I'm so glad I found your podcast! I have recently changed to using the Old Norwegian cast on for socks and mitts. I look forward to your next episode!

Thank you 🤗 I just tried the Old Norwegian cast on for mitts and that worked perfectly 😊

I cast on the cuff in a smaller needle and then I knit the rest of the sock in the needle the yarn calls for. So maybe I cast on with a 2.25 and then knit the rest of the sock with a 2.75. It helps with making the cuff not stretch out too much.

Hi Emma, you should try the German twisted cast on for your socks
@theshawlknitter-unplugged1863
German twisted cast on is the best for socks. I think its also called Old Norweigan caston.

German twisted cast on for me! I use it for everything really… hats, socks, sweaters, you name it. Andreah Mowry had the best tutorial on RU-vid in my opinion. ❤ (also, didn’t mind the umms… it’s just the way you talk I think. Didn’t bother me at all.) About the Fabel socks, did you get two socks out of one ball? I have some Fabel in my stash and I was wondering if one ball is enough for two socks! 😊

Thank you ! That's so sweet to tell me that the way I talk doesn't bother you ☺️ The German twisted cast on seems like a really popular one! I tried it after seing the different comments and indeed, I really liked it! I tried it on a beanie and on mittens and it was really elastic it had a nice finished look! About the Fabel socks: for my partner, I used 34 grams per sock so more than one ball for the whole pair with a leg that is 17cm long and a foot that is 26cm long (with 60 sts). I have made him another pair of socks with the same foot length but with only 12cm for the leg and I used 54 grams. So I guess that with a contrasting yarn for the heel, I could have used only one ball 😊 For me, I usually make a whole pair with less than one ball (usually 45 grams) but I have small feet (36 European size) with 56 sts. I hope that helps you to know if one ball is enough or not for you 😊

Salut Emma! :)
@petitvelo
@petitvelo Год назад

Have you tried the German Twisted Cast on? It's stretchy and bounces back to shape.

The sock yarn was balled up in the opposite direction
@petitvelo
@petitvelo Год назад
Ah that explains it! I would have thought that with an industrial yarn, every ball would be the same. Now that you say it I can see the pattern on the two socks 😀

Salut Emma, j'utilise toujours le long-tail cast on pour les chaussettes de haut en bas et je trouve que l'élasticité est bien :)
@petitvelo
@petitvelo Год назад
Ah super, merci ! J’ai toujours eu l’impression que le long-tail cast on n’était pas assez élastique, donc je ne l’ai jamais fait pour les chaussettes. Je vais essayer sur les prochaines ! :)

My English is only with google translator. I hear these mmmm, but it does not bother me at all. The girl is a little embarrassed in front of the camera.

I want to watch and I realize that English is probably not your first language, but maybe when you’re editing you can do like I do, and edit out all of the many many many “umms.” I say “so anyway” a lot. When I edit I remove them. After a while you will become more aware and you can eliminate a lot of the ums.😊
@petitvelo

English is indeed not my first language. I think I'll get used to talking in front of a camera after a while and get rid of some of my language habits (I already tried not to say too much "so yeah" at the end of every project haha). Thanks for pointing it out, I'll keep in it mind for the next video 😊

@@petitvelo I don’t mind the umms and ahs at all, perhaps it’s because I live my life in a foreign language but also I think it’s just so lovely to see. I struggle to knit in my foreign language, so hats off to you!

@@woollenhearted Thank you so much ☺🤗 That's true that it's not always easy in a foreign language but I think it's nice to learn and see that we can improve with practice 😊
