I thought it would be helpful to demonstrate some of the most common knots used by saddle hunters in a single video. I show how to tie the overhand on a bight, figure eight on a bight, double overhand stopper knot, prusik knot, poacher's knot, schwabisch hitch, distel hitch, and the michoacan hitch.
0:00 - Introduction
1:04 - Tether Knots
1:51 - Overhand on a Bight
3:06 - Figure Eight on a Bight
3:49 - Double Overhand Stopper Knot
4:46 - Prusik Knot
6:29 - Poacher’s Knot
8:42 - Schwabisch Hitch
10:20 - Distel Hitch
11:36 - Michoacan Hitch
13:00 - Hitch demonstrations on a lineman belt

Spencer, terrific video for us "improving saddle hunters"!! Got my Dryad Saddle today!! Wish season opened tomorrow. If you have not tried the "Mini" from Hickory Creek Archery, you must try it. The bow is made for saddles like the Dryad

So what do you think of the Drey? I need to find somewhere I can try the mini from Hickory Creek.

Daisy Chain knot for lineman’s rope vs. bag would be nice to add and see Super high quality videos and well thought out. Superior to others I watch. ❤keep ip the good work. BTW you got me to purchase a Dryad hammock 😂❤

Try a VT friction knot, way easier to adjust and has good bite. I'm using it for my tether over the Prusik knot.

I use the DMM Hitchclimber Eccentric for DRT climbing & I found that the Michoacon works very well. The top hole with the DMM oval carabiner attaches to the sewn eye. Then the bottom hole has another DMM oval carabiner attaching to the Michoacon hitch making sure that the top of the hitch is to the far right for easy repelling. U don't want your knot the other way that forces u to put your offhand in between the ropes which r close together. It works very nice & the bridge on my saddle that attaches to the bottom carabiner also has a Michoacon on it so I can lengthen or shorten my bridge easily. My other bridge is the oplux u have there & it has the WEI Kiss system on it. That bridge is used when I tie in when I get to my sitting height. It attaches to another Oplux that I simply girth hitch to the 🌳. It's a great system w/o much bulk but a lot of security.

Sounds great, I've never done DRT.

My favorite of all is a Catalyst hitch. Smooth and hold tight but breaks really easily. Cinches down immediately and breaks super easy after being loaded. You can even break it for a slow adjustment while fully loaded. I tried all of these and liked the Michoacán a lot but the Catalyst hitch really grabbed me. (Pun intended)

Thank you for all the hunting tutorials! I love how your explanations are so detailed and thorough. You definitely have a gift for teaching and you may want to think about asking for people to subscribe/like/share your content so you can grow your channel and help more people! I do have one question that I haven't been able to find elsewhere yet. Does the schwabisch knot need a tender (like the prusik/beast tender) to make it one hand operation? Thanks again!

I just really felt a great appreciation for your combining things into one video with such great demonstrations too! Thanks man!!! - oh, while I’m at it: Do you ever mess with SRT or mix it into your saddle hunting? Also, I would love to see some more on your use and experience with ring(s) of steps in combo with a platform… I wonder if there’s a fun way to to to do a ring up high for observation and platform down low for cover with a rig between them - probably never used in real life but very cool experiment to demonstrate some high level techniques (now that all these tree climbing videos am I right?)!😍. Especially when trying to minimize metal parts, once you’ve actually have some reps in the deer woods and the pretty mechanical stuff turns into the bane of your newfound freedoms!!!! :)) Along your way, have you found some interesting (or, otherwise fundamental diy technique stuff advanced people might take for granted but a new guy might be doing backwards..,eg. ) use Ig amsteel to replace metal pieces, ultra quiet ninja hacks to give us too please?! I’m still enjoying and going through your stuff so forgive me if some of that is already covered and for this fragmented comment. Much love ❤😂🎉

What knot would you tie for a backup on your tether line?

So new to saddle hunting not new to saddles. I was an arborist for quite a few years 20yrs ago. I’ve been looking at ropes and knots again to freshen up. So I’m thinking about resc tech or Oplux for my ropes but reading some forums where they both fail pinch tests after 50-60 hunts where the knots are tied. Have you seen this or heard of this? How long should I expect my ropes to last under normal use 30+ sits a yr? My arborist ropes lasted quite a while if you took care of them is why I ask.

Can a Schwabisch knot be tied with a Beal Jammy? Or what knot is best for it? I have a 50cm one

I got the 8mm sterling. Am I just using essentially para chord for the swabbich or whatever it’s called
@xiage965
@xiage965 2 года назад
Hell no man. Paracord is NOT rated for this usage. For 8mm sterling I would recommend 5.5mm Beal Cordelette for tying your eye to eye lanyard for these friction hitches. I’d hazard a guess that that is the black line used in Spencer’s video. You can get it by the foot from Eastern Woods Outdoors. You would need roughly 3-4 feet to tie it with the stopper knots.

If I'm one sticking with an amsteel rope and cam cleat, what knot or hitch would I use when I get to hunting height after setting my stick?
@SaddleHunter
@SaddleHunter 3 года назад
A half hitch or two works fine.
@tomnolan2186
@tomnolan2186 3 года назад
So what would be better to use on my tether? A overhand on a bite or a figure 8?
@SaddleHunter
@SaddleHunter 3 года назад
Either will work just fine. The figure eight is probably the more popular knot.

Hi! I know it's kind of late, yet that's a fisherman's knot that closes the two ends to make a loop.

can you use these same knots for amsteel?

For the most part no. Samson says that you should not tie knots in amsteel. It is intended to be spliced.

Why not use a bowline knot instead of some sort of bight? Uses way let rope to tie.
