Love the idea of an honest 1 lap review!! Especially for the more affordable starter bikes. Note - there are several more performance based bikes in the GPX line worthy of an honest lap (check out the GPX 2 stroke 250, or their 300 & 450!) Keep 'em coming!!
I love that people bring KLX250 dual sports to a motocross track lol. Just shows that you CAN have fun on anything with 2 wheels. I rode a 1991 DR350S (full street legal) everywhere including the motocross track. Would I pick it if given a choice? NOPE. But run what ya got and have fun.
We have had our share of the Chinese pit bikes. The engines are solid, but bolts, bearings and rims were junk. I am not knocking them, we had a blast. We would buy them again if the price is right. Just need to know what you are getting yourself into.
GPX is different. The S model of this bike has a shorter softer suspension for small riders like women and teenagers, and it uses a 19hp air cooled SOHC 250cc motor with a lot of low end torque. He was simply too heavy. For a rider 150lbs or more, you'd want the GPX FSE 250R, which is now a 300cc with the power of a 250 and the torque of a 300.
Love this! I got an 18' klx250 for my first motorcycle. Absolutely love it, 100٪ reliable over 4 years and 20, 000km. Nothing but oil changes, air filters and a valve check. Edit - Not sure about usa, but mine was 100% street legal off the floor. I rode it home from the dealership.
I"ve had 2 different "250" Chinese full size dirt bikes, they're really suited more to be trail bikes, the quality of components is what you expect, Zongshen engines are reasonable quality, no rev limited on many of them though has led to issues.
A friend owns a 150 version of this, and although it'a pretty heavy and the suspension pretty much breaks my back, it's a pretty good bike, power wise.
I ride a GPX and it's been a solid bike for me. 🤷♂️ Edit: he's not even riding the higher end GPX. Lol He's riding their mid level one. Their higher end one would smoke the KLX. 100%.
This is the street legal dual sport klx 250, with street parts removed. At 5:06 you see a keyed ignition, a keyed steel gas cap, blinker switch on left, and mirror hole mount on the right side. Hes jumping a dual sport bike.
Could you possibly get your hands on a gpx 300 or 450? They are supposed to be better than the 250 and I'm really curious to see if they are worth it. Thanks for the awesome videos!!!
You have valid points. GPX bikes are great bikes. The 250 S is the low end of the bike range they sell. The FSE300r would be a better comparison to the KLX both being fuel injected. The 250s is just a trail bike that is on a smaller frame. All are based off of KTM type frames. I own the GPX FSE450R and there are other who have 100s of hours on theirs and they hold up. Just my thoughts.
The only reason we compared these 2 were the horsepower is roughly the same. The seat height is the same and so is the wheelbase. Both are also street legal.
@@trakstr1170they have 19bhp vs 27bhp in the Kawasaki. The S is also the model designed for smaller lighter riders like women and teenagers under 150lbs. If you want a true comparison, the Pitster Pro LXR 250F would be what you'd wanna test its also a GPX, but its a model that came out before pitster pro changed its name a couple years later . It's a liquid cooled 250 with similar power to a WR250R and suspension that works amazingly well
This was awesome - thinking of getting into dirt bikes (at 50), looking for cheap options that aren't rubbish. FORZA 230 is $4000nz. Similar price to that GPX.
I took the original version of that bike to lake elsinore in 09 and jumped all the big jumps . All the gpx bikes are owned by the same company as pitster pro pitbikes . Gotta try the 2stroke 250 gpx. Its a much better bike and it blows away that klx in performance.
Theres a big market for 110's lately. Would be nice to see a One Lap Impression of a 110 shootout. Also, coming from a 2020 YZ 125, Are there skills to be learned while riding a 110 for fun?
Have a 2022 GPX 450. Solid bike and I love it. Use it for hard enduro and supermoto setup. Wrong two bikes to compare imo, but that GPX 250e is very reliable from what people in the GPX groups say. Would be better to compare against the FSE 250. If we're honest there are problems with nearly any bike. GPX a few loose bolts is something to be mad about? Nah, learn your bike and go around it with torque specs from the groups and maybe some loctite if you're worried. For the money saved it's well worth it to go GPX. Just use some of that money saved for your mods. ;)
I think that Kawi is a street legal dual sport. Around 28-30 hp I believe. They're dogs, but super fun for the price. With a pipe, EFI controller, etc they can get close to a WR250R Yamaha (another street legal dual sport).
