I watched the movie for the first time last night and started BAWLING when he said that. Then I watched their reaction, heard the line again + saw Rob crying so I lost it all over again. 😭
i love this movie so so much. It really captures christmas to me also the little girl is Sámi! Sámi are indigenous people of northern europe of the area called Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Maybe you know "Lapland", that's the old name for it but is not used anymore(!). Sámi are known for semi-nomadic reindeer herding! It's traditionally been a large part of their trades. And the outfits they wear in the movie are traditional clothing called Gákti. Sámi people still experience discrimination, so I found it really beautiful to see the representation in this movie!
Great info! Tho I’m not Sámi, I’ve been trying to read a bit more on Sámi people and the right terms and their rights as a Finnish person. Just a little side note on Lapland for anyone curious! While Lapland (Lappi in Finnish) is not used as a name for their living area (Sápmi) anymore, it is still the actual English translation of the northernmost and largest region (maakunta) in Finland! So if anyone were to google Lapland, it’s just the region of northern Finland, but shouldn’t be used as the name of the area of Sámi people! The Finnish translation for Sápmi would be ”Saamenmaa” I believe :) This was additional info just in case someone were to think Lapland is a word not to be spoken about in any context lmao It’s just the name of the region in Finland Sápmi is partly located!
The girl's name is Margu, and I heard something curious about her voice actress. Margu's voice actress was an authentic Saami girl. I also heard that she knew no english at all and most interactions of Jerper and Margu were based on interactions of the girl and the director who didn't understand each other.
Rob shedding tears at the end is wholesome, and was very much my reaction when I first saw this movie. I love this movie, and it's now one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies. I just cannot understand why Netflix has never released it on DVD and Blu-ray. It would _fly_ off the shelves, for sure!
This is a modern classic. I fell in love so quickly with the characters. It's so heartwarming and feels so original. And, it's so emotional and deep. It's incredible. Hope you guys love it.
This is my favorite Christmas animation! The whole idea here is that Christmas existed already but Santa Claus didn’t. Klaus was just a guy with a big heart. It only became this magical thing after.
No matter how many times I have seen this movie, how many reactions, always on the least sentence " I get to see my friend" without fault a tear drips down my face My favorite Christmas movie
Sami people are actually indigenous to the northern parts of Sweden, Norway, Finland and some parts of Russia (called Sapmí). They are the only group of people who own reindeers and they speak different types of sami. The Sami have long been persecuted and subjected to racial biological "research" and now are seen as a minority (atleast in Sweden where i’m from). They were forced to become christian, learn the national languanges and give up their Sami identities. It’s cool to see the Sami being represented on such a main stream platform although i don’t know how accurate it is!
Finland too used to do the same things Sweden did, although probably back when it was considered part of Sweden. But nevertheless, doesn't excuse what those people did to the Sami. I am still happy the Sami do exist, and I hope their culture & way of life gets to live on and grow.
My grandma is Sami, but I am so far removed from the culture and the language that it makes me a bit sad. She speaks both a Sami dialect and Meänkieli, and has a reindeer mark from when her parents herded reindeer.
Love love love this movie! It's spanish produced and directed, I didn't understand how it didn't won the Oscar... Such a refreshing animation and sweet story...❤
I was SO HOPING you guys would react to this movie. Such a GEM. Such a heartwarming story. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Happy holidays, you three!
i absolutely love this movie the first time i watched it my mom and i were both sobbing and then i watched it this year with my husband and he even shed a few tears. this has definitely become a staple Christmas movie in our house and i’m so glad yall enjoyed it too!
One thing I love about this movie is the use of the post office/postman because for a lot of people they make up a big part of Christmas by delivering the gifts that we intend to gift.

i loved this reaction! Klaus is a beautiful movie, almost a classic already!! About the name Jesper, it's a common name in Sweden, just like his last name Johansson
The animation of this movie is revolutionary in the 2d sphere. Almost everything is hand drawn, and the lighting uses a 3D algorithm that not only allows the light and shadows to look like they do, but allow artists to manipulate frames that are off. People are always surprised that it’s 2d hand drawn, and that’s because of how brilliant the lighting is. Sincerely, an animation student
Before it became the holiday we know today, Christmas was just a bank holiday people sometimes used to get a day off. That changed largely due to A Christmas Carol.
