Sorry for the craptastic audio. This is the first recording I've ever done on my laptop and the mics in it are obviously not very good! I'll do more videos like this in the future and I'll have to get a much better microphone for this type of work.

I had a good laugh at your comment! Ha! He NEEDS to learn to at least say the right terms so he doesn't sound like a middle school drop-out! When I say something wrong, it's not for lack of understanding, probably just a mistake in my narrative. Chris OTOH, he has no clue! Half of what he says in his announcements is pure nonsense! I read what he writes and grimace a lot!

Too late! Ha! The moment I said anything about them back in December 2022, they hated me instantly! I just watched my video. The mics in my laptop are crap! So muffled! It sounds like I'm talking through a towel! Grrr!

The connector thingy springs look like crown springs which are very nice. Why is there no copper on the right phase between the fets. It's bizarre lol.
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
I have no opinion about the reliability of those sleeve connector things. They might be pretty good...I simply don't know anything about them! The Rush is more stupid "cheap it out" and "bodge it together" practices that KO has always done!
@sn0wchyld
@sn0wchyld Год назад
the comedy is KO ragging on EBMX for having bolted studs, then go to produce their 'top end' controller relying on spring connectors that actually carry the full load current (presuming its carrying, but looks like it). Not to mention the tiny solder pads for connecting those bridges to the reinforced traces... and the extra bit on the 'lower' phase that goes nowhere, just sticks in there for some reason... its worse than their last lot...
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
I forgot to mention that extra bit of copper on the bottom phase that is completely useless. Did you notice how small the BATT- copper is compared to it? There is no reason or point to this! Make them all the same size and enough to carry the current and that's enough! What KO did is stupid, thoughtless and ignorant!
@sn0wchyld
@sn0wchyld Год назад
@@de-bodgery seems a classic case of giving a junior engineer the job of 'just add copper to the traces' - without them having the knowledge/confidence to not add it where its pointless... so just doing what they're told. That said, beefier AC conductors do make some sense, as AC current is almost always > DC current... but yea... some silly design here. Your point RE fitting it all on 1 board makes far better sense than this nonsense. I wonder too if there's seperate drive circuits for the top and bottom boards? potentially run the top board a few % lower power than the bottom to compensate for heat? else there'll be some major imbalances there. not sure how the driver circuits will handle such different drive paths to each bank of fets either... cant seem them switching on in perfect unison, so 1 boards fets will carry more load than the other...
@de-bodgery
@de-bodgery Год назад
@@sn0wchyld KO Moto is condescending and offensive! They KNOW that the copper they added is all show! They know that under the current implementation of added copper and NOT fixing much of anything that they are doing it just to shut up their customers demanding better build quality! They KNOW all of this so they do the absolute minimum needed to NOT fix anything and still sell the same old crap! The assumption is that their average user is too stupid to know shit when they see it! This is highly offensive and demeaning! *** If you watched my first video on the Rush controller, I talk about the need for dual driver circuits and that they are there on the logic board. This too is a BAD design! What they really need to do is use a single more powerful mosfet driver and NOT use 48 mosfets to begin with! The 24 mosfets they already had, laid out optimally and with good heat sinking can do 1000 amps all day long! 48 mosfets is just stupid! Drive the 24 you have now optimally! Lay them out optimally! Fix the current paths optimally! Problem solved and no added complexity!!! They want to sell controllers, not do a good job. So they make shit and hype it! *** I wondered about those smaller bridges on the center power stage. They will restrict current a little and make the bottom power stage carry more of the load. Thing is, there is only one set of current sensors. They can't know what amount of current is coming from the bottom power stage and what amount from the center stage. About all they can do is measure temps from each one and see that the center power stage is about to go thermo nuclear! You will see failure rates on these controllers. Just to make them run they already have to slow down the gate drive considerably. This makes heat in the mosfets, but guarantees that they get plenty of time to turn on and off. They are already pushing this on the Pro and FSPEC. It's even worse on the Rush!

If you want fairly cheap and yet surprisingly good and the setup software being a little rough doesn't bother you, look at Votol. I did a tear down of the EM150 not too long ago. It's way better than I ever expected! If you want best case hardware and software that is full on FOC, check out Nucular...if you can get one since they are based in Russia. There are TONS of options that are VESC: The EBMX X-9000 is pretty solid and VESC based. Most people that buy one love it after they get it set up. Tronic 750 and 250R are VESC based and quite good. What I've seen so far of SHUL is pretty good too. If you can enclose your controller and heat sink it, the Trampa 100/250 is a good option. I'm biased towards FOC and I really like VESC since its sooo feature rich! When people ask me what to get, I will always lead them to something fully FOC. I will also try to move them towards VESC since there are TONS of VESC options and many are really good ones! If people want something set up by someone else, ASI is a good option for that. You buy a controller and you don't get to set it up yourself. That's done by their resellers. If you buy VESC or Nucular, expect to so a lot of that setup yourself.
