+SHO that's his Philly accent because that's where he's from. You don't have to be hood to have an accent. Him speaking "perfect English" now is called growing up.
+jamesbriggstown he is speaking English. You have to be from the hood or the mean streets of philly to say "you know what I mean"? Better yet point out in the video where he didn't speak English. & I said he was from philly. They have an accent & a lingo. Just like all southerners have an accent different from people up north. You acting like you grew up with him. I know plenty of people in the hood who got honor roll & got full ride scholarship. & still talk with a slang. Look at Obama. He grew up in Chicago & he knows when to turn that side of him off & on.
Just to chime in, I wasn't talking about if he sounded hood or not, just that he sounded nervous as hell. Don't know how you all got so deep with this conversation. LOL
Malcolm Batts//Joe Viben who gives asf when your young and from philly you talk like you from the east coast when he was in high school the dude talked just like this the only reason he changed his voice now is because he wants to be more professional but if you were born and raised somewhere then go to LA you aint going to change your voice for nobody
Major props to John Saunders in this interview. Put the pressure on Kobe and didn’t take any BS. So many interviews today are softball questions. This was real journalism. Obviously Kobe matured a lot from the fallout but John Saunders kept the heat on him for it.
@@selwynandrews7716 Nah I remember watching the interview then and now. Kobe tried to come across like those qualities you mentioned but he seemed a bit shaky, unsure and kind of nervous TBH. I respect that he DID the interview and answered ALL the questions they threw at him. He didn't hide behind his handlers. He showed his face and took it head on.
Interrogation is not real journalism. That’s the police’s job. Real journalism is dead. The truth gets buried, and woke or frivolous (like this) bs “journalism” gets exalted and put in mainstream
cbenji07 lol it's actually possible he didn't have his number back then. From what his teammates back then said.. Kobe didn't talk to anyone on the team off the court or spend any time with any of them. All he did was work on his game and get the job done on the court. He was apparently very anti social. But then he could've gotten shaqs number very easily
shaq was crackin jokes and making fun of kobe and the rape case. Shaq was telling people that kobe shouldnt have gotten down with that girl etc. kobe got pissed and said well i had consentual sex i dont pay girls for it like you. shit went south from there
Kobe snitching on Shaq was just fowl as hell. I really wonder why he did it? I heard he told the police and then they let it out? I dont blame Shaq for hating Kobe even though Shaq had a huge ego and could be difficult.
He said it off the record in a desperate bid to slide. It had nothing to do with the investigation and the cops leaked it anyway to disparage his character. Always be careful what you say to law enforcement as it will be used against you legally or in the court of public opinion....
Kobe was an ass that was his problem. And there’s a lot of insight in the way shaq conducts his affairs. He treats the ladies like princesses. Buys them trinkets, hotel stays etc. pump and dump strategy is not the way when you are famous.
Honestly I always thought he did it so the police can understand that kobe had no reason to rape a woman...like letting them know we all do this on the road(cheat on their wives)...not necessarily trying to target shaq specifically because if I'm not mistaken he mentioned karl Malone as well....I could be wrong tho...I'm not giving kobe any excuses because no matter what I would not have said that specifically...but I'm just thinking he used it to maybe try and clear his name
Kobe basically told he wasnt the omly one doing it. Classic snitch move. As a kobe fan this is a low point but it is what it is. As a business man he did what he thought he could to save himself.
It's tough watching young men going through the process of maturing. We judge these 18-26 yr old people so harshly. It's strange watching 35-55 yr old men scrutinize the decision making abilities of guys who are sometimes young enough to be their sons.
@@thealisterr you're not sure a 35 year old could be the father of an 18yr old? You just did the math. It's not improbable for an 18yr old to have kids. There are boys and girls having babies at 15yrs old. You didn't see or hear anything about that when you were growing up?
