When the reporter says “championship level”, Kobe starts smiling but tries to hold it back. He starts naming the guys Gasol Bynum Odom etc and he could already see what was to possibly come
Joshua Han The greatest trade in Lakers history was for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the mid-70s. They traded four bench players for Kareem. That was the better version of the Gasol trade. Gasol was only good until about the 2011 or 2012 season. Kareem was great for every single Lakers team he played for; still the only player to win MVP as a member of a team that missed the playoffs back in 1977. It's either Kareem or Kobe if we're talking about a best Laker trade ever. Nothing else comes close. Not. Even. Close.
Nate Rivers Shaq was signed by the Lakers in 1996, as you probably know, and was traded to Miami in 2004 for Brian Grant, Caron Butler, and Lamar Odom (and possibly a pick or two, can't remember at the moment). Odom was the longest and most consistent piece afterward, but he's no Kobe or Kareem as far as trades are concerned. As far as biggest free agent signing in Lakers history, Shaq gets my vote, if that's what you meant as far as player transactions.
As a Spanish 17 year old kid at the time, this was the moment I started to get familiar with Kobe thanks to Pau being a laker and got interested in the NBA... Kobe then became my hero and I followed him ever since, nobody else apart from my close relationships has ever had the impact he's had in my life. I miss him so much. I miss not being able to listen to his opinions about life in general. The world is different now and I've been changed. I feel like such an idiot writing these lines that no one will read and I have been crying everyday since his death 2 weeks ago. He was a guy I expected to be around for the next 40 years making the world a better place. I hope t-mac, Shaq, Vanessa and everyone close to him carry on his legacy and somehow fill this huge void. Love you Kobe and Gigi, wherever you are 💔😭
Vinny FatStacks no there have been many of time ppl say oh that guys one of the greatest of all time. Like with rap people say Tupac is one of the greatest or with football they say Jerry rice is one of the greatest. Everyone has there own goat like mine is Lebron and this guys is Kobe and yours is Jordan
@@Tony_Miller Yeah but he did it first....further proving that Kobe could have won more with him if he just stopped thinking about himself and his legacy first
Hahaha, I love that part in the interview where Kobe is trying to not smile, but when the guy starts naming off his teammate, he couldn't help himself but to smile. Couldn't hold it back, I like that real emotion.
We got guns now... man I love you Kobe. Hope you’re really in a better place like you deserve... not only an idol on the court but an idol as a father and as a person in general. Nothing but respect to all of the Bryants. The whole world supports you.
History will remember them as an all time team. Three finals. Back to back champs. Two future Hall of Famers. Two all time very good players. A bunch of great role players. And possibly the greatest coach. They were a really cool squad to behold. They need to be on NBA 2K.
Easy to tell, Kobe had little idea they would win Back to Back Rings this day, Pau was traded. He didnt foresee just how great it would all come together. At the same time he was happy that the situation in LA had just got much better, but was not aware how great it has just become. In retrospect Kobe says he doesnt feel LA appreciate or knew just what Gasol meant to those 2 Rings. but at one point Gasol was just as vital to LA success as Kobe was, 8 years prior.
ShaWordPlay Jennings pau was the key to those teams winning titles.. the lakers front office just failed to adjust to the league as years passed.. they coulda won 2 more titles if that were the case
You can just tell kobe bryant is as excited as us laker fans are about this trade...having Pau on our team definitely will help us out down the road...and more importantly, we got a happy Kobe which will give us a HUGE lift night in and night out, just wait till bynum due back in 6 weeks and having pau gasol whom to be a more reliable go to guy....danmnnn i can't wait to see team all playing together!!! Lakers Dynasty coming soon near u!!!! hahaha
I remember very well that night when Gasol played his first laker match against Nets, i was 17 years old and i was in front of TV at 3 in the morning when at 7:00 i should get me up to go to school, i was so so nervous for Pau, i wished with all my sould he played right every ball he touched and that dream came true! And well the end of the dream is well known
Same here & it was @ new jersey too! I think he had like 33/14/7 or some shit 😭 took him like 4-5 weeks to nearly mastered the triangle when it takes most players years
You can tell Kobe is very excited about this trade of course, but he smiles a lot right at the 37 seconds mark of this video. That smile almost made me cry, because I am so happy now that he has that chance again win again!
I think it led to the happiest sport watching years of my life. Watching those Lakers was so sweet. Shaq and Kobe were better, but watching the Gasol group triumph over teams just as good showed a lot of heart.
yeah kobe was hideing a big smile on his face now he can smile even more now 2 titles later and on his way to a 3 straight title and go off into the sunset
One of the greatest trades they made. This made everyone try to compete with this lineup other teams acquiring players to match up with the Lakers. Didn't work as soon as the Lakers got Gasol BACK TO BACK TO BACK FINALS APPEARANCES
this off season has been fucking krazy damn' almost every team is upgrading to their roster unbelievable man wow))) can't wait for the new season is going to be explosive including the playoffs!
Mmm sad to see Pau leave the grizz back here in Memphis, but, Kobe along with Pau and the other Lakers will be an amazing future franchise. With Bynum back in the lineup and pau at the 4, Lamar back at 3, kobe with the 2 and fisher at point...whos gonna guard all those players? Amazing line up. Opponents won't find it esay to guard those elite players. Good pick up by the Lakers. Rudy will have to step up over here in memphis to become a franchise player. Good Luck to all Lakers fans!
BIGRAPS gasol has been 5 seasons averaging 19 ppg and 10 re bounds he was underrated and that´s why he didn´t made for the all star. Last year he was injured . He was an allstar in 2006 and now in 2008 . He´s on eof the best players in the world for sure. He won the world champion for spain, silver medal in beijing. WORLD CHAMP MVP. ROOKIE of the YEar.
@13q28 look at him now, against jazz he played amazingly well. last match was awesome, i think he's the best tall man in the NBA right now, i don't care if he's in the 1st 2nd or 3rd NBA team.
hahaha I cant stop looking at kobes smile on 0:37, hes trying to hold it in but he cant! we haven't seen him so happy in a long time LOL which means even he knows the LA Lakers are once again contenders!!
@skillarecords wow huge difference man, when kg the boston still got the east semis and were 1 win a away from east finals where as when gilbert went down butler and jamison couldnt get 40 wins to make the playoffs in the east. Also a all-star can stand on his own no matter who there playing. Pierce, grainger, melo, lebron always play decent no matter who the opposing team is. Wade, manu, kobe, roy, always seem to play well against who ever. Thats what seperates role players from all-stars.
Bynum, Odom, and Gasol....yet folks act like Kobe didn’t play with awesome talent and role players. I didn’t even mention who he played with in the beginning of his career, or the three peat era specifically.
@youngbo55 btw injuries in this last post season,parker-ankle,manu-broken nose,nash-cut eye,garnett-knee,okur-knee,kirlenko-knee,roy-knee,perkins-shoulder, lastly you cant play on a torn acl, it hurts to walk which is why okur didnt even play in the playoffs after game 2. Also you ever torn anyting, it is a ungodly pain. Kobe just had his knee drained in a couple of days he would of been fine and in my case felt better once able to run at 100% again.
@sde12345 the celtics were on in 08 tho! i think they're better now, but the competitions tougher. every successful team in their division is usually a super team w/ 3+ all stars (which is the trend in the nba now). lol they get breaks tho afterwards enough time to have their batteries as recharged as everyone else. and i think u just explained shannon brown. i think fisher still can be effective. id give him a chance to see what he does when he gets more touches.
