i never understood the "Kobe haters". This dude was a machine who destroyed defenses night in and night out. truly one of the greatest to ever lace em up.
Rick Steck you say it like it's nothing. And you've clearly never watched kobe play for a whole year, back in his prime he was getting 35 points per game every single night..
***** LOL you never played competitive basketball in your life huh. Basketball have evolved in skills and strategies. a player back then could not even hold their dribble against players today. dont joke around like this ever again.
Jordan was physically more gifted than Kobe. MJ was stronger, had bigger hands, and could jump higher. That's why Kobe had to learn to be a better shooter and his shots were crazier and higher difficulty.
Brent C They are both once in a lifetime players, we are truly lucky and blessed by the basketball gods to get so both of these guys in our lifetimes like seriously people won't realize how great both of them truly were until kobe is gone. There will be nobody like these guys left in the NBA its just going to be all about whose the fastest whose the strongest. Whose the tallest. These guys are perfect specimens. I think of it like 2 exact copies of that female from the Resident Evil movies. and the Umbrella Corp. just keeps trying to make her again lmao.
Adrien Smith i know Kobe was a beast, winning 3 rings by the time he was 22. but there was a reason they called MJ "Air" Jordan. that dood was still going up while the defender was already going down.
***** Yes it does! That means you MAKE MORE SHOTS from the one's you take. Everybody knows this. MJ was a better scorer OVERALL. Only thing Kobe was better at is probably 3 point shooting but that's mostly due to MJ not taking that many 3's.
+SMDquicktime Yeah but there were some players that outperformed him overall. I don't believe in the best player in best team thing because that doesn't say who's most valuable it says who has the best team. But if you use the best team's best player logic then it was either him or Paul Pierce and Kobe is obviously better than Pierce
I know in the end, they're just points... but can we take a moment to acknowledge the degree of difficulty of most these shots, especially the 3's. Sheeeeesh. Talk about "God Mode."
Pete Hudo People say "Lebron drove Cleveland to the finals all by himself in 2007". Cavaliers were swept in the finals by San Antonio. Cavaliers ended 2nd in the East in the regular season with 61% win percentage. If they were in the West, they would end 6th and they would get swept by San Antonio in the first round of playoffs already. That's how weak the East is right now. 12 of the last 17 finals (after the Bulls and MJ era) were won by West. What does that mean? 2007 Cavs got swept in the finals. Heat barely made it through San Antonio one time, but the second time Spurs manhandled them with 4-1 and 70+ points differential in the series. If referee wasn't in favor of flopping and he didn't screw up Ginobilli over some imaginary fouls, Lebron could easily become the first guy ever that got swept out of the finals twice. There are always 2-3 teams in the West that could win against the Eastern champions.
He’s wearing Jordan’s because the last game the wizards played against the lakers that season and won Jordan told Kobe he would never fill his shoes. And Kobe was pisssssssed. Gilbert arenas mentioned about it in his podcast
@@dracoreloaded5092 Naw he's wearing Jordans cause Jordan told him the game they met before Kobe could try all he wants but will never fill mjs shoes. So Kobe took it to heart and wore Jordans and torched him in his own Shoes 😂 Look it up fr
How to hate on Kobe Bryant Step 1 - Have no knowledge over the game of basketball Step 2 - Ignore all the good stats and accomplishments and use the bad and irrelevant stats
42pts at the half isnt much to Kobe... he had *55pts* in a half during his 81pt game in 2006 and had *62pts* in 3 quarters during the mavs lol kobe was unstoppable in his prime
im telling you, ull never see this again people back then kobe was in a league id even think kevin durant could be in right now i mean wtf with his scoring
The thing I liked about this game, was like it felt almost like the original Master trying to see personally himself if the Apprentice truly gets what it takes to be Master. I feel that Jordan was happy passing that torch to Kobe, after what Kobe showed.
+chookalatemuffin You already know it's Lebron whether you like it or not. And DWade is before KD but also AD is coming up with KD once Lebron retires.
Like at that time there were a lot of good players like AI, Ray Allen, Street Mac, VC, etc. But one stood out more than the others, so I don't look at it as a torch passing I'm looking at it as who's going to outshine the rest in the tail of 6-7 years...who's going to win multiple championships, is there going to be a Rivalry? Will somebody come in and destroy, or will a baby face player have a break out season and continue to be great. You won't know who gets the "Torch until that person comes...never know what if it happened to be Victor Oladipo, or a Andrew Wiggins, what if it an Alec Burks or a Gordon Hayward, you never know? But can't wait to see...
gotohellpunk Carried by Gasol? Seriously? Kobe averaged 14 and 10 points more than Gasol in 2009/2010. If you actually watched the games maybe you could come up with a better argument though.