@@Mcgriffin67 of course, physically speaking yes teenagers can reproduce offspring, but mentally, emotionally and financially, in this day and age, they are not mature enough to handle those responsibilities. I’m not sure where you’re from, because in other cultures it may be different. But in America, the average teenager isn’t having children by choice. It’s usually unplanned. OR, if they do have kids, in rare cases it’s usually because they come from a well-off, financially stable family that can afford it.
that’s the true character of the man, not the myth everyone remembers. as soon as shit hit the fan he panicked and threw teammates under the bus. never forget that…
@@Bonescratcherwasn’t nothing real about this shit. A man reveals who he is under pressure as a basketball Kobe was fearless as a man in that moment he was worse than a snitch a snitch rats on people he did dirt with a snake puts someone in their bs that wasn’t involved ‘Mamba Mentality’ indeed
I never said the Lakers were a championship caliber team but fans bringing up the fact he didn't lead them to the playoffs but failed to bring up he was out due to injury just means they are being bias and abrasive
You can't take anything away from Kobe Bryant the basketball player. He was great on the hardwood. But where I come from, once a rat, always a rat. He'll never shake that with me.
Didn't Shaq say it was his fault all along? Didn't he say that He didn't take it too personally? It would be assumed that Shaq's wife would eventually find out that he's been cheating on her. To be fair, Kobe was young and he was dealing with a lot of things all at once. Kobe is not a perfect human being, no one is. We all make mistakes but the lesson is to never make the same one again. Thats why Kobe said that rape incident changed him as a human being. Regarding Kobe's parents, Kobe wanted to marry Vanessa and apparently his parents did not support that because she was a Mexican/Latina. All in all, Kobe's parents were the one who kicked Kobe to the Curb first. Obviously, his parents were wrong and that Kobe and Vanessa are living a happy life.
Basketball is just a game, but life isn't. His warped sense of self on the court was brought there from his life off the court, which explains his relationship with Shaq. The rape charge and snitch jacket is just another manifestation of his warped mind. Kobe was a selfish child with mad basketball skills, so what do you think Kobe would have been if he wasn't Kobe the elite basketball player? His pettiness with Shaq on and off the court should give you a clue.
@@willydoe7315 nobody is perfect but being a backstabber isnt something that is normal or a common thing to do to people... there has to be a lot of evil, hate , or envy in someones heart to go thru with stuff like tht imo
This was one of those times when younger Kobe felt he had to add a little "hood" flavor to his way of speaking. He always had a little insecurity about being born overseas and not really being from the streets, more of a clean cut, smart, multilingual, somewhat of a pretty boy, kind of guy.........so to offset that, sometimes you gotta be no good, because you're so hood.
@@maxdurk4624 He was being underrated in the 2000s, but at the same time the media during that time frame was stating him as the best player in the NBA. I do agree that people nowadays say he's overrated cause of his bad games is dumb.
This was immaturity all the way around. At 25, you're still a kid. I believe they had made up since, but we all mature at some point. Lessons were learned all the way around.
It seems as if they were trying to provoke Kobe into saying some BS! Kwame said it, they been putting black men against each other .. why put that on air?
when Kobe was alive, Kobe wasnt always a NICE person, which is WHY people werent nice to him, backTHEN .. Kobe's dead AND now people wanna be NICE .. (afraid to desecrate the dead)
he dry snitched but not snitched outright. He was in an interrogation room with the cops when he said "he shoulda done like Shaq and just paid people off." He was saying to the cops legally "I"ll pay you to get me out of this."{wink wink}. You can only throw the offer so many ways to the police before you're in jail for trying to bribe them, so he chose to use an example including himself for what he would like to do at that point. He wasn't saying to the cops in a private interrogation room "I shoulda done like Shaq and just paid people off," for it to be recorded and go to the public sent to the media by the police to ruin Shaq's family life. That's what people now a days are acting like Kobe did. They act like he was on radio or on tv saying this. Context. It's context. Now, he still shouldn't have mentioned Shaq, but still he wasn't saying "go to Shaq, why y'all messing with me? Shaq's done it more than me"
I hear what you're saying, but for me personally, you just don't do that! It doesn't matter the situation. It doesn't matter whether it was recorded or not, you don't bring up somebody else's name, especially when that someone played a part in your professional success up to that point! It's wrong to do it to anybody, but when you drop the name of someone who helped you achieve the professional success you had up to that point(and some people would say he was a major reason for your success), its borderline unforgivable! I don't care what anyone says, this incident right here is one of the main reasons free agents aren't coming to the Lakers anymore.
