@catherineelmore2004 4 месяца назад
@@workslikeclockwurk That is *absolutely* what I think he was trying to do- turn Gorgug into an ally who feels the same way about rage as *he* does. Righteous fury - what Gorgug describes wanting to use his rage for, that which is necessary and justified - is not his vibe. Just destruction for your own benefit- that’s Porter. Hence the encouraging just killing the door and giving positive encouragement for that but not Gorgug’s wanting to use his anger just for things that were necessary or justified. Honestly it feels like he’s essentially been trying to neg him into becoming the Anakin to his Palpatine for three years and was getting frustrated that it wasn’t working cause Gorgug’s usually so chill, but when he rages he’s clearly powerful so he *wants* him on the team.

Im going to be honest? Im so proud of Gorgug here. He has always sorta struggled with the orcish part of his identity and his rage, he’s never really been able to accept it. His character has always seen the Rage as his base state he can evolve and change from but you know what Gorgug? You can do math AND be pissed. Accept it

the barbarian* part of his identity... nothing orcish about rage
@catherineelmore2004
@catherineelmore2004 6 месяцев назад
@@oliviacarolinanogueira7769 True- *but* after sophomore year, I've wondered if he might not be dealing with some internalized racism considering, if that vision of his parents' bio family being kicked out of the tree is to be believed, they certainly, in their bigotry, thought there was. And Gorgug's still learning the orcish side of his heritage and that *it's not connected*, and Digby and Wilmas relatives were just bigots who deserved to get kicked to the curb! Kid's got a lot he hasn't processed - and a lot of it is big stuff!
@catherineelmore2004
@catherineelmore2004 6 месяцев назад
Like - a big part of Gorgug *starting* to accept himself more? Was meeting Garthy O'Brien - who could give him a different perspective on orcish culture by virtue of they're being a half orc Aasimar. (That and Ayda recognizing he was smart - but that's a different topic all together!) But like - that conversation with Garthy that he had on Leviathan that led to him getting the orcish tattoo? That was really I feel like the start of the more confident Gorgug that *finally* comes gloriously to a head confronting Porter. Cause he realizes he can be all that he is, and right now, that is angry and he's going to let himself feel his feelings!
@catherineelmore2004
@catherineelmore2004 6 месяцев назад
Even further - if you look on Gorgug's character sheet (his stats along with all the other characters' known things from their stats are on the Dimension 20 wiki), he specifically used to have, it looks like, the orcish aggression feat- no longer though. Not sure when he dropped it but again, feels very deliberate on Zac's part. I feel like it's similar to Lou having Fabian change fighter classes as a show of character development - in this case, Gorgug's learned 2 big things - rage isn't inherently bad, nor is it inherently orcish. It's just a feeling that exists and can be constructive or destructive depending on how it's channeled. Our favorite barbarian is growing up so fast!

I mean, he is quoting Augefort here, from the first episode of Freshman year, roughly at 01:12:20, lasting for a minute or so. "And what is an adventurer? [...] I say that an adventurer is a hero, and what is a hero? A hero is someone with the strength of heart, courage of spirit, and the might of will to go to strange lands and enact violence on things there. [...] ...and *a hero is a violent wanderer who enacts their will bloodily* and with strange magicks upon the world." Like, being an adeventurer basically gives you a lease on killing and destroying whatever the bad guys might be in any given moment, so I don't think Porter's words are that "out-of-line", y'know?

Also, that +14 to Athletics that Porter has means he is likely at least lv17 as far as proficiency bonus is concerned(+6). Actually, since he is primarily a Barbarian and his strength score is definitely higher than +2, we can rule out expertise since that would give him a +12 bonus from proficiency. Meaning in all likelihood, Porter somehow has 26 STR for a +8 bonus. 20th Level barbarians get Primal Champion which allows their Strength and Constitution to gain 4 and cap at 24 by normal means, however since we have seen Porter use Divine Smite and act as a Paladin multiclassing teacher, he may just have a Belt of Cloud Giant's Strength. All assuming that Porter's character sheet follows player rules of course.
@rotimiabiona3234
@rotimiabiona3234 6 месяцев назад
I thought about this a bit more and there is a chance that Porter's strength is 18, with expertise and a lower proficiency score (+5) but that combined with the fact that he has multiclassed into Paladin almost feels like it makes sense.

@@davidtrainor9569he took it personally is maybe not the best phrasing. Porter really cares about Gorgug as a student and wants to see his abilities used to their full potential. And from a teacher perspective, yeah its bullshit what hes doing but from a character in a dnd show? “Bud im sorry, but an integral class feature of the barbarian is going to make it impossible to do an integral part of being an artificer.” Because Brennan is gonna pull out some bullshit for Zac its going to be fine but Artificer and Barbarian is, objectively, one of the worst options he could’ve taken

@@Theology.101barbarian and a artificer is metal as hell actually. Maybe not the particular subclasses Gorgug has, but artillerist and armorer synergize well (one giving a way to use spellslots mid rage for additional damage/support, the other granting a specialized and very customized weapon that is also boosting AC). He may not be able to cast spells AND rage, but he can outfit himself and his team with items that cater to a barbarian playstyle, using spell slots to sort of "clean up" between encounters, allowing the cleric and bard to save magic for in combat purposes.

@@jimmy_the_squid9456I mean, they proved that using rage constructively has merit. That doesn’t mean Porter isn’t flawed as a teacher- in particular it’s weird that he puts so much of his own emotional baggage on Gorgug for no reason. Saying he was “hurt” when Gorgug applied to multiclass? Getting all worked up here? It’s natural for a teacher to be proud of student doing well, sure, but Porter just doesn’t seem to have good emotional boundaries with students if he’s sharing that he was *hurt* just by Gorgug wanting to multiclass and also is always showing blatant favoritism with other students. He also gave Gorgug almost no actual constructive criticism and basically just told him to “figure it out” when it came to raging “””the right way””” (And Porter believes that his own worldview is the most correct but completely refuses to engage with Gorgug’s or see things from his perspective). It’s great that Gorgug was able to make progress, but I’d argue it’s actually in spite of Porter kind of failing to support him as a student
