This was my personal favorite performance by him. Imo even more impressive than his 81 point game. Outscoring an entire NBA team who made it to the finals that season in just three quarters was absolutely insane. Kobe was a different beast
Fun Fact: Kobe Bryant is the ONLY PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY to ever outscore an entire NBA team by HIMSELF through 3 quarters. Even the great WILT never did it, not even ONCE. This might very well be the most impressive scoring performance in NBA HISTORY. And he sat out part of the 2nd quarter! The GOAT!
Couldn't have said it better even though he has amazing stats, the boxscores don't even do him justice either!!!You really had to be there to fully appreciate his greatness
@@JanRey526 Bro these people confuse the MAP for the ACTUAL TERRAIN. Let that sink in. Kobe had to be seen to be appreciated, you can't extract his genius, his greatness, his effervescence from a freaking box score. You had to SEE him to appreciate him. Lebron can never be on Kobe's level. I saw what I saw. Lebron's PED use is the only reason why he's even in this conversation but people don't want to have this conversation. I wouldn't even bring this up if his athleticism wasn't so central to his style of play but it is, and PEDs enhance athleticism not skill. Kobe is the GOAT imo. Bronsexuals and hardcore MJ stans are the only ones who say ret*rded stuff like "overrated." And Kobe OWNED Duncan in the playoffs. The Kobe-Hate has a few techniques: OVERRATE Kobe's supporting cast Call him "inefficient" Call him a "ball hog Call him a "bad teammate" Pretend like Pau is the player Anthony Davis is. I always have one simple question. Shaq had like 10 prime years, if not more, without Kobe. How come he could only win 1 ring without Kobe since he was gosh darn "dOmiNaNt?" And I love Shaq, top 10 player all time EASY. But the Kobe hate is so irrational we need to push back on that garbage.
Kobe reached a level of basketball where he was no longer playing against one guy but more so entire schemes + double teams. Special mastery of scoring the ball man
@@isiahcowan5888 Facts. Kobe Bryant is shooting guard that has almost averaged almost 5 assists for his career and has more assists than any shooting guard in the history of the game
@@dadillonful dumbest comment ever. Who was he gonna pass to anyways? Smush Parker, Brian cook? Chris mihm? Kwame brown?? The fact he avg 5 assists with them is a miracle.
@@ChrissS3630 Supposedly more in the Zone that night than the 81 😱 Ppl who say Harden or any non-Jordan is a better scorer than Kobe should be beaten w/ a salted rubber hose & locked in an overturned port-o-potty.
Agree w/ OP-- he may be most skilled ever. MJ was more efficient, but he was also significantly more athletic w/ much bigger hands. Able to get easier shots more easily, especially in the first stint of his career.
Yeah he had a rolling that particular game. The next game he shot like shit against Memphis. Scored 13 points on 38.5% shooting from the floor. So like Shane said, it all evens out.
Well, I think Marquis Daniels was defending Kobe on several possessions, and Daniels isn't a great defensive player. As a team, the Mavs were an elite defensive team.
@@kanajingly8957ain’t that the same team that beat lebron after failing his home town after being favored to win the east then joins another top 5 player and another guy putting up 20 and 10? And still couldn’t get it done your under almost every comment hating on kobe get it together
@@penkima4923 Doesn't matter go listen to Dirk on the Dwayne Wade's "The Why" and you can see it here. Daniels wasn't just solo guarding Kobe. They tried everything double, triple teams and nothing helped. Same thing happens a few games later when he got 81 from the Toronto Raptors. Kobe was just unstoppable that season but Championships require consistency and will from the team. You don't have to have All Stars, but everyone has to be all in on the gameplan to get it done.