I'm not trying to get smart alik with you since you were respectful, but I just want to really ask the question of how old you are? I know that sounds like it's a tone or something but I'm not trying to be insulting in saying that; I'm asking because Kobe said that stuff early in his career, my only point is to attack the point you made as to why nobody wanted to play with him. To make his case that what you've said isn't true, these are the following players who wanted to play with Kobe and made it known and the players who did play with Kobe after those comments were made. Chris Paul (wanted to play with Kobe but was kept from playing with him), Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Lamar Odom......even Shaq made Kobe his child's godfather. Not to mention the countless players from Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving, Joel Embiid, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant who all have admitted to calling Kobe to learn how to use their pivot feet and take classes with him. Case and point is after he said that about Shaq, people still wanted to play with him. It was the crazy ownership of the Lakers that players stated was the reason they didn't want to play there.
Lets just say I wasn't far removed from high school when Kobe caught his case! Translation I'm old lol! As for the names you mentioned, you have to take a lot of things into consideration! CP3 and Kobe are similar personalities so that's probably why had no problems playing with him. Furthermore CP3 also said that the thought of potentially bringing a title to the Clippers was fascinating to him. Now whether he said that to save face after the fact is something we'll never know. Ron Artest and Lamar Odom had relationships with Kobe going back to high school. Dwight Howard didn't want to play with Kobe as much as he wanted to be in Hollywood, and as you saw he didn't stay long. Steve Nash was at the end of his career and looking for that elusive ring. As for Pau, remember he came by trade and honestly that was more about Jerry West's(who was running Memphis at the time) love for Kobe than it was about Pau wanting to be there, not saying Pau didn't like Kobe, but I don't think he was throwing a party either. As for all of those other guys, I think they respect Kobe as a basketball player and one of the best to ever do it, but at the same time none of those guys have expressed any interest in playing for the Lakers. Don't get me wrong, part of that is Jim Buss's fault, but at the same time if you're a top player like a KD or a LeBron, the Shaq thing has to cross your mind at some point. Once again, it wasn't just that he sold out a teammate, he sold out his best teammate and one who was just as popular, if not more popular than you and if your a top player/free agent that has to cross your mind at some point, regardless of what they might say publicly, privately a lot of those guys sing a slightly different tune!
There are alot of assumptions being made in your argument. At the end of the day people hated Kobe from day 1 and on his last day and after those days. Alot of the hate had nothing to do with Shaq. The hate he got before Shaq was he was an MJ copy, he'd never win a ring, he'd never win without Shaq, he's riding Shaq's coattails, he's uncoachable then came he's uncoachable, he hogs the ball, he can't win 2 rings, he's overrated, he's just another Penny Hardaway or Tracy McGrady. There's a lot of media hatred that went into discrediting everything about the guy, but I don't really care to give him anymore attention than I have. My only point is this and it should have been made first: (alot of seconds are about to come)The second the Lakers traded Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones and some other players on the Lakers during Kobe's early years (year 1 or 2) is the second the players turned against him on his own team and WOULD NOT pass him the ball. The second the Lakers fans demanded Kobe get more playing time and stop coming off the bench was the second the media started to critique him as a player unworthy of playing above the players the Lakers traded. The second Kobe didn't hang out at strip clubs or go to bars and get drunk and preferred studying plays and trying to study basketball like he was trying to achieve a doctorate degree at 19 was the second players felt he was egotistical and bourgeoisie. The second Kobe started not giving every media analyst the attention they wanted was the second the Media turned against him. When Shaq slapped Kobe and also kept pretending he was hurt is when Kobe turned against Shaq. The second the rape case came was the second endorsements fled and turned against Kobe and the NBA turned its back completely on him. The second Kobe said to the police in an interrogation room he should pay them off like Shaq (or something along those lines) is the last draw that solidified to all those who already didn't like him to use that as their excuse. The real reason people didn't like him was bc the media didn't ordain him as the next great player. He surprised everyone in the NBA of his talent. The fans weren't ready for ANYONE to challenge Jordan's Airness. Thus, no star could rise, especially one that talked and acted and played like him. Thus the adornation for Lebron. The media endorsed him before he made it to the NBA, and the NBA endorsed him along with everyplayer in his beginning and throughout his career and has made sure to give him the best possible players throughout his career so that they can capitalize off star power they felt they missed when Jordan retired and they weren't ready or had not proclaimed who would be the NEXT........The NBA and media likes to tell you who's going to be the next and who will fail. If you prove them wrong they punish you. Thus, the reason Kobe's commercial was the sign of his career when it showed everyone hating him. Thus the reason 90% of fans of Lebron who are over 30 hate Kobe.