My dad and sister have klx 250s , 18 hp tops. Dad's has full exhaust and jetting so his is a little faster , lol but they only hit 65mph wide freakin open
I own both a KL250S and a GPX TSE 250r (the good 2 stroke GPX bike) and my GPX blows the KLX out of the water in every respect. Keep in mind, the KLX is a dualsport for road and offroad use, not a dirt only bike. The GPX TSE 250r is my offroad bike for enduro racing and single track riding. Whatever that air cooled 250 thing you were riding is a terrible representation of the GPX bikes. Try the TSE and I think you will be surprised.
@@MikeHF I had a 2015 ktm 500exc that I sold for $7500 and purchased my brand new GPX for $4250. I'm two years now with the GPX and I don't regret it one bit. It's been a great bike.
Spend an additional 400 to update the suspension, won't get you a great suspension for 400 but a vast improvement. Another 100 on foot pegs and blue thread locker. That would bring the cost to 3500 compared to 6000. Neither are meant to go sailing over double jumps. I see it as a nice around town bike that is capable of riding trails.
What the heck, y have I not been seeing your videos in my feed…? You have made like 10 videos since the Jett Lawrence videos and I have not gotten any notifications (w the bell) since until this one. Grrr RU-vid
I have an older klx250sf and it has less travel and the springs are stiffer and it’s on street rims but I’ve never bottomed it out on jumps and I’ve taken it off some decent jumps
It’s funny how all these moto bros have their crf110 and don’t realize it’s made in China now as well with all their other small CC bikes. We’ll see how they hold up, glad to see yamaha is still making their bikes in Japan.
My first bike was one of those Chinese bikes it was KPX150. They are decent bikes for beginners, but parts are really hard to get ( at least back when I had one.) They also do break quite a bit we started custom fitting Yamaha parts to it🤣🤣. For the price though they are good for someone's first bike that isn't sure they will enjoy riding.
I own a GPX FSE450r and truthfully I won’t buy a Japanese bike again. The big players have left a market behind with bikes reaching 10 k plus. The used market is starting to match those high retail prices. My FSE450 is no Motocross bike but for my areas technical single track nothing beats it. It’s 43 hp and fuel injected. I couldn’t ask for better for 5500.
@@ethancolby1972 I see your point, but I still couldn’t get myself to buy one. I got a ‘14 yz450f with KYB suspension for $3000. It has 58 hp, and I’ve put over 65 hard hours on it so far, and it still runs amazing.
@@jamesdecker4166 I get what your saying but the GPX is street legal from the factory and has long service intervals. Yes the yz450 is a better performing bike, but a lot of people don't want to change oil every 500(?) miles
@@ethancolby1972 And the reason bike prices are high at the moment is because of the china made Covid19...try selling your china shitbox and see what you get for it, you don't save in the end.
I was going to buy one of those Chinese bikes as a pit bike to mess around in the pits with I hear the issue is getting parts for them... I think if you have 3k to spend your probably better off getting like ttr230 crf230... at least you know there will be support always.
You can order parts for GPX bikes on Rocky Mountain ATV's website not to mention is easy to order parts from the manufacturer also. If you get The TSE 250r 2 stroke, most of the parts are direct replacement from KTM and Husky, forks are all Showa internals, engine is Yamaha. It's incredibly easy to get parts.
After watching this I'm so glad I don't have to ride stuff like that anymore. that said not sure I would not be lapped by AJ on either bike vs me on my Beta
@@Sn0w1981that bike had a 250cc air cooled motor. 19hp isn't bad tbh. A simple nibbi pwk30 carb gives you a noticeable gain. My 2016 LXR 250F makes 40whp with its 300cc big bore, performance piston and cam, and 5% port and polish. It eats KLX 300s and Husqvarna FE 250s
My budy hade a klx 350 from 1998 and it had good power but when it was hot it dident like to start and when i was parked the carbs would flood over and gas would go every where with the electric start its a big plus i dont rember his klx being soft suspension and i rember it was realy fast
Im thinking the market for both bikes is trail riding not racing, or maybe a cheap duel sport/small adv bike. Im interested in the long hall motor test, but you can buy a crate GPX motor for 800 bucks I seen. Id say both are good for an older rider who is not so much worried about going fast but just going. at 3700 the chinese bike would fit in the trail riding market fine, but I have always liked air cooled 4 strokes along the line of the XR250,
Honda and Yamaha built motorcycles in China for the SE Asia market. Some companies started making knock offs that are hard to spot as knockoffs. Does the GPX look like a knock off or an original? 1990s air-cooled, the patents probably expired. What about parts?
