Thanks for this review Paul! Been going back and forth on this set but got lucky during the sales and was able to snag these for $65. Should be an interesting alternative to my S12 Pro, and an addition to my warmer/bassier sets, the Fudu and Z300. Was interested in the MP145, but it isn't easy to get where I live, plus also concerned about the size and it's also basically twice the price of what I got the Melody for. Will try to report back once they arrive and I get a chance to listen to them!

Very nice deal. Mp145 are nice, but I like the Melody shell.

Subbed, I like how you explain the "why" behind an iem's sound traits. I ruled out the MP145 due to size. I like to listen in bed and those shells are just too big to be comfortable. I'm quiet listener so the melody's exaggerated bass might work in its favor.

Hey Paul, I need a warm set for a few games with a lot of metal banging like the new DOOM games, Metal Hellsinger etc. When it starts sounding too technical, like with my Simgot EM6L, it gets a bit fatiguing over time. Do you think the Melody would be perfect for metal? An alternative I'm looking at is the Truthear Reds.
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
Not perfect, but there is a lot of warmth there in Melody. As I mentioned, they could have lowered the treble a couple db and that would drop it right in the metal zone. It will depend on your tracks but yeah, Melody is a very nice set that should be close to what you want.

@@PaulWasabiithank-you so much for the reply. I just watched your review again and I'm a bit more knowledgeable about audio, and your video was a lot more easy to understand this time around for me considering I'm a newbie to the hobby. You're one of the few RU-vidrs who speak about how an iem fares with volume, which is such an important aspect of IEMs. Thanks again!
@paulosilva8200

I got this too. For loud volumes is great. Once the volume goes down the mid bass over bloated the mids and sounds recessed . At high volumes the upper mids and treble is perfect and so as the mid bass. Looks like everything goes up with volume in the frequency from 2k to 10k and all the rest stays the same. Perfect for metal blasting tunes. Only placed a filter feom mele on the noozle to avoid sweat and push that treble 2 dB down
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
Right, another one where you have to be careful on what source and tips you are using or it gets too bloated. I would have been fine with a couple db less in the bass.

Sorry Paul for being a stickler this early in the morning but the Azlas you're recommending to cut the bass are the Sednaearfit standard, not the short. The barrel extends past the back of the cone on the standard whereas the barrel is flush with the back of the cone on the short. Nevertheless great write up as usual..your the man

Did I get it reversed, I have both grey and blue sets but no boxes and its been a long time since I bought them. I appreciate the correction which I will forget but I am using them with Sivga planar as well so will remember.

@@spamcan9208 for sednaearfit all the cones are the same height..the standard just fit deeper in your canal so you might have to compensate for that with a smaller size to account for the depth..Xelastec by Azla are the best on the market for seal..pretty comfy too..my fav for bass

Would you recommend these over the EA500? I like the Simgot's bass so far but I do find in busier tracks like drum and bass and metal the bass slightly bleeds into mids/clarity. From the reviews I've seen that seems to just be a DD thing, and with the Melody being a warm planar it sounds like it'd be a good compromise. For reference, I liked Olina SE tuning the most, but had to return it due to condensation issues. Hexas were too boring to me but had great detail, and I've just been sticking to EA500 with red nozzle for now since it was closer to what I wanted. Of course, if the Melody also has condensation issues I'll steer clear lol. Other options I'm looking into are the EM6L and the s12, but if all else fails I can just stick with the EA500 cause I do like it, I'm just wondering if there's something that can be a better fit.
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 6 месяцев назад
Melody is a nice one, has quite a bit of bass too, more than EA500. A lot of bass and I am wondering if its too much. S12 Pro might be in the middle. If you can order and return to Amazon, I would try S12 Pro before Melody. S12 Pro isn't bass shy but not Melody levels.

I only used Azla Sednaearfit shorts as I wanted a big bore tip. There are 2 sets in the box, one is big bore, but a bit shorter than the Azla, didn't quite do what I wanted it to do, but give that a shot before dropping $20 on Azlas although I like them very much.

