Same! What a legend! So scary how every time we have a person really "get it" and use their influence to help the masses.. something tragic happens... So glad there are vids like this and people making the documentaries to keep his legacy alive! So funny we both had to find some more skiffle!!
How I got here: America's Cup > Rod Stewart from London sings "Sailing" live for the audience at the regatta in Oakland - New Zealand > Biography of Rod Stewart > Rod Stewart began his artistic career singing in a skiffle(?) music group > I searched for "Skiffle" on RU-vid, and here I am. And it's a pleasant surprise. Thumb up, guys.
Skiffle is an American genre originating in the 1920s in the southern United States. It is a precursor to what would later become country music. Later, in the 1950s, many British artists (Lonnie Donegan being the biggest reference) helped popularize it.
Love it guys!!! The year that skiffle ruled in England was 1957... number 1 in our charts the week that I was born was Cumberland Gap ( Lonnie Donnegan). Just subscribed to you now!🤗🪗🎶🎻🪕🪗🎻🎻
Thanks to Letterman, I can't hear 'Lonnie Donnegan' without picturing Jimmy Fallon. I never knew who he was until I fell unexpectedly into this skiffle rabbit hole.
BRILLIANT! And Chris, the little "trumpet bell" on your Kazoo is HILARIOUS! Thanks for the big grin while makin' my toes tap! - Johnny, from Hendersonville NC
I don't know if I'd call it "skiffle" music, but definitely a skiffle band. I like the fact they put a fresh spin on it, fer sure! -from the Greater KC area.
My Mom owned the Bar in Knob Town Late Fifties and 60's,.,,called it Knob Hill,.,,Friday Night all you can Eat Shrimp,,,1.25 she said the belger boys would about wipe out the buffet,.,!!!
i find most modern recording engineers tend to clean this sort of stuff up too much with slick recording techniques which kinda robs it of much of the rustic accessible character really
True....we tried not to clean it up too much. Not sure how successful we were. We are a month away from releasing another cd, and we took a similar approach on this one.
I haven't heard any skiffle music from these guys yet but that's ok they are GREAT at what the do. Check out lonnie donnegan if you care to hear real skiffle.
