Seeing your collection makes me feel alot better about my thirty or so I own-I don't know about you,but I sure hope my wife never finds out what I've spent on my collection!
Dude I’ve watched hours of knife content over the years....(including a ton of your videos) and without a doubt you have the best collection I’ve ever seen awesome man just priceless 🤙🏼
This video kind of proved my theory that the joy is in the journey and not the destination. When you can basically have any knife in existence by just reaching out to the maker, the joy when you have it is not as high as when it was quite the quest to achieve getting your hands in one. To the point you can't even remember the names of the knives and aren't that excited about them. Kind of bittersweet when you get to the destination IMO.
I'd somewhat agree, but only on the knives in the bottom drawer. I could have potentially better prepped for this video and made sure I looked up every model name first, but I was trying to get it done asap, because I then had to edit, render and upload. I agree, in that the journey is potentially sweeter than the destination. However, there are many knives I would enjoy owning, but are well beyond my reach. Perhaps someday they won't be, we shall see.
Thanks for watching. Fortunately or unfortunately, this collection is nowhere near 100k. If someone wants to write me that check though, they can have it! 😂
Just when you start thinking about getting into knife making. Here is your competition! 🤯 Good luck! Yeah nah yeah, this is likely the most beautiful collection of folders, that I have ever seen! Bravo, my friend...bravo!👏🏼 subscribed
AWESOME COLLECTION!!! Thank you for sharing!!! You just gave me an idea. I have hundreds of folding knives without the box and a rolling tool box with multiple drawers is an awesome way to store them. 🤯! Thank you for the great video!!!🔪🖤🗡
That’s a rare collection Auston. Such a treat for us because I bet that wasn’t easy to get through and was probably mind boggling while trying to remember what the “Smock” model was called (I started to second guess myself thinking it was called the smock lol). Great collection and thanks for the notes in the description.
Do you still keep & store the packaging for each knife you own? Those must take up a good chunk of space if so. Also what do you value your collection at?
I do store all of the boxes in my office closet, does take up quite a bit of space. As to the value, it's more than some collectors and less than others.
AWESOME collection. You've got a great taste (because I have a similar one😄) when it comes to folder knives. I really like most of the designs, although I wouldn't say no to any of them. The custom designs are amazing, but I also like the REATE and WE produced versions, which are more realistically obtainable, for me at least (some of them are unfortunately limited/discounted so..). Thanks for sharing your collection with us, ..beautiful knives indeed🙂✌
Yes my hours on RU-vid go crazy the nights I have had insomnia...that's about the only good part about it! I hate it, feels like my brain is going to explode if I don't get some sleep sometimes... remember to turn your screen on damn so it doesn't hurt your eyes in your dark room bedroom @ night...cheers!
Love how you have a Kershaw Induction with 8CR13MOV, I think they blew these out at around $20 not too long ago. I recently purged some of the "cheaper" knives from my collection and my Kershaw Induction went straight to the "Cheaper Keeper" pile. Its a fun knife to fidget with and has some some interesting design elements. BTW, Great collection you have there.
Thanks for the great video. Just a heads up if you loosen the screw just a little on the tasso's show side top back spacer screw. it will drop like a pm2 with no blade play. In the case mine is a unicorn let me know if it works for you to thanks again
Nice collection wow. You mentioned Millett knives I haven't heard anything about them for quite some time now do you know if there still producing knives?
I know they are tied up with a brand called Survival Knives, who are years behind on production. Millet just did a limited release of a TJ Schwarz design, but they largely dell off the scene.
Good stuff bro. But sounds like you’ve hit a wall with collecting. I hit that wall a few years ago and despite all the great stuff coming from all these new companies, nothing has really excited me like they used to. I was getting a new knife for what seemed like every other week. But the market became oversaturated. Still have the collection and still carry, but I can hear it in your voice 😝. Hope you’re well brother!
That's true to an extent. I'm always interested in what's new, but the last year or two, I've been most excited about repurchasing knives I sold, or missed out on, when they were still in production. Hope you're doing well!
Me too 100%.... as I'm watching I see a lot I missed out on over the last 4 years where I just stopped caring about what was being put out! I kinda wish I hadn't missed that Damascus 0450... I looked it up and it's 2 years old and I didnt know it existed but at 400 come on lol... also I think I traded you that bacon Damascus but I cant remember what I got from you! Haha this is @cardsone1 from IG
@@Cardsone1 Yep, pretty certain that bacon damascus came from a trade with you. Was for one of the Spyderco flippers, and I had you send it strait to Sam, where it sat for about a year before making this knife.
@@EpicSnuggleBunny Yeah! The mantra! Now I remember lol I totally forgot about that knife! I thought it was so cool at the time but when I got it in hand I was underwhelmed and is one of a few knives I've actually sold! I went back in our DMs to look and for some reason the only dms were me asking about trading for the anthem and nirvana ha
Hello Auston, as always your content is excellent. Keep it up. I'll try and make this brief. I know you made a video a while back of "how do you buy knives at a knife show?" at a viewers' request. If it's not a hassle to you, I have a request. Would you be willing (at your convenience) to make a video explaining how to be savvy about buying and selling production/mid-tech/custom knives online via eBay, knife forums or other means of interaction say like a private sale/face to face? I would love to learn from your expertise as I'm testing the waters on this topic myself with no experience, only with my own research and tenacity. If you can, I would be very grateful; if you are unable, I understand. Thank you kindly.