LeBron is a alltime great there's no denying that !! He can bring more to a team than kobe but kobe has the ability to carry a whole team in crucial times unlike lebron !!! Ofcourse lebron shoots a higher percentage most his shots are dunks and layups !! But kobe is head n shoulders above lebron scoring the ball it'll be a long time before we see someone who can drop 60 or 70 3 games in a row like kobe !!!
No one will ever match Kobe's Work Ethic , Overall Skill , (HAS EVERYTHING Michael has plus better long range jumper, LeBron no where near, ) and passion for winning and the game of basketball
Kendall graves Only thing he lacked was discipline, consistency, Jordan's elevation, Jordan's jumper, Jordan's footwork, etc. He's a better 3 point shooter, that's it.
Kendall graves "HAS EVERYTHING Michael has plus better long range jumper." That's quite a false statement. He definitely did not have everything MJ had plus a better long range jumper. Perhaps he was a better 3 point shooter, but Jordan had a much more versatile skill set inside the 3 point line. MJ was a more consistent mid range shooter, better post player, MUCH more athletic in his prime, much better vertical, much quicker, much better at driving to the basket and finishing with spectacular layups or dunks with either hand, much better at creating an open shot, etc. Jordan in his prime, when he was at his athletic peak, could do a LOT more than Kobe could ever do. Trust me on that one.
+Michael L kobe couldn't help the athletic thing that's something your born with and mj was just born better so you can't really hold that against kobe
Drake Dayton Who says I'm holding it against him? I'm just discussing their differences, and pointing out that his original statement (kobe HAS EVERYTHING Michael has plus better long range) was false. Kobe accomplished a ton with less athleticism, so that's quite impressive.
The match up prior to this, Jordan at the end of a game where the Wizards beat the Lakers in Washington, jordan said to kobe "You may wear my shoes, but you'll never fill 'em" Kobe didn;t talk to his teammates for a week, and then they played THIS game where Kobe gave 'em 55. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sSjK2ScywhU.html
funny how 55 points seems disappointing in this game lol. Kobe should've had at least 70! the shots he was making was beyond ridiculous, I think only person that can come remotely close today is Stephen Curry, maybe Kevin Durant. Kobe is out of this world
Best example of "passing the torch" I've ever seen. And I think this was when MJ knew it as well. No one is comparing the two in this game, but it's important to note that Kobe did what he should in this situation. He's at home. He'll be forever linked to MJ. It's his time to take the reigns and take the old dog to the back of the woodshed. It was time. (and I'm not insulting MJ by saying that. People love their dogs and still realize the time to put them down. we love MJ, but this was time).
But that wouldn't be realistic now is it? He'd proven he can go pass 80+ points but I don't like a ball hog either but none the less, a great player, we will never see him in this condition again
Michael L. Are you fucking kidding me? Not realistic? He had 42 points he easily got in the first half... shit he could of gotten 100 points that very night if would of kept shooting the ball in the second half.
Old timers in the comment section still love to hate on Kobe. Love to use his failures and never look at what he accomplished. Yeah we know what Jordan did and revolutionized the game but look what kobe did. He did as much and maybe has had overcame more then Jordan will ever have. Just goes to show that kobe excelled tremendously over his career .
bullshit you know sports are all statistics and politics! with that being said kobe deserved just as much as jordan did but you know they dont want his legacy tarnished with another great individual like kobe who yes followed in jordans footsteps and should have had at least 4 Mvps 4FMVPS And at most 4 scoring titles but thats my opinion.
