You’re completely right and I didn’t even think about that until you said it. It’s amazing how reading these comments gives you different perspectives on things in life. Whether it’s an ai or not, I love it lol
Phil started a dynasty in Chicago winning championships with the Goat then proceeds to go to LA to start another dynasty winning championships with a young prodigy 😂
@@bradleyboyer9979 true, but no coach in the history of sports has taking a crap roster and going on to win championships with it. Every great coach has had great players
Never understood why Phil always tried to keep Kobe on a short leash but allowed Jordan, Rodman and Shaq to do literally whatever the hell they wanted…….
Because Kobe was a youngster. He had 22. Mj had 27 and Shaq also had 28. They were more mature. And Rodman didn't shoot. In a WAY, Phil wanted Kobe to be better at 22 than MJ and Shaquille were.
I like the honesty of Phil saying he was irritated by that part of Kobe. Something to remember is that he got Kobe really young, whereas Michael was in his mid-late 20’s when Phil took over. To have a young, talented, wild animal like that was a new challenge for him as a coach.
@@rusted8157 yeah i agree. I don’t get mad when people rank magic over Kobe as a laker cuz he Meade basketball popular I just get mad when people say lebron is the goat of the lakers just cuz he won a bubble ring and is washed.
Kareem wasn't just at the game. He was telling the opposing bench how to shut him down. He took that personally and retaliated where it hurts, the scoreboard.
Kobe’s fatal flaw: his ego & putting his personal legacy ahead of his team. Still one of the greatest to ever do it & the hardest worker to ever lace them up. He out worked everyone.
If he put his personal legacy ahead of team, he and Shaq would have not won together and would have had far more conflict and earlier. He deferred a lot and recognized Shaq’s greatness. He only started to feel Shaq wasn’t worthy of it when he wouldn’t work hard. And it wasn’t going to last like that, so why would he commit to that long term? The problem is the sports talking heads and fans who can’t recognize greatness unless they see big numbers and rings. Scottie did that playing with Mike; sacrificed so much for team to win, then he got disrespected by his coach and still people act like MJ carried the Bulls. Then MJ disrespected him in his documentary. Harry did it and won 7 rings, and ppl say he doesn’t deserve HOF. Yes, Kobe wanted to be the greatest he could be. But, the sports world dictated the terms. He just responded to it. Show me the players who had success after playing with Kobe that he should have passed the ball to? The only one you can point to is Shaq who played behind Wade (when he wasn’t willing to do it for Kobe). Shaq won one and then fell of a cliff and went chasing the next best thing to kobe city to city to try to win one.
@@pureagape Wow… 🤦🏼♂️ One of the most incoherent delusional responses I’ve ever read. There’s is almost nothing worth even responding to because you’re so confused it’s embarrassing, but I’m going to educate you: #1 “if he put his personal legacy ahead of the team they would not have won”… 😆 Shaq was the MVP that carried that 3 peat squad!!! Kobe averaged 15 pts per game in their first Finals. They could still win because they had the best player in the world & other good player around him & also had Phil Jackson!!! The point is they should’ve won WAY MORE!! If you paired a young MJ or a young Lebron with a prime Shaq they’d have won an EASY 6+ titles because they’re TEAM PLAYERS!!!! The Kobe & Shaq pairing should have been far more successful & Kobe’s ego is the reason it failed!!! #2 “Shaq wasn’t worthy cause he didn’t want to work hard”.. That’s DEMONSTRABLY FALSE!! It was Shaq who carried those teams & won 3 FMVP’s while Kobe LITERALLY cost the Lakers the Detroit series for being selfish, playing hero ball & trying to win the FMVP to prove he wasn’t just a #2 in the process the Lakers got crushed & Kobe’s numbers were a complete JOKE!! Kobe’s numbers were: 22/2/4/2/0 shooting a 38% FG efficiency & a pathetic 45% TS! He led the team in turnovers, played the most minutes & took 30 more FG attempts