Knight Enchanter vs Highland Ravager - Dragon Age Inquisition

Another older video. This was my first attempt to solo a dragon with a mage. Obviously with the Knight Enchanter(I heard that it was even stronger than this, before some patches, but I only got to try this "nerfed" version)... and of course I picked the Highland Ravager! This one is a bit different. No real offensive elemental damage(other than the occasional energy barrage, because that is just way too much fun, and I need it to charge my Spirit Blade!). But mainly using my sword and the Spirit Blade. So basically the replica of the dual wield mage from Dragon Age Origins.
Nightmare difficulty.

I've put off playing a KE ever since the nerf on spirit blade. Everyone was gushing about "amplified blade" and how good it was. I really disliked it because SB is a combo skill like Reaver's DR. Ever since I restarted playing and testing KE with Viv, I noticed that not picking up the upgrade or using the deflecting blade upgrade is SO MUCH BETTER than amplified blade simply because you have more damage on all 3 swings rather than 1 NUKE of a swing and 2 mosquito bites. Keeping the charges up is a lot more effective without Amplified Blade as well IMHO. KE feels a lot better and more fun that way.

I tried many different knight enchanter builds but none of them come even close to mostly using fire mines. That sword is so damn weak nowadays.

I have a question. We have Fade Shield passive (Knight - enchanter) and Mana Surge passive (Winter). First one is creating a berries. Second one is dealing damage, when the barrier is destroying. Do thay work together?

Okay I’ve been loving your builds and watching your whole playlist for Dragon Age Inquisition. I had a question about why do you always use a “Blade of Tidarion” for the mages? Does it have more damage output or dps compared to the staves or what? Cause I always see the staves having higher critical chance and higher damage but you always go for the two handed mage. I’m just asking because for my next build I would like to do play as a 2 Hand Mage.
@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 2 года назад
Thanks! :) It has a few reasons... First off, I love the Arcane Warrior from Origins, and this blade reminds me of the good old days when in Dragon Age, mages could also use melee weapons. Second: there is no other staff that allows elemental runes to be placed inside it, only the Tidarion Blade. Third: the blade has a unique and really cool effect with Energy Barrage. It will fire 12+12 projectiles if you place a different elemental rune in it than the sword's basic element(instead of just 12 like with other staffs). This allows you to not only have EB as one of your highest damage dealing spells, but thanks to the different elements, you can place different status effects on the enemies as well. For example a fire sword with a cold rune, will cause "burning" and "chilled" effect with EB! A lightning staff with fire rune will cause "shocked" effect and "burning" etc. Using this method can result is astounding damage: if you couple a cold sword with a lightning rune in it, you can have the highest possible damage on fire immune enemies(because the "shocked" status effect also applies -20% elemental resistance on the target on top their -100% cold resistance)! If you couple fire with cold, enemies would need to be dual immunes to cause any problems for you(and there is only around 3 dual immune enemy in the entire game). Otherwise both fire and cold immunes would go down fast, since you have both elements in your weapon - and enemies who are immune to one element are usually weak to the opposite one. And let's not even mention the fact that since it is technically a melee weapon, you can actually gain back mana with every hit just like warrior regains stamina. So I would say, this little sword is one of the best items for mages, even if you can find a few staffs with better slots and base damage. :)

@@AKisHerceg This build could be way better though if you were using a staff. The mage sword is only decent if you utilize it for its elemental barrages

@@Raydr62 Attacks from the sword counts as melee so they replenish your mana with each hit. Yup, the damage from double energy barrage is way higher than any other damage I deal. In my opinion the sword is much better, but if you think the staff is better, go ahead. :) The build works well with a staff too.

out of the 3 mage specs, which one would you recommend in general, like when your out doing quests and such?
@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 4 года назад
Well I can describe each of them this way: Necromancer: Single target damage. Rift mage: Crowd control. Knight Enchanter: Tank. So generally speaking, I would say the Knight Enchanter is the best class, since survivability is not a problem with it, and if you spec your mage well, it can dish out a huge amount of damage. Nowhere near to the Necromancer or the Rift mage, but if you are inexperienced and you want to play with a mage, KE is what I would recommend, since the "almost impossible to kill" is a pretty good attribute to have.

