Well, I think the Donkey Kong in the arcade is Cranky Kong but younger. The DK we have now had his first appearance in "Donkey Kong Country" in November 21, 1994 for the Super Nintendo. Knuckles had his first appearance in Sonic 3 in February 2, 1994 for the Sega Genesis. So technically, Knuckles has 9 months and 19 days of experience more than DK. And who knows how much experience Knuckles had before Sonic 3 happened. DK may have punched the moon, but there is a certain chance that Mario's world has more gravity than ours, making it possible for DK to punch the moon. The one thing I think makes this match up obvious is the fact that Knuckles can fight and even win against Sonic in a fight, someone that would destroy DK. Knuckles actually has more super forms than just Super Knuckles. He actually has Super Knuckles, Hyper Knuckles, and even Chaos Knuckles, which turns him into a literal chaos emerald. Knuckles should be known as a god. In my opinion, this video is accurate even if they didn't do research for this fight. I got more evidence if you need more, trust me.
