Good call on the stopper knot! I'm just getting into saddle hunting but I did Arborist work for over 20 years off and on and one thing they taught us about those mechanical Devices is make sure to put a figure eight because guys have actually slid right off the safety rope when there device failed.

Would an alpline butterfly make a good stop knot if you didn't have access to either end if the rope? For example, under your madrock at hunting hieght?

Any reason to prefer the poachers knot over a scaffold knot?

I think it’s all preference. I watched a lot of videos and researched to end up with the poachers. I’ll be researching the scaffold knot now. Who knows I make like it better! Thanks for the comment

Where would the alpine be used in regard to saddle hunting ?

If you ever ran into an emergency situation where you might need to tie a mid line loop in order to clip a carabiner. I would say it’s more practical if you’re rappelling or doing one of those climbing methods that don’t require sticks.