In this game KOBE 25yrs old MJ 40yrs old If only the 1988 MJ at 25yrs old who played this game, It would've have been a showstopper performance, we all know if MJ sees an opponent trying to outshine him, we all know he would've taken it personal and would've try to stop the opponent by his elite defensive ability and MJ would've definitely scores higher than his opponent, so we would see MJ score 60+pts in this game or even higher since there's no hand checking In 1988, MJ at 25yrs old, he was the: - Regular Season MVP - Defensive Player of the Year - Scoring Champion - Steals Leader - All NBA 1st Team - All Defensive 1st Team - All Star MVP - Slamdunk Champion (All in 1 Season)
I don t understand, why nobody has mentioned one of the most important facts when comparing Lebron vs Kobe: LEBRON is not a typical shooting guard, he is much more of a small forward (eventhough he can play multiple positions) and KOBE is a prototype shooting guard, exactly like MJ - and that s why is fair to compare Kobe with MJ. But if u want to compare these three legends - follow my arguments: Here is my opinion and because I m a 33 year old fan of the game, who has been watching NBA for almost 3 decades, I don t care what other people think and I have seen all three greats play in their prime: There is and always will be only one Michael Jordan, exactly like there is and always will be only one Kobe and the same goes for Lebron. Now, having said that - I think that MJ and Lebron are better overal players (Lebron is better passer and more unsellfish than Kobe), but Kobe in his prime was way more competetive than Lebron and resulting from that, he was also a better defender than Lebron (I don t care about stats and awards in this category - stats are always a lil subjective and misleading) - Kobe always wanted to guard the best player on oposing teams, just like MJ. When comparing Lebron with Kobe - let s not forget about one important fact: western conference has been for many years much harder and better than east and Kobe was still killin it year after year, dominating oposing teams. Kobe to me is the best offensive weapon and player from all three of them and once again, I don t care as much about stats - when Kobe got hot, nobody could stop him, NOBODY - and even Phil Jackson said it once, that KOBE was more unstoppable offensively once on fire, than MJ. When speaking about offense and offense only - The most talented and versatile scorers of all time are: KOBE, MJ, AI and the best shooter of all time, Mr. Steph the 2015 - 2016 soon 2 be MVP Curry. Each one of them had different scoring attributes, KOBE and MJ being the most similar (both standing at 6´6), but think about how would it turn out, if AI was 5 - 6 inches taller (that would be scary). Now back to the MJ, KOBE and LEBRON battle - there are many more ways to argue in this disscussion, but nobody gives a damn about my opinion anyway. :-) LAST, BUT NOT LEAST, here is something 2 think about: Why would u hate on any of these three legends???????!!!!!!!! Let s not hate and compare, but appreciate, love and be glad that we all were there - watching them put on a show night after night. That s why WE ALL LOVE THIS GAME. MJ passed the torch 2 KOBE, who passed it 2 Lebron and now (eventhough he maybe doesn t want 2 yet) Lebron is slowly, but surely being surpassed by the reigning MVP Steph Curry. That s the natural flow of the game and it happens 2 everyone. Congrats to everybody, who had the patience 2 read this through. :-)
Who's here after the tragic news. R.I.P Kobe Bryant, gianna Bryant. And the 7 other victims. I literally grew up with kobe his whole and he's gone like that. Never take life for granted folks, cuz it can be snatched from you just like that.
The day Kobe could have broken all the records: > 100 points (easily was at 42 at the half not many shots after 4:32 left) > 12 3-pointers in a game (Kobe's own record -> was at 8 at the half) > 10 3-pointers in a half (currently at 10 by chandler parsons)
Richard Liang scoring has a lot to do with the flow of the game though. being at 42 at the half, easy or not, doesn't mean he had a chance to hit 100. I mean Klay Thompson made that 34 in a quarter look stupid easy, but I don't expect him to score 130 in a game any time soon haha.
Tom Jones Very good point. Or when Kobe had a 30 point quarter against the Jazz, that's like saying he could have gone for 120 that game lol. Scoring is a streaky thing, and it's tough to keep it up at that level for an entire game. Players have often exploded for a quarter or a half here and there, but they can almost never keep it going a full 48 minutes at that level.
Michael L Exactly. I was wrong about Klay, he actually had 37, 31 of which came in 7:50... that rate of scoring comes up to almost 200 and we all know that isn't happening.
Michael L hell, reggie Jackson had 9 in 8 seconds once... and we can't forget the day Tmac went for 13 in 35, best sports youtube video ever lol. Did you read about that D3 player from Wisconsin who scored like 170? Kobe tweeted about it when it happened. Kid shot like 92 threes in the game
"If I was on the other side, there's no way I would have been in at the end of that game without six fouls," Jordan said Tuesday. "I don't know if I could have given up 81 points and not fouled out of the game."
Its like the passing of the torch by Jordan to Kobe during this era. Kobe was the man! Will Lebron ever score 81 pts in a game? Will Lebron ever win a Slam Dunk title let alone join one contest? Will Lebron ever win 5 NBA Championships before his career is over with the shadow of Stephen Curry looming over him? I'm not a Lebron hater don't get me wrong, but Lebron surpassing the achievements of Kobe is yet to be seen! Now, Kobe has had a great career and no need to bash him! Kobe will be missed when he retires!
+Roland Tecson idk about that if Kobe didn't sustain those devastating injuries so late in his career. The year where he tore his achilles he was 35 dunking on everyone. Maybe if he didn't sustain those injuries he could play into his 40's
This is one element of lebrons game that I will be interested to see if he ever develops now that his shooting is improving so much. Kobe can go on tears where its just impossible jumper after impossible jumper, he is so unbelievable to watch.
14-16 from the field, 8-9 on 3 point shots, with 4 minutes left in the first half. Practically outscored the Wizards by himself , and the degree of difficulty and efficiency. Put some respect on Kobe’s name in the GOAT discussion
people trying to thumbs down your comment cuz they know its true and just think that no one is comparable to mj but kobe is really right up there with him
People who actually SAW those games know Kobe was the most important player on the team. I didn't even watch ESPN back then. Just my eyes and the magnificent performances.
