This video looks at the Dallas Mavericks and why them picking up 4x NBA Champion Klay Thompson to pair with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving scares the NBA
Luka has been out of shape the last 3 yrs. Why do you think they were snatching beers from him in the locker room . He doesnt take his conditioning serious enough. He’s injury prone to say the least and it will be an issue every year until he gets in shape
@@stevenmonte7397 probably better to let him have at least one more year to develop in Europe. There is no point wasting one of his cost controlled rookie years in the G-League.
Ya ppl sleep on that. Just 2 years ago he was a higer rated foreign prospect than Risacher and Sarr both. The #1& #2 picks this year... I see a way better offensive Jae Crowder in his Game with a much Deeper bag but has the toughness and that DAWG in him for sure...
Klay is definitely starting I don't see it as a bad thing at all. He may play 5-6 minutes and one of those hard nose wings that can shoot and play great defense will sub in for him. This is another year that he gets to build his legs back. People like to about his lateral quickness when it comes to his defense. He was never explosive laterally I mean not even close. He played good defense because he was smart and understood basketball. Mavs don't need a savior they just him to hit shots and play timely defense. Even Luka can play defense when he's not getting used and abused by Kidd. You don't need athleticism to play defense you just gotta be somewhat healthy and show good effort. I don't think people realize how much Naji Marshall and Grimes are going to affect this team especially with Lively and Gafford controlling the paint. This team is stacked.
Idk why people keep saying they “gave up/lost” DJJ & Josh Green. they didn’t give up DJJ, he chose to chase the bag. They replaced and upgraded Josh green with Quintin grimes. Ima Josh fan but we’ve been hoping he takes that next step for years and he’s remained around the same. Quintin grimes provides all hustle, better point of attac defender and a better 3 point shooter. I do believe we will miss DJJ but I don’t think nico is done yet. We will not miss Josh at all tho. Not to mention Nani bolsters the defense as well. We don’t need klay to be a superstar. If klay plays the same as last year then that’s enough as our THIRD OPTION. 39% from 3 41 from the floor and he will be getting WIDE OPEN SHOTS. DJJ got the bag he got so many open shots. I’m predicting major regression this year. The warriors wanted klay to attac closeouts, and create his own shot. THATS NEVER BEEN KLAY and def not since injury. He will be playing his position with the mavs. He’s running offball and knoccing down open shots. I would prefer klay as the 6th man, but I trust in Kidd to figure it out. I think a lot of y’all are sleeping on the mavs. It’s gonna take some time to gel and I’m glad they have a whole offseason, but I think they can be special. ESPECIALLY if the secure one final piece wic they have more than enough to do. Derozan said he wasn’t taking the MLE at 13mil, if we can somehow get him on a deal similar to Kay’s then you can guarantee a ring this year. If we can split it and get two players like a miles bridges and Dennis smith Jr then I like our odds. Not to mention we Have Omax on our roster who’s supposed to make a big step this year. If he does then the POA spot is his.
Depending on how things go next year, I think the West will be a 3 horse race between OKC, Dallas and Minnesota. I also feel like San Antonio and Houston could surprise us next year.
San Antonio and Houston are coming for sure. Houston is a year ahead of the spurs tho id say. Don’t count the 3x MVP out either I think MPJ will be on a warpath this year with even more shots opened up
I believe OKC or Dallas will win the west next season. OKC addressed their big man issue with Hartenstein and even added another perimeeter-dawg in Carusso. Dallas however has the best backcourt duo in the league and they are now passing out to the best spot-up shooter the league has ever seen. I wouldn´t be surprised if Klay shoots his highest 3p% ever next season
Dude just regurgitated ESPN talking points on Luka. Everyone in the league complains to the refs. They just have an agenda against Luka. Easily the most hated player by the media. He played better defense all year until he got hurt in the playoffs and couldn’t move anymore lol. Played 70 games plus 22 in three playoffs and had the highest usage rate but were talking about his conditioning? Okay
Should we talk about his effort then? Because there is a point where it is completely unacceptable to do what he was doing a couple games in those finals.
I agree, more was blamed on Luka with three injuries than the horrible performances by EVERY OtHER player. They couldn’t beat the hornets like that much less a super team. And they still won more quarters than they did and held Boston to a 112 off rating. It was the bricked shots that I can’t forget. Wide open bricks. THJ, green, DJJ, PJ, Kai ( in Boston ), Hardy, Maxi. Basically all the players that helped get them to the finals.