Hopefully they will do a version with a side switch down the line. I'm sure they will in fact. But the demand is so crazy, they don't have time to mix up production right now.
Hello there, Never seen your videos before, but a RU-vid algorithm suggestion made me curious enough to check it out. My take from it? - You, sir, are a dinosaur! I have been collecting knives for awhile, though I stepped away from knife collecting for the past five years, until a fairly recent new purchase… Your video reminded me of the time when Jim Skelton was the youtuber dujour, as your collection clearly shows his (or his pals) influence, because you own so many kitschy, fatso, largely useless customs with funny over-perforated blades. Those knives date your collection to those early heady days of noughties! You know, in 2012, there was a big reset in Swiss watchmaking industry that shook it to the core. It was an aftershock from 2009-10 economic recession. Until then, the money flowed freely and the Swiss obliged by making ever-crazier, over-the-top tasteless abominations of watches that were getting ever more outlandish and ridiculous. And, yet, until 2012 those watches still sold. Then, in 2012, half watchmaking firms went bust, and their ostentatious watches lost most of their value as people stopped buying them. The financial hurricane that ensued, shifted tastes, and whoever of Swiss watchmakers was left standing, went back to making excellently styled good value watches that were done in good taste, as people rediscovered the value of value! Yes, at least for that moment, wasting money on drivel lost its appeal… Well, I stopped collecting knives in 2016 for the same reason: - I felt that whatever was occurring with knives was a repeat of overindulgence that happened in watch industry pre-2012. Almost overnight, anyone and everyone became a custom knife-maker! While it is OK for people to try new things out, there needs to be an understanding that for every ten newly minted “custom” knifemakers there would remain only one standing in ten-year-time, as, despite our shared aspiration to equality of opportunity, some are born with more talent than others, and even among the talented ones, not everyone possesses the therewithal needed to become truly good at what they do. Years are needed to separate seeds from chaff. Yet, the rising tide of momentary fashion lifted ALL of those newly minted “knifemakers”, as their knives became a hot commodity, chased after (!!) as if it was some arms race that collectors engaged in! Skelton and his buddies were among the most effective culprits and enablers in promoting that mercenary side of knifemaking. To their defense - in most likelihood, no one knew better, as everyone was scrambling to get the latest and the greatest and most “bscus”-filled kitschy ridiculous drivel, and not seeing that kings had no clothes… The over-proliferation of custom makers and new firms was not a sign of health of cutlery industry, but a sign of sickness! Anyways, I got so turned off by all that useless “zirkutie”, “timascus” and other “BS-cus” that I sold most of my collection, especially "BS-cus"-filled "dressy" drivel, keeping only ten pieces I thought most functional and timeless… That experience was liberating, and also freed up some finances as a bonus! When I made my recent knife purchase, first in years, I discovered several things: 1) in the interim, I became much more discerning, and the knife I bought, I found immensely satisfying: - for once I had no buyer's remorse, which in itself was ... incredibly satisfying! 2) I noticed that my tastes in knives have undergone a rather profound change, and that I moved on from the types of knives that were peddled by Skelton and co. For example, nowadays I get excited by the new 2021 slip-joint by German-made Boker, where they accomplished a true innovation that was never previously done in a factory knife:- forgoing the steel liners and thus making the carbon-fiber handled knife twice as light as it was. Of course, there are other worthy knifemakers and firms doing interesting, innovative pieces, but, funny enough, one would not know of it from watching your 2021 video! Your collection video was a true blast from the past! I find it surprising that in terms of sensibility and taste, your collection seems frozen in time! Have I seen your video six years ago, I would have loved your collection; Now, to me personally it shows the way how NOT to do it. I speak, of course, only from my personal opinion, without any intent to offend. ALSO, I am sure you have enough fans to counter this opinion. FYI - From all the knives you shown, there were FOUR knives that I thought were excellent - the two Rocksteads, of course ( -My own Shun by Sinkevich was one of the ten knives I kept from my old collection), and the two slip-joints by Johan Ellis. That’s about it. There is also an upside to my opinion !! - I am probably among the very few who are not envious of your collection! Enjoy!
Feel like all those Liong knives are ruined by the logo. Would look so much better without it. Dealbreaker imo. Looks like a moustache on a knife, damn shame too. Good knives overall but that logo kills it.
It was a small run that Reate produced and J.bin_Genex handground/assembled/tuned. Extremely limited, you'll have to try and find one for sale on the used market. Won't be easy to find unfortunately.
@@EpicSnuggleBunny i really like the blade shape! I am trying to find knives with a similar shape but looking up tanto isn’t taking me very far. any ideas or recommendations?
@@EpicSnuggleBunny ah I see that's true! Thanks for the response. Beautiful piece always love seeing his work on IG. Do you have a vid on what makes rockstead so great and expensive?
@@EpicSnuggleBunny i found the Regular Versions at retail online im about to get. Just wondering have you checked out the 100th Anniversary snap-on zt hinder 0392 I think. Its cool and different. I was asking about it to are snap-on guy he said its like $600 lol I said I will just take the super freek .
Yah, dealers had these "custom" Malibu in stock for a bit, and then they exploded in popularity. They sell out as fast as dealers stock them now. Eventually, supply will match demand.
@@EpicSnuggleBunny I hear that. I recently bought back a Shiro I sold many years ago. I think I've owned around 15 Shirogorovs? Somehow I have five right now. Also, somehow I missed the part where you showed your Spydercos. Mea culpa.
