The New York Knicks passed on Kyrie Irving but are not doing so with Jalen Brunson. The Knicks are reportedly all in on signing the former Dallas Mavericks point guard, trading Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks to the Detroit Pistons to clear up cap space. They can now offer Brunson a four-year, $110 million deal. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes debate whether it is a good idea for the Knicks to go all out on Brunson or not.

Kevin Wildes is right. Brunson had 2 timely games with Luka out, but it was against Donovan Mitchell's sievelike defense and it's wildly inflated his value. He made a step forward last year, but Brunson's a liability on defense and I wonder how that will mesh with Thibodeau.

Over his Career (all 4 seasons) in 44 games without Luka: 16.6 PPG /6.3 APG /1.8 TOPG while shooting 48.5%/37%/79.5%... People just dont understand, that Brunson is an extremely efficient playmaker if given the Chance. In Dallas, next to or behind Luka, he just never had the chance. His role is completely different!

No... no it doesnt! In your opinion, what is a reasonable contract for a 20.5/7.5 reg Season starting PG who can also average 20+ in the Playoffs? EDIT: Brunson is as big as CP3, Conley, Lowry, Garland, VanVleet, Rozier, Mitchell, Beverley... So whats your Point? He is still WAY more efficient around the rim and in the paint then 95% of all bigger guards. Please name all Guards who shot over 70% directly at the rim and over 52% from floater Range (3-10 Feet)... belive me, its a short list!

As an avid Knicks fan this screams Knicks blunder incoming……BUT with that being said I don’t think is as horrible as everyone is making it out to be. In a world where the superstars ala Steph, Dame, Giannis, etc are making 50 million a year paying a young up and coming PG to help build a winning culture 25 million. Granted they have the highest payroll but that’s what it takes right now to be in the upper echelon of the league unless you signed guys earlier to team friendly deals ala dejonte murray etc.

This would be a great move for the Nick's with the cap up to 50 mill max he gets around half which to me is a third tier all star level player like for example a Al horford level player in his prime. 110 mill 4 yrs not bad. If they pull this off. My question is do you have to keep Randle? Is there a trade. Best randle trade options top 3 each conference East Bulls- they could use a younger player at power forward or Center Randle is younger than vucevic and really better suited as a third option and primary low post scorer on a team. Can rebound score in pick and roll. Capable of being better from the three. Hornets- I'm not sure what there going to offer bridges but if you sign him and can trade for Randle he isn't a center which they could use but he gives them another scorer who could play of LA Melo and take rebounding pressure off bridges. Maybe you get rosier out the deal. Heat- bam has shown he isn't a score minded player randle could play pf next to him at center and give you another scoring option that could play off bams passing ability and maybe the heat could offer you cap relief and a 1st rd and a player West Clippers- clippers maybe getting Wall but that could use pf that can either score and rebound. Take pressure off Leonard as rebounder They have multiple guys Powell Covington could be good pieces for a developing roster Trailblazers - Nurkic is a better center than any Knicks center they could use another scorer with Dame and Simmons and you could probably get Nurkic on a short 1-2 yr deal plus another player Mavs- if they lose brunson randle would be a good trade piece to pick up as another scorer and they have some interesting three and D guys you could get back

The Knicks aren’t going to regret it. His stats alone without Luka were really good and efficient. Also the Knicks are going to have to give extensions to Rj next season and other players so it’s a matter of whether or not they want to operate as an above the cap tam or below the cap. If they don’t add a contract now and then go above the cap to sign RJ then it would be more difficult to improve the roster moving forward

In my opinion he did really well when Luka was out because the mavs could run the same system, put the ball in Brunsons hand and a bunch of shooters surrounding him. What’s it going to look like when the team isn’t built around him to succeed like that? You’re going to have randle and Barrett and maybe another poor shooter out there which will highlight his flaws as a mediocre shooter.

Yeah - Brunson is not worth this money, but let's face it - if Knicks would not make this deal then everyone again blame Knicks that they did nothing in free agency! Since 2015. when they drafted Porzingis (in my opinion last drafted player who was a game changer for Knicks since 2015) - they have terrible draft picks - Nitikinla (already gone to Mavs), Kevin Knox (already gone to Pistons), Obi Toppin - please!!! Ok RJ Barrett is solid player but sorry he is not even close to become a star player!

It's a solid pick up end of story. Especially when you look where the Knicks are at. They're not trying to swing for the fences and strike out. They are building a young team that can hopefully start competing with the rest of the league young talented teams. Teams like the hawks, hornets, grizzles etc.