than Shaq & scored 20 LESS points! His Offensive Rating was a laughable 90.00 & his Defensive Rating was a poor 108.00!! His Game Score for the series was ONLY 11.6!!!! His selfishness literally cost the Lakers the title as they were EASILY the better team. Meanwhile, Shaq averaged 27/11 on 63% FG with an Offensive Rating of 111.00 & a Defensive Rating of 106.00!! Kobe tried to play hero ball being selfish & literally cost the Lakers the title because of his EGO!!!! #3 “Scottie did that with Mike”… 😆 The same Scottie Pippen that pouted on the bench & took himself out of the game because Phil Jackson decided Kukoc was going to shoot the last shot, so Pippen literally QUIT ON HIS TEAM in the playoffs just like Kobe did in 06’ when the Lakers were up 3-1 on Phoenix & they LOST!!! MJ did carry the Bulls that’s a demonstrable FACT! MJ won 2/6 titles with NO OTHER ALL-STAR on the roster & MJ didn’t “disrespect shit” you’re fucking delusional! MJ said great things about Pippen, so you’re wrong again!!!! Scottie was selfish too he was just never good enough to be anything other than a 2nd option & still tot his day doesn’t regret quitting on his team in the playoffs!! MJ made Pippen, without MJ Pippen is nothing more than a random All-Star that never won anything in his life! #4 “Horry did it & won 7 rings”… 🤦🏼♂️ Robert Horry was a role player/journeyman that played for multiple dynasties: Rockets, Lakers & Spurs. At best he was once or twice the 3rd best player on his team! He’s completely irrelevant to this discussion! 🤦🏼♂️ #5 “show me the player that had success after Kobe that he should pass the ball to”… 🤦🏼♂️ What an obtuse statement! It has nothing to do with that moron! These other players are NBA players & it’s ALWAYS better to pass to open teammates than it is to shoot into 4 defenders while teammates stand there wide open!!! #6 “wasn’t willing to do it for Kobe”… That’s false too! It had NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT!!! At the time Shaq was the far better player (the best player in the world) so of course Kobe would be the #2!! When Shaq went to Miami he was getting older & Wade was young with fresh legs so he carried the weight & Shaq was became the 2nd option! You really are completely clueless how all this works. You’ve formed some nonsense imaginary conclusions that are NOT based in reality!!!
62 in 3 quarters would mean you'd have to break the single quarter scoring record currently held by Klay, in the 4th, just to equal 100. Not saying that's completely impossible for Kobe, but ain't no way you can call that "easy" by any stretch of the imagination. All those stat lines you mentioned, none of them are on pace for 90 pts, much less 100. 100 pts is one of the most out-of-reach scoring records in basketball. We're talking about a record where the guy who came closest to it came short by 19 pts. In order to say a player could have "easily scored over 100 pts", a player should be posting stat lines of at least 80 pts in 3 quarters. I'm not even a Wilt fanboy. I think the man heavily benefited from the ridiculous pace of 60s basketball to reach those absurd scoring records. But just saying, I'm not holding my breath for anyone in my lifetime breaking that record, much less doing that "easily".
@@GlassOnion23 Your wrote way too much just to say that it wouldn’t have been easy… My use of the word easy was simply to underscore Kobe’s ability to turn it up and take it to another level with an ease that most players find impossible to do in their entire career even once! I am fully aware that the stat line I provided was not exactly on pace for 100 points. I mentioned it because despite playing within a system, especially one as highly complex as the triangle offense, Kobe still managed to tare into his opponent’s in spectacular fashion with ease! This was common for Kobe as he proved this with regularity, hence my use of the word [easy]. From there all I did was suggest that Kobe could have reached the century mark multiple times had he broken away from the triangle more often. All you are doing is red herring and nitpicking one word. At the end of the day it is my opinion and just because don’t like it doesn’t make it invalid.
