amzn.to/3JbBGqc Knipex Carpenters' End Cutting Pliers (5001210) are great for cutting, pinching, nipping, & pulling. And in the case of this video, all four in one job. The Knipex Carpenters' End Cutting Pliers open up much more than other nippers but that also may mean less leverage. In this case, the task is to pry and cut barbed wire. Using tools should be fun, and in in this case it is.
The Knipex Carpenters' End Cutting Pliers come in sizes from 160mm to 300mm. These are the 210 size.

Awesome video Doc!!! I think I speak for many when I say we would love to see more field work. Using the tools and then describing the functionality of it. What you like/dislike in the field. 🤙

Best tool on earth for pulling out nails. My dad had a pair of ancient pincer that were probably the most used tool in his limited collection.

In Europe these are used for pulling nails. The Rabitz pliers (similar shape, but much smaller head) that are mainly used for tying steel rods during concrete work are also great for pulling nails. They tend to be better for smaller nails. In both cases the cutting function is intended for small wires.

Beautiful spot Doc. When you started using them as I hammer, I thought I should tell Doc that make them with a hammer function too, the Knipex 51 01 210 Hammerhead end cutters. I think they are the same as yours except for the hammer function, but I don’t have the ones you have. I wish I had a barb wire fence and a stream like though. :-)

That hammer function is so natural. Even if it wasn't there, it would be there.

Nice "real world review," Doc. It's great to see you use the tool _out in the field_ so to speak - quite literally, and on your own property to boot. I again will assert that you are *The Most Interesting Man in America....*

perfect timing, I need a set of these. tbh, cheap Chinese YATO, Huaqi, LTMS branded pincer pliers look more than adequate for the task. This is something I definitely look for value as the performance range is negligible

Lovely spot! Thanks for sharing. Just got a smaller set coming. I was kind of overwhelmed by the variety. Those offset ones look really useful.

After using these on a couple jobs, I ordered the smallest set, 160mm I think. Will be interesting to see if they are as handy.

The pliers that you described as having limited opening are in fact high leverage. I have high leverage knipex 61 01 200 and would have used them to cut straight through the wire you pulled and twisted about. Yet you put the high leverage cutters / pullers aside and used an in appropriate pair of pinchers.

The Knipex are just an ordinary pair of carpenters pincers they are not intended to cut but to grab !!
@IsambardKingdom

These are not intended to be high tensile wire cutters- as evidenced by the difficulty you had

I enjoyed this video much more than your usual tool fondling lol. Keep up the good work. I would be interested to see how those compound knipex cutters worked on barbed wire.

I own several , including a Knipex 51 01 210 with a hammer face ( obviously intended for Euro. Carpenters . I pair it with a 6 oz Crosspein ( called a Warrington in the UK ) , or a small Halder deadblow mallet ) . Way easier to pull nails than a claw hammer ! If you carry a small piece 6 oz leather , no marks !

I carry the pincers daily in my bags they are perfect for pulling nails, staples and pulling or bending sheet metal cutting rope twine electrical wire Not good for thicker hardwire or cutting nails unless it’s 6d or less.

Leave the tree... it's the best thing that could happen to a stream. My ex was a fisheries biologist and he spent years putting trees with their root wads intact into streams to improve fish habitat and help improve streams. The Forest Service spent millions every year doing that to help revitalize rivers.
@sandyk6657

Those seem pretty hard to cut wire with. Why wouldn't you use some diagonal cutters or the smaller Knipex bolt cutters, which should cut that barb wire easily. Seems like would cut close enough to the tree.
@lastbesttool
@lastbesttool 2 года назад
I was using them to pull U-nails so I continued on to the barbed wire to make the video. They were also fairly low leverage compared to my other choices.

I have always thought that pincers are for gripping and not for cutting, cutters are for cutting......
@SirChivalRegal

Yeah . The carpenters pincers the guy was using in the video are good for gripping and pulling nails out. For cutting he would have better luck with the end cutters,the pincers that don't open very much.

Gotta tell ya, Doc, I like where you live. We're thinking of moving to a rural area. Still in NY. A property with a pond. Figure, I'll run the company for a few more years and then sell. We're getting a lot of attention. On a personal level, being treated as a celebrity of sorts is terribly strange. Can't wait to disappear.

Carpenter pincers are meant to pull nails out. The end cutters would do the cutting job better and the bolt cutters even better..