@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 4 года назад
You can check out my set in my very first video called: Rift Mage vs Highland Ravager. I always use the same armor combination with the Blade of Tidarion, because to me personally, it is the best combination by far for ANY mage build that is focusing on high damage output. The only thing I change when it comes to mages, is the accessories, based on what type of mage I build. But here is my equipment for this character: Custom made Blade of Tidarion: Dmg: 113dps 75aoe(cold). 25aoe electricity dmg(lightning rune). +42% attack. 21%critical chance. On hit 5 guard(Silverite Masterwork). Custom Superior Battlemage armor(with the gloves and the boots): +44 Magic, 14% Magic Defense, 64 maximum health. +200% flanking damage -50% attack(Deepstalker Sigil). 10% chance to use Hidden Blades on hit with 5 added hits(Plush Fustian Velvet). Custom Superior Battlemage Cowl with +20 Magic. Necklace: Andraste's Sacrifice. Rings: Ring of Slicing(+5%crit chance +10%crit dmg) and +20% Critical dmg ring. Belt: Belt of the Elements(15% all elemental res). I hope this helps! :)

@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 4 года назад
@@navefernanda8953 No problem! :) I use Silverite for my sword(you can get them from Emprise Du Lion), Dragon Scales for my armor, you can get it from any dragon you slay, or you can buy it from certain vendors(I fill it up with cloth that gives me Magic: Royale Sea Silk, you can get it from the Venatori in the Hissing Wastes or buy it from some vendors or Silken Nether Cloth, you can find this in specific locations in the Frostback Basin including a place behind the Ice Giant). My sword is made from Silverite as well. I used Everite for the Attack bonus, Craggy skin for the critical chance. Both of them can be found in the Frostback Basin: Everite grows in certain places, but it is fairly common and Craggy skin is the material you loot from Bogfishers in the Basin. All of these materials(except the Silken Nether Cloth)can be purchased from the supply vendor in the Deep Roads after you established a base there during the Descent dlc.

Where is your fire mine? The only active you need from spirit skill tree is barrier and from KE skill tree is spirit blade. Your survivability comes from your passives and other dps skills do more dmg than spirit blade with 10 charges. Fire mine does so much dmg that's it's crime not to use it with KE.

@@AKisHerceg I see, so this build is supposed represent the idea. As for your other KE buid, I would switch Fade Cloak with Static Cage, coz Energy Barrage + Static Cage = more dmg. Dmg is the only thing I care about as your tankiness comes from your passives and your mobility comes from your Fade Step. This combo is inconsistent vs bosses though, because they are immune to CC and they can simply walk out out of Static Cage. Anyway, it is not game changing, Fade cloak is still a good spell. One more question: are you using that staff blade simply because it fits the theme of your build? It's been a while since I played Inquisition but as far as I remember that staff-blade has worse stat bonuses. Either that or it has worse upgrades than T3 staff whose name I can't recall now. Correct if I am wrong here. EDIT: Now you make me want to play DAI again. Build my KE from scratch and post some of my own content :D
@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 3 года назад
I do not use Static Cage, because the idea behind that build was to use the opposing elements. That is why it's a Frost/Fire Crusader. :) As I wrote it in the video, I do not use defensive skills, since damage is what keeps me alive. Fade Shield is more than enough if I have enough damage. Fade Cloak is hands down the best spell to keep the aggressive style going. It gets you out of stun, knockdown, makes you invincible and it refills your Barrier(while it causes massive spirit damage) if you re-appear in your target. Other than the amazing ability to use a sword as a mage, I can re-gain mana with each swing and I can cast 24 projectiles with Energy Barrage instead of 12, if I use different elements for the material I make the sword from and the rune I place in it. This makes Energy Barrage(with the Energy Bombardment upgrade) my highest damage single target spell, even topping Fire Mine. All thanks to this "sword-staff". :)

This one seems weaker than the other two mags builds?
@AKisHerceg
@AKisHerceg 4 года назад
Because I purposefully decided not to use the elemental skills, only Energy Barrage, since that is a must for the Spirit Blade. It is a bit weaker in terms of damage output, but it eclipses the other two in term of survivability.

Yes, this is after the nerfs. In fact, sadly I never got to experience the "unnerfed" version. I deal most of my damage with regular sword swings, Energy Barrage(I only use this because it is a must for the Spirit Blade), Fade Cloak(with the Decloaking Blast upgrade) and of course Spirit Blade.