Be fun to compare these bikes to a proper pitbike on the same track when you test them. So two full size ride comparisons and a time comparison against the pitbike.
I don't think I'd spend $3K on a bike that felt like it was going to fall apart when I rode it. It might actually fall apart while I rode it and do more damage to me than what a real bike costs.
3 lap impressions are better because 1st lap is all about figuring out the quirks... KLX is a nice beginner play bike/dual sport, Chinese bike can be improved some but typically because of build quality won't last as long as the KLX.
Here in the Philippines we have the same bike (kry 200 or krz 250)... For us here this bike is a trail hero, it gives us a bike to practice around without caring for maintenance.. ride till you get good at it .. And if breaks buy a new one or learn how to fix the bike all in all a good traine Funfact it breaks after 5 rounds of hard trashing if you survive, this things have very bad suspension
What's the difference between the motorstar msx 200 and the russi? My daily driver is a Yamaha aerox. Just don't have the budget for a name brand bike. Need something that I can put a rear foot rest like the Yamaha ytx has so I can carry a few 20 liter water containers and still use it on rough roads. Local metal shop should be able to make something to carry water. I'm 64 and raced motorcross in the USA when I was much younger. Once it's in your blood it's hard not to ride a dirt bike. What would you suggest for a cheap china dual sport? I live on dinagat island and girlfriend does not like motorcycles, that's her problem not mine 🙂
@@mikga45 its the same performance wise for both its just the styling what looks cool and whats not, but utility wise the motorstar msx150 sr takes it for me it has bigger seat than the rusi thus more comfort when long riding.
Too funny. You're braver than I am, I had a klx250 a few years ago, the dually version, and I was not confident enough with it to go around our track with it. Just not enough power to clear doubles with. That said, I would certainly pick a Japanese bike over a Chinese one, much better build quality.
What isn't manufactured in China these days? Maybe better assembly of pieces and parts and stricter quality control in the factories producing products for Japanese bikes, like Honda? They all look similar and parts are most likely interchangeable, for the most part, with the Japan OEM bikes.
I’ve been testing one for a year. I love love love it. I’ve taken it to Moab, Baja, and ridden it extensively on single track and fire roads in SoCal. Zero regrets.
The 250 xcw feels way more like a motocross bike. The klx feels like an enlarged pitbike. The XCW is probably 10x faster than the klx and has 10x better suspension
The KLX is a Dual sport bike that can be ridden from your house to the trails, not a fair review if you don't understand the purpose of the bikes.....like doing a Ferrari review in a carpark.
It sorta the wrong Chinese bike for the comparison. The motor is a 230cc which means really it would be best compared to a ttr 230 or crf230. They actually make water cooled 250cc 300cc engines and bikes that are nock offs of the klx250 and klx300.
I’m the owner of the gpx fse250s and it’s honestly that bad! The suspension is old 80s open cartridge technology, so although it’s slightly faster, it’s crap!
@@trakstr1170 okay now I see the difference is the S model does not get the goodies that the E model gets...My Orion is more like a GPX FSE 250 E ...Thats not really comparing similar bikes...The GPX S model is smaller with less suspension.
@@Dirt_Bike_Dave actually, the fse250s with the 21”/18” wheels is the exact same thing as the new rxb250l that is coming out. It’s got the same amount of suspension as your bike, plus the updated 249cc Zhongshen engine. Once you ride a Japanese 4 stroke, you won’t look back at these!
@@trakstr1170 , same size give or take, maybe a little bit smaller....if your talking engine..I have a big bore kit on so now 240cc with 13:1 compression..putting out 32hp...smoke GPX 250.
should do the rides blind mounted. i feel like every similar video the chinese knockoffs always gotta be better just to be judged as even. those chinese bikes are good for guys who just want to explore trails and will never catch air or hit the higher revs in third
I affectionately call my kx450 Charlie runkle 'pussy fart' because I much prefer the sound of my Yz250 2t.. But still I couldn't have one without the other
@@guyonthecouch136 I too really enjoy the pleasurable sound of that ding-ding-ding on idle and those screeching sonic waves that leave the silencer as the bike rips up and down a track. However, I find it weird how nearly every hardcore 2t fanboy I come across says that all 4 strokes sounds like constant farting. I sometimes hear it in a few bikes, but can't force myself to imagine all 4t's sounding like that.
