I think Kobe is the only player in NBA History (including Jordan and Wilt) that I know who has come close to outscoring the opposing team after 3 quarters like this game or actually does it like the game versus the Mavs in 2005 when had 62 and Mavs had 61 after 3 quarters.
Not sure if anyone read the recap, but just as Kobe outscored Dallas 61-62 after three, the score during this game after three was Kobe: 56, Memphis: 59.
Shaq was carried his whole career. The Finals MVP awards he had was because all those teams they faced in the finals had no decent Center to guard Shaq. All games were decided because the perineal stars like Reggie Miller in 2000, Iverson in 2001 and Jason Kidd/Kenyon Martin in 2002 was shutdown by Kobe. Kobe had Shaq they won 3 titles. Kobe without those key players like Fox, Walker, Fisher, Horry, Shaw in 2005 to 2007 he did not win Shaq had Wade, Mourning, Hardaway, Payton in Miami, won 1 because of that controversial 50 FT attempts by Wade. He had Nash, Stoudemire, Hill, J.Rich, Frye but lost to Tim. He had Lebron, lost to Boston in 6 He had Pierce, Garnett, Allen and Rondo in 2012. Shaq always lost miserably because he is matched up against much skilled centers like Hakeem, Duncan, Yao even Big Ben. Kobe just needed a decent center. Pau Gasol was decent but Shaq needed a superstar perimeter guy. Shaq even admitted himself that he didn't workout in those summers of their dynasty because he knew he had Kobe. Made Kobe mad at him. Shaq now is super sensitive about being carried because he of all his life he was always see himself the largest one.
Never knew he scored 56 in three quarters back in 2002... if he made that three at the end he will have scored 59 which is what the Grizzlies team scored!
Durant just dropped a career high last night 52 points vs Dallas. It took him OT to get it done in his 6th year in the NBA. Impressive it is! But then I thought of Kobe's career: His 6th year, in 2002, he dropped a career high too, 56 points but he didn't require OT to get it, all he needed was 34 min. of playing time on the floor!! When you think about it, Kobe is unbelievable! amazing! and let's not forget what he has done, even though we have some great player today. There's none like KB!
And somehow there’s a debate about who’s the greatest scorer in league history. There’s no question that it’s Kobe Bryant. 56 in 3 quarters? 34 minutes? What’s he like 22 years old here? Dude been a prolific scorer since the beginning.
@xXJeRiTrolL619Xx how could a person averaging 5 ast be a ball hog. I know kobe is not the most pass friendly guy but saying he is total ball hog is out of hate. I mean i see people like carmelo and durant avereraging 3 ast but people dont hate on them as much as kobe. Plus jordan for his carrear averaged 5ast and he dosnt get as much hate as kobe.
Kobe should have been allowed to hit 80+ points 3 or 4 different times during his amazing career. MJ undoubtedly the GOAT in front of GOAT Jr. Kobe Bean Bryant. 🙌🙏💯 RIP to the Legend.
1. Your uploads are amazing. 2. Kobe was doing video game plays even before many people acknowledged it. 3. Almost outscored the Grizzlies in 3 quarters. Dallas mavericks anyone?
Games like this and even later on the road vs the suns game ,6 over g hill ..... showmanship.. entertainment he's better than lebron even during prime years I mean shit LBJ was dunking on Tim Duncan his rookie year he's chase down blocks n dunks are better than kobes fersure but just ball....I like kobe..on the road getting mvp from the away crowd during those title years with pau LBJ had a moment on the road with that bank Late 3 vs the wizards...leaving ppl in shock ...Kobe for most of those years had jaw dropping games ....
Bro, Jordan averages the most shots per game of all times and took more shots in his career than Kobe and Kobe's played much more games. He averaged a whole 3 assists per game in his last championship season. Kobe and Jordan both average 5 assists per game for a career. Not saying Jordan isn't the greatest because I don't buy into the whole "ball hog" thing. But I'm saying if the greatest player ever took the most shots than get off of Kobe's back for being a shoot first type player.
One more comment..I love how it's just so natural. This isn't like one of those special nights. He's not particularly on fire. It's just like yea I showed up, scored 56 points in 3 quarters...no big deal. In his youth this man could score any time he pleased. He's still a bad man but he's obviously lost a step.
Kobe scored 50+ in 3 games that he didn't play the 4th. And a few other times with 40+ 4 of his first 5 50 point games he didn't even play 40 minutes. A lot of amazing performances go under the radar, glad I've watched every single game from 02 on that Kobe's ever played.
That's the most amazing part about this man. Between sitting out 4th quarters with huge games in the works, playing behind an amazing center, and often times being leashed by Phil who's told him he's "playing too hard"...the things he could have done...will probably never happen. Kobe is one of a kind.
Don't be such serious, it was total irony, you know how do they talk about LeBron being notclutch when he is doing things almost like Kobe here every game not having to play 4q. No disredpect, I love Kobe here and love his skills and I also love Lebron, all this just cause I love good basketball just as you do I am sure. Take a look at top comment, this is why I mentioned LBJ, it is unnecessary to hate any of these players, when we are lucky to watch them play.
Yeah incomparable between this kobe and lebron now. I'd take kobe every time. In this team it was just kobe and shaq, fisher yeah but not as much. Lebron has battier, Allen, wade, bosh, etc., I mean this is what it took for him to gain a championship. And besides I don't give any credit to lebron bcuz he fuckin flopped his way into the finals, kobe doesn't play that shit. Also the finals was rigged, clearly okc should win game 2.
