you consider using them for retaining shape of brushes(especially the expensive brushes)
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
Thank you for watching it! I know it was long, but for people that wanted to see ALL the brushes I wanted to lay it all out haha Using brush covers definitely would be helpful! I do find that the natural haired bristles do loose their shape easier. the synthetic ones pretty much stay in their original shape :)

I don't have many brushes, but I'm tall and my sink isn't lol so washing brushes and sponges annoys me. I use 'Zote soap" because it's a laundry/everything soap so I think it removes stains easier and it's a big block so I can use it sooo many times. And I use the olivia rose cleaning mat cuz my hand will die, and I use shop miss a brushes and elf :) low key want more for liner tho
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
OOfff that would be a struggle for sure! I did use Zote soap at one time too and really liked it! I just got annoyed when it got really small and broke into pieces haha!

Hi Jeannette! I definitely should’ve clarified this haha by “getting rid of” I didn’t mean tossing or selling. I’ll be just adding them to my personal makeup instead :) I just don’t want clients breaking out or having an allergic reaction to them.

Can I use any olive oil ??? I hang my brushes upside down from a clothes hanger. I know you’ll think I’m nuts but the clear plastic band I rap on brush then loop over hanger.

How do you tell the natural hair from the synthetic?
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
Great question! Normally I can tell just by the feel of them (they won’t feel as silky) and they also shed. Synthetic brushes won’t shed at all. You can also look up the brush if you haven’t already bought it yet and it should say what type of brush it is in the description.
@chayap.199
@chayap.199 Год назад
The soap is hard to get out entirely. I have to keep rinskng and rinsing until there is no scent
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I don't drench the whole brush in soap just the tip. I try not to get it up into the handle bc soap does stick! If that doesn't work, try the Zote laundry bars. They work really well as alternatives!

@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
Hi Lakeia! I definitely agree with this! I just want to make sure people don't break or have allergic reactions to natural hair brushes in the future :) I also should've clarified.. when I said "getting rid of" I didn't mean tossing them lol I just mean that I'll add them to my personal collection instead of having them in my pro kit. Sorry about the confusion!

i also recommened start packing brushes in little air-tight zip sleeves or ziplocks in those big cases too just so they're extra sanitary and less exposed to dust and pollen etc.
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
Thank you for that! I personally think that the case does a pretty good job at keeping everything sealed and sanitary, but doesn't hurt to be extra cautious!

amen!!! i tried using the olive oil, and dish soap mixture, it never worked for me. There is always oil residue or the brushes are still soap after how many rinses, id have to soak them in water. I use any bar soap to clean any of my brushes now, i do use very little olive oil or use any makeup remover (oil, cream wash) as a pre-cleanse on the tough cream makeup that's stuck on the brushes, and then wash with bar soap. I then spray alcohol 70% on handles and dip eye brushes in alcohol and spray and make sure to soap the face brushes and then I let them air dry!!! I wonder if that's an okay way to clean and sanitize
@julieruby
@julieruby Год назад
That's still very thorough and seems like It would be effective! Instead of regular bar soap, try using the Zote laundry soap. It's huge and works great for cleaning brushes! Very gentle as well since it's supposed to be used for delicate clothing :)
