The original members of Klymaxx reunite on this VH-1 special from 2004. However, it's not all hugs and love. Cheryl Cooley trademarked the band name for her exclusive use, and the girls are not pleased.
Man....I remember when this 1st came on.....This was the ultimate for me....It was great to see the ladies back together again....Then Cheryl had to ruin it....And Bernadette, the Diva herself....❤️ Her!!!!
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I love any tips you can give me
Out of all the ones that's aired, this had to be my favorite. I guess because I'm a true SOLAR head and the FACT these very ladies did the damn thing!!! The legacy forever lives on!!
July 2018 - I'm here!! Still jamming out to Klymaxx!! Oh and I sure did play Meeting in the Ladies Room for our morning song at work!! My mom hand the album and I was maybe 6 or 7 when I hear them for the first time. I still bump KLYMAXX!! These ladies were a head of their time then and still slay by today's standards of female artist !!!! These are the original ones!!! Right here!! I remember watching this episode too 💕💕💕 Ladies of KLYMAXX - you have a lifetime fan here and I play this for my nieces. Your work will ALWAYS be EPIC!!!!
Klymaxx is one of my favorite Girl Group, Miss Bernadette Cooper is no Joke ans she is the One that birthed out this Group. Miss Cheryl Cooley Give the group back there name ,
That's because cheryl cooley is a sellfish, greedy, gold digging low life snake that stole from klymaxx and put out that FAKE ASS klymaxx that didn't look nothing like the original. cheryl cooley was wrong for throwing these ladies undet the bus.
Elder Randy G, Newman True. Bernadette is down to earth. I used to see her Everyday for a year in Jersey City until this came on VH-1. I went crazy. I told my moms this the lady i see everyday. She had a clothing store there. Very nice lady.
Wait what?! They all walked away from the group... they can’t be mad at her for being smart and wanting to continue even if it meant without them. 🤷🏽♂️
@@annmarieclarke9107 Cheryl does not have rights to those songs. She claims to have written songs that Lynn Malsby wrote and wanted all the royalties to the songs. Wow! The nerve!
@@nancydaleo3359 She also tried to take credit for songs that Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis wrote for them as well as take credit for songs that Bernadette and Joyce wrote. Well the ladies informed this organization about that and they used a photo of the original line up instead of the photo of Cheryl's group. Joyce plans on releasing her memoirs next month and she posted a chapter about Cheryl taking the name without informing the group on Facebook.
@@MUSICENCYLOPEDIA There is a legal distinction where the name can be used but the billing has to be Joe Blow and Klymaxx. Joyce also has a touring group with this distinction also. As far as getting credit for Jam and Lewis songs, their business is in order, she can say it verbally, but no money will come from it.
I would be pissed too if I put my blood sweat and tears in a group and all my trust and one of them back stabs me and steal my brand with out my consent and show no remorse yeah I would be pissed too. I respect Cheryl Cooley but that move there was wrong. I don't blame them for not wanting to work with her. professionalism went out the window when she took it upon herself to trademark the name
CICI38109 Yep. I think they maintained their cool and dignity when having to face Cheryl and what she did. No apologies from her, I would've cut it short too. She was so smug 😕
@@francismarasiganiii4549 Good Morning. Ralph and Johnny had got ownership of the name and now all 6 members own the New Edition Trademark, Plus Bobby Ralph and Johnny also got their spin of group's name The Heads of State legally trademark as well
I LOVE ❤️ THIS DOCUMENTARY ❤️ I love Female Singing Groups. All of these ladies rocked Shots out to Bernadette Cooper for her vision and dream without her none of this would have come to fruition I'm working g on my own documentary about female groups and this one inspire me in so many ways thank you for posting
I never compliment host of shows but the host Aamer always did an excellent job. He did his research & was never insensitive to those he was pursuing. Everyone remembers the Cheryl Cooley theatre from the show as well as I do. However the most dramatic moment for me was when Aamer first got the chance to speak with Lynn Malsby on her 9-5 job. She was on a smoke break & he asked her what the composition of the song “I miss you” meant. You could see the song meant a lot to her & was very emotional, was about the one that got away. Every time I hear the song I think of her response.
Bernadette Cooper was the biggest personality of the group, almost like a female version of Morris Day. Then I would say Joyce Irby after the success of "I Miss You." The interesting thing about Klymaxx is that Lorena Shelby was not the standout member despite being the primary singer, in my opinion. And if anyone should have been the person who owned the Klymaxx name it's Cooper, who assembled the group and came up with the name.
Wow. 2004 I remember when VH1 showed this episode literally everyday around noon and it was that long ago. Goes to show you how the days are going by faster..I still have this episode on a VHS 📼 tape..
I would sneak and play Klymaxx's record on my parents' record player as a kid!!! I LOVED those ladies!!! They all look really good now and sound great!!! Bernadette looks a lot like Josephine Baker!!!