While you made some valid points, there a few things you left out. You said the media didn't ordain him as the "next great player", but if you remember he was voted an all-star starter his second year despite the fact that he wasn't even a starter on his own team, that rubbed a lot of players, most notably Karl Malone! Phil Jackson probably had the greatest quote on Kobe in his book "The Last Season" when he said "Kobe knew the right way to play, but playing that way wasn't his first choice"! Now I'm not the biggest Phil fan, but that quote was spot on. Kobe had all of the tools to go down as the G.O.A.T. but as we all know, his greatest strength became his greatest weakness. He was obsessed with scoring. He was obsessed with MJ. Even Jerry West mentioned in his book "My Charmed Tortured Life" that Kobe came to him as a youngster and asked him how he was able to average all of those points with Elgin Baylor on the team basically saying he wanted to have something similar with Shaq. I'm sure there was some bickering about Kobe because Jerry Buss loved him as did the fans, but Kobe was not entirely without fault. Everybody from Jerry West to Del Harris to Shaq and Phil all said that Kobe would often go outside of the offense instead of running the designed play and more often than not it resulted in a turnover or a loss. As for Kobe not partying and all of those things, Brian Shaw(someone Kobe really respected) called him out. If you read Shaq's book "Uncut" he talks about it when him and Kobe were about to come to blows and Kobe basically was mad that the team didn't support him publicly during his rape beef and Shaw basically brought up(and I'm paraphrasing) all of times Shaq had thrown parties and team dinners and Kobe didn't come, Shaq had invited him to his wedding and Kobe didn't come, not to mention a few team functions. Basically he was saying you cant have it both ways. You cant isolate yourself, and make yourself bigger than the team, but then expect the team to back you up when you get into a tight spot. I agree that fans weren't ready for anyone to challenge MJ's throne at that time, but lets not act like Kobe wasn't just as fortunate as LeBron. LeBron didn't have the luxury of getting drafted by(or should I say traded to) a historically great franchise with a great owner, a great GM and the most dominant force of this generation in his prime. Not to mention a great coach and quality role players like AC Green, Robert Horry, Brian Shaw, Horace Grant, Ron Harper, Rick Fox, Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, and Ron Artest! Furthermore Kobe was VERY fortunate to play most of his career without the distraction of 24 hour radio and social media. Imagine if that rape trial had happened today? The media might not have loved Kobe's attitude, but he was still given a great stage to show off his talent. A lot of Kobe's dirt gets swept under the rug. My issue with Kobe was that he never content, which is not always a bad thing but it can be. When he had Shaq, he cried about being a "second fiddle" but when he had Kwame Brown he cried about the lack of talent. Its like, "what do you want Kobe"? He should be thankful Jerry West loved him enough to basically gift-wrap him a prime Gasol.
The media made this like it was the biggest thing in the world.. about 2 grown ass men who had beef with each other.. Oh but Kobe are you gonna track Shaq down and apologize to him? What are you gonna do Kobe? Was Kobe wrong? Was Shaq wrong? Who was to blame blah blah blah who cares it was pointless drama between 2 immature athletes.
I mean rape is something serious and should not be taken lightly, and well that was a snake move. Just becuase you got caught doing something bad doesnt make it ok to throw your brother under the bus...