@@backyardbuckets829 If you're blaming effort you're implying he's lazy and didn't try to win. Why would he do that? I don't understand how if you watch the regular season you can say it was an "effort" problem in the playoffs. We have eyes, we can see he wasn't 100%, and it's a damn shame he burned out and couldn't be the best version of himself when it mattered most. The Mavs really have to learn how to manage players during the regular season, Luka played 40min+ every game for two month while averaging 36/10/10 in december and january when everyone was injured, he was burned out by February, started accumulating small injuries. It's not sustainable. Same happened to the Knicks, but somehow no one is saying they were lacking effort or conditionning. Weird huh.
Klay he needed another location he needs some more teammates as soon as he get to Dallas his game is going to pick up to a 10 watch. You remember when Dallas and Golden State played in the semi-finals and we used to hate Klay Thompson cuz he used to burn us up 😅
0:42 O'Max will not start. He still needs a ton of work to even get minutes in tight games, much less start. Klay will start, but they will stagger minutes soon after so that only 2 of the 3 stars are on the floor at the same time for the majority of their minutes. They will bring in a PoA defender, which I predict will be Grimes. It could also be Naji, but I see Naji splitting mins with PJ at the 4. I agree with you. I think Naji will be a sizeable upgrade over DJJ. DJJ was only playing 18 mins for a terrible Bulls team. He was a vet min player. Then the Luka effect elevates his worth to an all time high. Naji was stuck behind a deep Pelican rotation. When the Luka effect hits him, I think it will be a much higher celing.
Not so hidden. Dude was puttin in work as a rook. I was most impressed with his energy and communication on court. He's all in and that mindset will get you to your full potential fast
@@backyardbuckets829 lol yea. A good year would be if he could do that as consistently as he use to or even just a lot more then he did this year . He has the ability to do it still I hope . But I’m still worried
How does a bench player from a team that couldn't make the playoffs and is past his prime make them any better. Their defense just got measurably worse and that's what I just got them through the West😅
hell have an inspired good game here and there, hes pretty much a traffic cone on defense now so theyll have to outscore the heck out of opponents to win , and he seems to shrivel up in the clutch now, that ugly 0 point performance in the playoffs last year, thats gonna happen more often
Klay is going to end up slipping in that greasy cheeseburger sweat that Luka leaves wherever he goes and its going to cost him games. Seriously though, what good is a Klay Thompson if Luka holds the ball for the first 17 seconds of the shot clock?
Ur buggin the defense is gonna be better. Klay is a defensive upgrade from thj. In my eyes naji and grimes are defensive upgrades from green and djj. And omax is gonna get a lot more minutes and he’s a great defender.
Naji will not be bodied by a guard like DJJ was against Boston. I love his game but we all know he’s really lanky, the benefit is his athleticism and length, the risk is he weighs 185 soaking wet ( idk really ) Naji is strong and still athletic. A better shooter but not as good as DJJ at lobs. I’ll take the shooting any day.
I really hope Pj Washington is working on his game this summer because he do look a little bit lazy it's almost like he can't push yourself somebody just have to push him it is very important that he work on his game this summer without anybody telling him he's shooting is terrible
It was just 1 game on 0/10, but even Kyrie was 1/13 in the finals or such thing...Luka had many games 2/12 on 3P shooting, etc. If they can glue this roster(healthy) it's a chip next year. 🎉
Fuck no. The mavs are trash. Didn't u just see them get swept? The were horrific. You can't win with Luka as your best dude. That's a horrible example for the rest of the team
@tworley1120 Kyrie didn't have a dramatic drop off in ability like Klay did, he just had lots of off court distractions and people hated on him for not bowing down to the mainstream narrative
Hardy isn’t a bust really, he just hasn’t been given many consistent opportunities to acclimate. If he got traded to a bad team and played 18-25 minutes per game for a season or two, he could become a quality 10-15 ppg bench scoring rotation player that any contender would be happy to have coming off the bench for them. I agree that Omax has future star potential, and that Lively II is a current star with an extremely bright future. I’m so excited to see how awesome Lively and Omax can be in 2-5 years and onward.