It’s been fun watching Christmas movies with you guys. This one was new for me, so I’m def going to watch the full version now. Loving the 25 movies for the holidays, I look forward to your post each day! ✌️🎄
Thinking Klaus is a mischievous Loki type figure is funny. It's just a German name, the English version would be Nicholas, like Saint Nicholas. Not any kind of mythological person
I’ve never commented but it's my favourite Christmas movie with my favourite reactors!! Since Klaus was released, I always watch it on Christmas Eve. This year I’m doing an exception and watching with you guys. Thank you so much for the great content!
I believe the Sámi are an indigenous people in the area of modern day Norway, Sweden, Finland. So, they should be speaking a real language. This is such an amazing and heartfelt movie. Definitely didn’t expect it when I first watched.
I love that I got to watch this movie with you all and your reactions are always amazing! One of the only times I’ve seen this movie was in my Spanish class, where we watched the movie in Spanish with English subtitles. Later I watched the movie in English and it was such an amazing movie, glad you guys get to watch it now!
🎄🎅🐻❄️❄ I really like you guys getting in the festive spirit with the Christmas sweaters and pom-pom hats! 👍☃️ Also, really glad you guys got the chance to watch Klaus! It is such a underrated gem of a movie. The animation style is very unique (reminds me of Tim Burton) and the different origin story of Santa Claus or Saint Nick definitely is better than most. Really enjoying the 25 movies and the mix of Christmas movies and not Christmas movies. Keep up the great work!
The Sami are an indigenous group spread out in Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia. They are their own branch genetically and culturally, so they're not infact inuits nor are the modern day Finns the descendants of their ancestors. The Sami are closely related to Northeastern Europeans and Western indigenous groups of Siberia like the Komi. They only share 25% Neo-Siberian ancestry with the Eskimo-Aleut groups, so their ancestry with inuits is indirect at best. Finnish people on the other hand are derived from 2 ancestory tribes, who arrived from the south and east, and as they spread around the south coast, they pushed the ancestors of the Sami away from the South, to eventually to the Northest part of Finland. I believe the same might have happened in the other countries I mentioned above (Far before any of these countries really existed). The Sami, however, would later on be subjected to cultural cleansing under Christian values around 1600+. A lot of them had to give up their culture, language and beliefs, and they'd learn the language the country used in the bible. They were also probably used for twisted experiments in some parts, but I need to read up on that part.
i ADORE this movie! the animation style is so cute and weird. i love it. honestly this feels like the type of Christmas magic i once saw as a kid. there was this ONE cartoon that would come once a year on a random channel in my country. it was santa who grew up in the forest with fairies. and he made toys out of wood. i specifically remember a cat toy. lol but i remember very little else. ( if anyone knows which movie this is PLEASE let me know! ) this cartoon was the epitome of Christmas feelings. i don't know what it is about klaus, but it provoke those same magical feelings.
Norway, Sweden, Finland and some parts of Russia. (Although Finland is considered Nordic, not scandinavian due to the languages being from totally different branches)
@@swedish_malin There is a lot of debate whether Finland is a Scandinavian country, since besides cultural and historical ties, it also considers linguistic ties part of the definition. The other countries share a Germanic language tree, meanwhile Finland is in the Uralic tree, so I wouldn't consider Finland Scandinavian. The structure of the languages just seem so different to me. But I could see people reading the definition and considering Finland Scandinavian just because Swedish used to be an official first language when Finland was part of Sweden, and Finnish has some loan words from Sweden. I would personally just use Nordic since it refers generally to Northern European countries (And its Finnish translation is literally Northern countries), meanwhile Scandinavia just refers to countries with afromentioned ties.
saami is a real language and real group of people, not fictional or mystical no, it's not an elf language saami (or sámi) are actual, existing people with a real history just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it's not real - there's 6,000+ languages existing today (and many of them are dying, unfortunately) -person with a degree in linguistics who enjoys studying languages and has been creating them for like 15 years
The Sami are the sami tribes and their language is saami. They are spread around northern Norway, Sweden and Finland. And I would like to correct that Finnish people did not come from the Sami group. The earlier form of the Sami tribe used to recide closer to the south, but was eventually pushed to move north due to the arrival of other tribes from the south and east, which would later on become the modern day Finns, some of which would have some Sami blood within them one way or another. "The Sami are most closely related to other Northeastern Europeans and Western Siberian indigenous groups such as the Komi. They are not directly related to the Inuit. But through their c. 25% Neo-Siberian ancestry, which was also transmitted into the Eskimo-Aleut groups, they share indirect ancestry with each other." So the Sami are definitely their own branch, not Finns nor Inuits.
