Yes. It’s a bit of a mystery to me. This is a great manufacturer. What do you think the issue is? D

Dave there are quite a few multi hull builders and even more vinyards down in SA. might be worth taking a look.. as Sea Domain 🤔

If Clive says it, then I’m on it! Going to look now. Thanks Clive!! Hey, remember that special wood product you mentioned. They have a treated balsa line. Would that work for a core material?

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I can't see why not... Balsa stocks have got so stripped out of their native forests by the wind turbine blade manufacturers demands they have gone over to using synthetic balsa made the previous waste core material pith from Hemp crops . Mostly grown in Canada... Which is cheaper greener ... it can be harvested every time you cut the crop for its long fibers...its also rot more resistant naturally and a good insulator. But given the normal feed stock for the Mettelwood is ordinary soft wood or Bamboo in the hotter regions you might well just build the whole thing as a pressure moulded ply skin .... You can insulate the interior with spray on cork or Hemp pith .. or any number of grown alternatives. If it works as theyve managed in the lab tests you can even have clear windows that insulate like wood and have the same sort of structural strength. 🤔 No condensation ! What might be more of an advantage is if you could create A light rigid regular honeycomb that would be resistant to rot, wide temps and chemicals from a 3 DPrinted or pressed greener material .. than plastics. I know its been done in Belgium with basalt where they have created a double skinned honeycomb sheet material that can also be moulded . For use on European high speed trains aircraft ...etc as floors bulkheads, interior partitions. All of which need light wt. high rigidity , impact resistance, fire, chemical and lack of resonance .

@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 No worries Clive. I found the site. VERY interesting. I’m just trying to figure out how that tech would be best applied as a core. I’ll have to reach out to them n

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I have specifically asked Knysna if there is anything on the drawing board and was told no. They make a great boat and the 500SE is a lot of bang for the buck but dated hull design.. You can get into the 550 for less than a Privilege, but that's a lot of boat for a couple. We are personally looking at a St. Francis 46 or Vision 444 that both price out similar to the 500SE and is a nice size for a couple cruising. Cheers.

Currently it’s the NEEL 52, but if price were no object it would be the Rapido 63XS!

I stepped away from your site as it seemed you were doing TOO MUCH research a d Wine ......If you were serious it would seem you should take direction from knowledgeable Sailors like 'Sailing Nohoa' especially their new /55 ftr.......Although their logic is correct about Alum vrs Composit the actual justification of material has validation the process if construction is lacking in ownership and safety consideration. also the election of underwater APPENDAGE choice is lame.. Your complimenting the Knysna 500 SE you reviewed baffled me as a breaking wave will always compress the bows down, endangering the balance of thhe boat as it is thrusted further into a wave smashing tons of water against the bridge glazing......good luck ! Sylvia should have more concern about construction & safety vrs the interior design! I look forward to your potential reality for purchasing any multihull.

Hey Norm! Thanks for having another look! I’m always open to be educated so I’d like to ask a few questions about your note. I’m unclear on your conclusions regarding aluminum vs composite hulls. Can you expand for me? I see both as valid materials and look forward to exploring VAAN and Portfolio more. If $ was no object, at this point I would feel safer with aluminum. Am I wrong there? What is the underwater appendage you mentioned? Is it winglets on keel/dagger board/rudder? What are your concerns? Finally, re the now form on the Knysna…sadly, I was speaking from an aesthetic perspective, assuming that the more modern vertical inverted bow has proven and functional merit, given the likes of Outremer and Balance who have adopted it. Is this assumption wrong? I look forward to hearing from you. Re the wine and the art. These are personal passions, I admit. I have added chapters to my new videos so that you can skip these ares if you wish. I hope they are working. All the very best and thanks for keeping me on track. D
