I LOVE kiwi birds they are my most favorite bird and animal and I love them so much, it's so sad they are endangered tho. I hope New Zealand will do anything to save the kiwi birds. Tysm for the video very entertaining!
Gee whiz! Can take up to three days to hatch! That's crazy. Introduced predators are a bit tricky, I am researching the little blue penguins (who also live in New Zealand) and they too are suffering from introduced predators. Thanks for another great video guys! Loved the cat cameo too 💚 Shelby
Somewhere in New Zealand there is a town where it's illegal to have a pet cat unless it's registered and neutered or spayed, and no new cat is allowed to enter the town, in order to protect the kiwi!
Excellent video and obviously well researched. Let's hope the numbers grow with conservation and eradication of predators who should not have been in NZ and have decimated Kiwi Eggs. If young Kiwi given a chance will grow to see off the predators and give them a good pecking and thumping with their powerful feet. Go Kiwis!
Beautiful birds... Their eggs are huge...comparatively... They have been surviving a long time without human help ... Some problems are man-made...I'm not sure if this one is... They didn't happen by accident, From the digestive system to the reproductive system, just to name two...it can't be builded by chance... "Think" for yourself...don't let someone else do it for you...
Their eggs are 20% of their size...... That'd be like the average woman giving birth to a 35lb baby...... With the same equipment...... I'd hate to think about how many mommy kiwi's die from complications after an egg literally rearranges their organs
After humans arrived, Kiwis survived better than a lot of other flightless birds in New Zealand. Flightless birds seem to generally have a disadvantage when competing with ground mammals. It seems that flight is the number one survival advantage birds can have.
