Atana is a beautiful and stimulating raga which holds a unique place in Carnatic music. A Raga that does not necessarily follow the scale , verbatim, but rolls out its very own distinctive phrases which a student cannot miss out if he/she follows it keenly. Also the handling of the Kakali Nishadam and Antara Gandharam plays an inportant role in guiding the raga flow.
The small alaapana that I have presented in this video will get you familiarised with the essence of the ragam.