@@fucyahoo Sorry man but I don't see how my post was a red herring. The discussion as I see it is the true extent of Kobe's greatness. You say he could have easily scored 100 points multiple times. I explained why I don't think he could have. I apologize if I was too wordy but I've never liked exaggeration or hyperbole in almost all areas of life. In this case, it does nothing when trying to define what a player truly was capable of. I thought you were consciously grossly exagerrating Kobe's abilities as a scorer but it turns out you genuinely believe he was that good, which is fine as a point of discussion. Look, I fuckin love Kobe. I grew up in a country where Kobe was a god, our generation's MJ, and because of that, I was able to catch almost all his legendary games live. I know Kobe was a scorer who can light it up in any given game like almost no other and yet I've never watched any game of his and seriously thought "This is it. Kobe's getting 100". Not even when I was completely having my mind blown watching him on the way to 81. 100 pts is such an out of reach target from a very different era which even then required a lot of unrepeatable circumstances to make happen. But just to hammer this point home, Wilt himself never got close to 100 ever again despite playing in an era with around 30 more possessions available to inflate stats with. And no one else in league history has gotten close since. Anyway, post got too long again but just to be clea, I wasn't denigrating Kobe, invalidating your point of view, nor even was looking to get into an argument necessarily even though that's what happened. Peace.
This guy hating is a weirdo 😂.. Kobe could have easily scored a 💯 Just think and be honest with yourself. Imagine him coming into the league and being UNLEASHED the way Jordan was his first 6-7 seasons in Chicago those wear the years Air Jordan was born. just think 💭 what Kobe would have done to the league. Phil Jackson kept the chains on Shaq was there… Kobe would have DESTROYED the league 😂 RIP MAMBA
When you listen to alot of the things phil says kobe didnt really listen to well to coaching, did things against the rules, didnt follow game plans, didnt get his teammates more involved, etc etc etc. He sure could put that little round ball through that little metal cylinder though
👩🔬 👨🏾🔬 🧑🔬 👩🔬 👨🏾🔬 👨🏾🔬 👩🔬 🧑🔬 *all looking at a wild animal acting wild* “What’s he doing?” 🧌 “He knows he’s here… he’s showing him how good he is…”
Phil Jackson is just, so freaking wise He is the Aristotle of the NBA He was so on-point about the tendencies of the #8 Kobe (the young one) I always hated the #8 Kobe, but #24 Kobe I liked a whole lot better
Phil stopped Kobe from breaking so many records. Atleast 3 times I can remember kobe had 50+ through 3 qtrs and didn’t play the 4th qtr. nowadays these coaches allow players to dictate how long they want to play.
I 've always thought Phil Jackson Held back Kobe's game to be showcased. Those 50-60 pts in 3 quarters and be benched in the 4th really is the reason why Kobe did not make as many Scoring Titles that He should have had in his career.
Irritated? You got lucky Phil, I think you’re a good coach, but damn, you were gifted the top SGs, if not players, of all damn time. Rephrase, won you championships
These game highlights don’t belong with the game Phil is referring to. How do I know. Scottie was on the rockets for one season: the shortened 1999 season, and Phil didn’t coach the Lakers until the 1999-2000 season when Scottie was on the Blazers.
Kobe trying to impress Jordan by dropping 40 points in the first half proves he didn't really understand the reason Jordan is the GOAT. What makes Jordan the GOAT is that he's the most complete player to ever play, there were no holes in his game. Yes Jordan could beat you with his scoring but he didn't have to. Jordan could beat people mentally, beat them with defense, passing, rebounding, ball handling, and with hustle. What makes him so great was that he made everyone around him better.
Gone 3 yrs this month never forgotten truly was a Michael Jordan clone was 15 and a half yrs younger, better shooter deeper range. 8-23-78 was a special moment.
Man, I grew up a hardcore Kobe fan only celebrity I can say I truly Idolized and my daughter was born 8/23/21… will always be a super special day to me now
MJ could make points anywhere on the court. He proved that in another short already. MJ played more games without the 3 point line being in effect. This changes total statistics based on the past players not being able to get the points they made back then that would count now. That is why the Record an stats need to be two different set of sheets an show in two separate prospectives.
Yeah, God forbid Kobe put on a show for the fans. He was a COMPETITOR. Why does it shock people that he might want to show off once in a while. Shut up Phil.