How do the Kiwi Ears Melody compare to the TangZu Fudu Verse as an upgrade to the Blon bl-03?
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 6 месяцев назад
It is a bit split, Melody is closer in bass but brighter upper range. Fudu has less bass but closer in treble. I'd still lean planar though if you have a dongle or dac/amp. Phone would be Fudu

I used to own s12 (original one), and i like it very much, but I can't use it for a long season. In the end, i don't use it much and sell it.. Kinda interested in melody, and maybe pair it with tri clarion eartips.
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 2 месяца назад
yeah, work the opposites. Bassier sets with open tips. Melody is actually V shaped so that may or may not work. Otherwise EQ your S12 or use foam tips.
@joejunior4700

I want a technical set but at the point that's not very bright or fatiguing, so I got Hexa, P1 Max and now this as option. So since it's planar P1 Max might edge Hexa on some aspects but which would you choose this or P1 Max?
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
If I had P1 Max, I wouldn't get Melody as there isn't that much of a difference. I like Melody, but I am not sure its any more technical than P1 Max, you need a set like S12 Pro or S15 which are going to be more fatiguing but more technical. If you want to hear more technical on P1 Max, play with EQ. The planars are all technically capable, but its mostly tuning covering it up, too warm to much bass so reduce it in EQ.

So, which did you prefer between this, Klanar and MP145?…
@PaulWasabii

Melody as the tuning is close enough to MP145 but the shell is normal. MP145 is quite good, but the shell is going to scare off some people.
@Nazguloid
@Nazguloid 28 дней назад
How about compared to the TinHifi T3+? I love the T3 sound, but the shell is uncomfortable for me in longer than 2-3h sessions. This looks comfortable and hitting the same kind of sound profile.
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 26 дней назад
Kinda the same. Melody is warmer and they added some more treble energy at 5k and later. The later treble boost is a bit different than Harman. MP145 is close too, perhaps closer to T3+.

How does it compare to KZ PR2 V1 driven with the right power, as when you reviewed it, (original KBB sound). You still have it yes?
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
This is what I was getting at with the planar not planar. PR2 still had a lot of treble and that planar detail presentation. Melody is more like D-Fi in levels, smooth warmer sound. It is closer to my 2nd PR2, the non-HBB one which was a bit warmer, more relaxed treble.
@kontrolenthusiast1099
@kontrolenthusiast1099 8 месяцев назад
@@PaulWasabii Do you like the non-HBB one better? or just different. I enjoy the HBB version, the treble and Planar detail don't bother me, as you said You've Been Heyday'd (for $40). I had returned a Tangzu Wu Zetian purchased for $110 because I wasn't WOW'd by it.
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
@kontrolenthusiast1099 yeah its different and I don't have a clue if the tuning is what it was meant to be as it graphs differently. It is just a more relaxed version so better in that sense.

Mp145 or kiwi melody? And why?
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 8 месяцев назад
Melody as the tuning is close enough but shell is perfect. Some people will hate the MP145 shell but the tuning is a bit better, less fine tuning with tips. Also Melody is cheaper. I hesitate to recommend MP145 but I do like it very much, but the shell is too much.

hi paul, i’ve been watching your videos in order to look for a warm but still not sacrifice so much technicalities set. i think i can’t stand the cold and shoutiness from female vocal for example as in ew200 and the OG moondrop chu. in this price range what would you recommend to me? melody? fudu? cinno? klanar? or you have something better?
@PaulWasabii
@PaulWasabii 7 месяцев назад
Yeah, congrats on realizing what you like. Sounds like you need more midbass and less pinna, kinda where Melody and Hidizs MP145 sit. Or try smaller bore tips like Final E. You just need to understand that the no midbass, higher pinna sounds cleaner, more resolute, but over energetic and less natural. When you add midbass, you want to do the opposite with tips, open bore to prevent emphasizing bass and smoothing over details. That is why with Melody I said be careful with anything that emphasizes midbass, you want to preserve the clarity that is there.

I am typically going wide-ish bore like KBEAR KB07. Typically doesn't over emphasize the bass which is plentiful here and open the mids a bit. On bright sets, the opposite, smaller bore tips.

Your title is hard to parse. Read it one way and it is Planar, Not-Planar-Done-Right…like you din’t like it. Read it the right way and is Planar-Not-Planar, Done Right, which is, I think, what you intended. I actually had to watch the video to find out which you meant. :)

Some people do clickbait titles, best set ever, and I do confusing titles to make you watch the review to figure out what I meant. Glad you figured it out. No one else has a good term for it, but these smoother, warmer planars trying to distance themselves from the brighter, more typical planar sound.