I think that Bernadette acts like Morris Day of the Time. She made the group Klymaxx she was the entertainer of the group just like Morris Day was the entertainer of The Time. So therefore they made the group. But I both groups anyway.
Still always and forever my fovorite female band. Love them to pieces. These are our seniors now. Oh the stories they can tell their grandkids...love them
I loved and still love this group. I had no idea their genre was funk. I just listen to whatever I like that sounds good 5,10,15 years after it charts. They look good like grown women that's comfortable in their skin . That's a good thing
I love these ladies, my personal favorite. So sad as a fan to see what goes on behind the scenes, but hey it happens with the best groups in history!:)
Bernadette should write an autobiography and how women can empower themselves. Be confident within themselves. She is a unique person and is unafraid to speak her mind. I love the way how she spoke to Cheryl.
@@rashawnda-professor2999 good to know. Maybe she’ll add how she’s still legally trying to block the other ladies from using Klymaxx in their titles at all, i.e. Joyce Irby & Klymaxx would just be Joyce Irby. And it’s 2024. She won’t stop. If Cheryl has it her way, you’ll only see “Klymaxx” associated with her band spinoff; not even Bernadette would be able to use it. Anyone who supports her is contributing to the demise of the band’s Legacy.
When I saw this one was happy to see all the women coming together and put their differences a side the down side of the music business like always it definitely breaks up groups and friendships
I use to crush on Bernadette so hard back in the day…Not just because she was cute but she just had a vibe around her that was just too cool for school…
Bernadette is the QUEEN..and this group showed me that women can ROCK out.. and be awesome.. to see women of color with so much talent..is and was AMAZING. I would go see them in concert.. and I wish the volume was LOUDER..but it was still nice to see them..wow..2004..Time for another tour..its been 15 years!!
For years just a kid i enjoy there music while growing up in the 80"s with the man on pause and meeting in the ladies room and watching them on soul train every saturday after cartoons it brings me back to when kids did have a favorite band and imatate there every look ....lol but what i didn"t realize after seeing unsung it was some trouble with the original members that really didn"t take kind of what cheryl did and burnadette wasn"t happy about it because what she said on unsung that shes the founder of the group and she establish and created it .....i don"t blame her not one bit she was the one and other members too that put there hard work and honor in this group to keep up on the projects and to keep the name from somebody using it cheryl was wrong to form a new klymaxx after i notice joyce lynn lorena robin and burnadette wasn"t ....it broke my heart to find out from other band members on what cheryl did ......its sad that it ain"t the original
This is what happens when fame, fortune, comission, profit and money can tear a group down. I love the group Klymaxx when this female group made great hits, However I don't like the fact of what Cheryl did to them taking the brand of the band. Once when that trust is broken, It's hard to get that trust back and there's no telling when the healing can be restore. That's when I tell people that life is too short and you can be here today and gone tomorrow so enjoy life while you can and fix your life and take it to the man upstairs because he's your soul provider.
He tried the same thing with The Commodores and it didn’t work. I guess for The Commodores egos and bad feelings. I really, really wanted to see that happen. We lost one of the original members a few years ago.
@@kayandaeddings4803 Well the commodores have another name, it’s called “Lionel Richie”. Because let’s face it he composed ALL their hits. Even the one they had after he left, ‘nightshift’! There is another name for the commodores as a group WITHOUT Richie, it’s called “yeah right as if”😁.
@@averydaymond1560 well, like Chris rock said about Jennifer Lopez, she’s The Commodores and her ass is Lionel Richie. Do you remember that from his monologue from the MTV video music awards from 1999?
I saw this back in 2004 and it made go to the music store to buy the greatest hits CD Oh yeah these are the real divas that needed love too, and are we gonna sit there and not noticed a cameo of MC Lyte at the 17:00 mark lol
In any relationship, it's the first person to say I apologize who's the one that seizes the initiative. It's more important to demonstrate love than it is to assert one's 'rights'
Wowww... talk about a walk down memory lane. My military days..... Music like this helped me keep the little bit of sanity I was left with, lol. I’d wondered what happened to them. I would have lovvved to see them perform. Bernadette tho...she is still a hoot, lol, and the real deal. Love her!!!
I wish we could get the entire episode of this. I loved this band n still play all their hits. I miss u n I'd still say yes was some of the sweetest ballads ever. Lorena lungs n Bernadette were my favs because of their personality, talent n style. I don't think the issue with Cheryl was that she was working n using the name, the issue was she lied n trademarked the name. Bernadette started the group,it was her creation n baby,so I get why it was more personal to her. They all deserved to keep working n Bernadette did leave the group. The shady thing was lying n saying noone else had any claim or rights to the name. When u use the name u trick fans to thinking they r seeing the original members ,so it is fair she add Cheryl formerly of klymaxx so fans know they r just getting 1 member..........Shannon b
Good Morning At the end of the day they all started out together as a band and it was emotional for all. Lorena, Joyce and Lynn gave Cooley a hug as to stay we don't like what you're doing but we started out together and it was done as a way to move on.