He got robbed several times. Shaq only has one MVP and is on a LOT of top 5 lists. So the only one MVP BS is just that, BS. He deserved at LEAST 3, I would argue 5: 2006/2007, 2008, 2009/2010 (60+wins in the west, led the NBA in GW shots with 10, the literal difference between 1st seed in a stacked west and missing the freaking playoffs, oh and Pau missed like 27 games that year). MVPs are VOTED on. His 12 ALL NBA Defense Teams, MOST ALL TIME, should more than make up for it. MJ should've won like 10 MVPs, the award is a joke. Steve Nash has as many MVPs as Kobe and Shaq COMBINED because it's a JOKE of an award that undervalues defense.
@@Janon743Ive never met a real NBA player, like in REAL life, who doesnt have Kobe top 5. Dead ass. Go ask ANY ACTUAL NBA player: ALL have Kobe top 5. Not top 10. Top 5. Barkley has Kobe over Lebron. Dirk has Kobe over Lebron. Wade, HIS OWN TEAMMATE, has Kobe over Lebron. Bosh, his OWN TEAMMATE, has Kobe over Lebron. Maybe i hang around too many hoopers who like scorers, but everybody i know has Kobe top 5. Outscoring a 60-win NBA finalist team through 3 quarters in a low pace/scoring era & pre-3PT era. This might be the greatest scoring performance of all-time.
Yeah but he didn't do it every time. The next time he faced the Grizzlies he scored just 13 points for 4 quarters on 38.5% shooting. You can look it up the date was February 1, 2002. Also the first time rookie shane faced kobe which was on November 9, 2001 Kobe actually only scored 13 points again on 5-15 shooting (33%). Also kobe didn't score over 60 in that game against rookie Shane, he scored actually 56 in 3 quarters on efficient shooting. He had it rolling that night. But overtime like Shane said, the numbers played in the defender's favour.
It’s not as much as the numbers evening out as it is making certain players take certain shots. Great Defenders had to just play the % game that mainly includes not fouling.
22-25 FT shows his tremendous accuracy. Not so great body dimensions, no demonstration of sheer strength, just pure technique....Kobe was a great example of practice making a man perfect!
Kobe had a wingspan of around 7-feet, while I'd say average for a 6'6 guy might be like a 6'10 wingspan. And, Kobe did series of squats with 400 lbs. and bench-presses with 300 lbs.. Not sure about average lifts in the NBA, but those numbers sound big.
Kobe had nights where he would just go off. But those nights where he would go off came at the expense of several games where he was way off. Kobe was unstoppable when he would get in that zone, but it wasn't something he could actually turn on every night. And when he couldn't turn it on he could have some highly inefficient scoring nights. People who regularly watched Kobe play knew this, including Shane Battier.
@@kanajingly8957 I probably watched 75% of Kobe’s games. Watched every game certain seasons like 08-2010 never missed a game. I’m from Cali so I’m in the market. I’m not sure what you’re talking about? Making him sound inconsistent. Kobe just played in an inefficient era because the pace was so slow and most shots came against the set. But he almost always shot above league average fg% and TS% wise he’s right up there with most the volume shooters like Jordan, Tmac, Penny, Wade, Vince Carter, Arenas, etc. But yeah if you think he had a few good nights followed by a bunch of bad games you didn’t watch him. Or maybe you only watched him post 2012 after the injury.
In my opinion the most impressive offensive display of any player in NBA history. Only other display that's on the same level is Jordan in Boston in the playoffs. More impressive than the 81 point game. More impressive than Klay's 37 point quarter. Just ridiculous in all ways imaginable.
Kob, ik u can hear me bro U would have dropped 92 this game I wish u stayed into the 4th but you are too disciplined about basketball You’re literally the opposite of a stat padder GOAT
Nawl kobe would have definitely dropped 90 plus if he played the 4th. He had more points this game in the 3rd than he did in the 3rd against the raptors
It’s wild to me he didn’t go for Wilt’s record here. The way he ended the third he had so much momentum. 39 would’ve been tough but he could’ve gotten close as hell
I know they were up 95-61, and realistically taking Kobe out was the smart play... But damn I wish he would've played that 4th quarter lol. I always wondered what he would've finished this game with.
