I don’t think the Bloke’s understand the significance of this. Kobe played 20 years (age 18-38) all for the same team, something that never happens. Brought LA 5 championships. He was LA. His last few seasons were marred by injury (Achilles tendon tear being the worst). For him to go out like this was huge for basketball.
@Fleeingpanda
@Fleeingpanda 3 года назад
I think the closest thing for them would've been Ryan Giggs for Man United, though I think one of the blokes would like to forget him. Played over 20 years in the Premier League and scored in every season except his last.

Basically, imagine if like Cristiano stayed w/ United for his entire career, and at his final season, he was just completely done physically and was terrible, but in his final game scored 4 goals inlcuding 2 in added time to win 4-3

@@Plague_Doc22 people went nuts because he scored 81 points, not because it was a game full of highlights. You suggested they react to those highlights and it’s my opinion that they’re not exciting highlights compared to games he dropped 55 on MJ in Washington or the comeback against Toronto in Staples later in his career just to think of a couple. Dame’s 55 in these playoffs was more exciting than Devin Booker’s 70 and they were both in losses. I’m just saying that all performances aren’t created equally when it comes to entertainment value - though the *accomplishment* of 81 in a win is amazing, I think even this 60 point finale was more *exciting* than his 81. We can agree to disagree tho 🤷‍♂️

One of his biggest disappointments really early on in Kobe’s career was against the Utah Jazz. Where he air balled multiple 3 point shots in the playoffs. And so that last team he played coincidentally is the Jazz where he goes off for 69 points. Lol also to me it’s funny how everyone talked shit about Kobe never liked passing the ball and the very last thing he did as a professional basketball player was pass the ball and get an assist lol. Idk maybe it’s just me but I think that is freaking funny and awesome.

It wasn't about the score or how many points he put up. It was about him sticking with the team till the last seconds and the emotion from the crowd. Many a lesser player being down that many points and exhausted would have subbed out. Instead, Kobe pulled a Kobe and rose to the occasion and his nerves never wavered even with the deafening crowd in those last minutes. He embodied the 'Mamba' mentality and rose to the his former level of play, nailing all of those last crucial shots. It wasn't about his game as a whole. It was those final 3 minutes. The emotion. The will to win. The mentality of a champion.

No he didn't. He took 50 field goal attempts. Wilt took 63 in his 100 pt. game. Hell, way back when, Joe Fulks took 55 FGA in a game where he only scored 35 pts. And in this game (kobe's last), his teammates were purposely passing up shots because they (the teammates, not kobe) REALLY wanted kobe to have a huge game. Didnt hurt he singlehandedly brought them back from, I believe, 12 pts down by making his last 6 straight FGs (yes, he had been gassed earlier & missed something like 20 of his previous 24 shots...& his teammates STILL kept telling him to shoot). Kobe's 50 FGA was 16th all-time. And to be fair he only took 46 FGA in his 81 pt game. For the #2 scoring game ever, he took about the 28th most FGAs. Of course, in 1969 wilt scored 66, going 29 for 35 from the field, over 80%. Ridiculous. But kobe's 60 pt game was most remarkable in that it was the last in a 20 yr career, & NOBODY in NBA history ever came close to even 50 in their last game.