@xXJeRiTrolL619Xx the was only one year you could say that about kobe abd that was the 05-06 season where he average 27.7 shots a game and i think it was necessary for him to do this with the team he had other than that he didnt in any year shoot more than than ever seen. Other than 05-06 i think is highest was a little over 23 shots a game but that not some thing we never saw before.
@xXJeRiTrolL619Xx cont. kobe and mj played with the same coach with the same plays. As a expert of the triangle offense and a huge bulls and lakers fan i can assure that kobe trough out his carreer with phil passed the ball about just as much as mj. Before the mj played with phil he in the season before avg 8 ast then the thoughout the res of his carrear avg 4-6 ast. If you look at kobe with phil the same applies.
@xXJeRiTrolL619Xx plenty of people base kobes passing on his bad first impression and when shaq left. To be honest in the beginning he didint pass much but when him and shaq were playing at there best he was a great passer. The when shaq left he was left with a horrible team. yet still he avg 6 ast but his team didnt make playoff so the next year he aimed to score more pass less and the team made the playoffs. He still wasn so bad he avg 4.5 ast.
I don't need to check the vid, I remember the game very well. I also remember that Kobe needed 38 shots and 2 overtimes to get that 53. That game says more about Kobe's stamina and determination than it does about Battier's defense. Nobody can guard Kobe one-on-one (not even Bruce Bowen) and his jumpers are rarely blocked by anyone, let alone the guy guarding him. But Battier does force him to take a lot of difficult shots, which is why his FG% generally drops against Houston.
Don't buy Battier's team as an excuse in this game. Shaquille was out... Samaki Walker was in. Check out the youtube vid 'Kobe Bryant 2006: 53 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists vs Shane Battier' ... some interesting quotes in that vid. Battier himself says that he's not the quickest guy in the world, which is what I said: he lacks quickness. Bill Walton says at the end of the vid that Battier can't be expected to guard Kobe 1 on 1 and needed a double team.
You're a lucky guy. Where I lived we used to get a max of one NBA game per week on television, so I missed most of this. Pity so much of Kobe's prime was wasted trying to make Smush Parker and Kwame Brown look like basketball players. Still, the guy has accomplished more than most in the NBA and I don't think he's quite done yet. Lakers and him are gonna need some help though.
Actually it does. Jeff Van Gundy himself stated that he would rather take Miami's 33 win streak over a championship, IF Miami gets there. You forget Kobe is probably the most prideful and selfish player of all time next to Jordan. I'm pretty sure he would have taken every chance to get that record if not for Phil.
He sat out the entire fourth quarter versus the Mavericks when he outscored their entire team. He could have probably broke his 81 point game or possible break Wilt's record. That's not a valid excuse especially when he's on a good strive to break one of the most impossible records in all of sports history.
Yea Kobe was an amazing player in his prime especially with his scoring ability just glad i got a chance to watch tons of games of him in his prime.Too bad his prime was nearly wasted with a bad team with guys like Kwame Brown and Luke Walton for example.First ballot HOF for sure will be a sad day when he retires though.
How do you think Wilt broke the record? His team was up by 20 in the 4th. The warriors intentionally fouled his teammates in order for Wilt to not get the 100. His teammates passed Wilt the ball no matter what in order for Wilt to break it. And Kobe, if not more, was more selfish that Wilt.
Battier has a 2 inch height advantage, yet he isn't a serious threat to block Kobe's jumpshots because he lacks the quickness to really defend the premier 2 guards in the NBA. Battier has always lacked quickness and has always been overmatched against the premier 2 guards.
This explosion should have proven that Shane Battier is not a good perimeter defender... he has a false rep as a good defender. He's decent in the paint when he doesn't have to move his feet, but he has never had the quickness to defend the premier players at his position.
here you can see that Kobe doesn't ball hog,he just helps his team score, nothing wrong with that, and he takes an offensive play when he gets a chance but who wouldn't? He's just actually that good just like Jordan can score 62 pts a game naturally.
@streethustla24 There's 2 games in his career where people ask "what if he had played in the 4th quarter?" He could easily have 3 70+ point games if he actually did play the 4th against both Memphis in this game and Dallas in 05-06
He could've scored (56) 70 this night, against the Mavericks he could've scored (62) 80, vs the Wizards in 02 he could've scored (55) 80...All these games were games in which he sat out in the 4th. Against the Mavs he had 62 and the whole mavs team had 61.
NBA has 82 games in Regular season not included the Post season yet. Yes he easily score that much if he's stay on the court but It better to sit him down save his energy and don't risk the injury.
Durant isn't as agressive as Kobe, nowhere near lol. Durant only has that killer instinct if his team is in a dire situation, he's one of the best player's today for sure, but his style isn't like Kobe's.
No it wasnt lol do the math. He scored 56 in 34 minutes. In 48 he would have scored 79 at that pace. The 81 points is his best man. I guess that 62 in 3 quarters would have been the best rate
He almost outscored the entire grizzlies! I knew he did it to the mavs but I didnt think he had another game like this. And people think Lebron is a better scorer than kobe LOOOOL
Wow, don't remember this game at all. You hear a lot about the 62 in 3 quarters he scored against the Mavs, so it's kinda weird that 56 in 3 is hardly ever mentioned.
Very clear the Grizzlies coach wasn't doing a very good job if he had both Tony Massenburg and Grant Long starting over Stromile Swift... what was that all about?
The amount of 70 pt games this guy could’ve had had he not sat out most of the 4th quarters. I know it’s not necessary to stay when the game is decided by the end of 3rd but man, I wish phil encouraged him more to at least go for 70 at those 4th quarters.
