I was a bird fan til he's back went out. Shortened his career badly. Then it was all Jordan. Kobe tried his hardest, penny, tmac, drexler, Carter, Mello, Lebron, Steph, KD, the just fell short. Nothing to be ashamed about fighting for second is honorable.

MJ was in class by himself. The greatest basketball player ever in my opinion. One thing I have to disagree on . Jordan didn't have Deion Sanders type speed. Prime Time ran a low 4.2 in the 40 . Deion was so fast he ran down Bo Jackson when FSU played Auburn. Let's just say Deion wasn't successful at tackling Bo (lol). Michael Jordan is the greatest.

It's not debatable at all to me, there are at least 5 players I'd take over him in the draft. Bird dominated Jordan, It was a joke when Jordan tried to guard Bird, I was there to see almost every game till the end of 87. Do you know how many times the chant came up over rated? Magic was the best guard of all by far. Magic could play all 3 spots, nobody else could do that.

@@user-nj2vv2xm4jMan stfu. This is basketball only. Even when Bird and the Celtics beat the Bulls in 86, nobody in the Celtics could guard him. Celtics better be lucky that Jordan had average players around him while Boston had a starting 5 Hall of Famers. Don’t get started with Magic now, Jordan gave him the work in the finals and when The Dream Team had an exhibition game, Magic talk shit to Jordan and his team, Jordan turn into a complete different player! MJ did a god damn 360 tongue out and dunked it! Out floating everybody! He destroyed half of the Dream Team! After all that, Larry and Magic didn’t want no smoke with Jordan.

The fact that while Michael Jordan didn't play a single second for the Miami Heat, the franchise still retired his No. 23 jersey in April of 2003 as a sign of respect to him and his achievements. MJ was the first player ever to have his jersey retired with a team he never played for. ... which is also why LeBron couldn't wear number 23 while playing for Miami.

This man, in my opinion, is without a shadow of a doubt the best and most gifted player I’ve ever seen touch a basketball. I watched him from the time he started until the time he finalized retiring. He molded me as an athelete and he made me work harder to better my skills. There has never been another basketball player or athelete in general to motivate me more than this man. He’s just a once in a lifetime type of individual. As long as i breathe air I believe there will never be anyone to surpass his greatness. His hunger to get better and better those around him will never be matched and I’m just blessed that I got to witness him and the things he did on a basketball court. I find the comparisons comical and they used to irritate and anger me lol but I guess it comes with the territory and it’s just part of competition. I just know you can’t compare him to anyone…..AT ALL! Some people are just in their own category and he will forever stand alone in the one he created. Wilt ha seven consecutive scoring titles eleven rebounding titles one assist title 9 field goal percentage titles and if blocks were a stat during his career he would have ten or more of those. He would also have several steals titles. If MJ played during Wilts era he may not have any scoring titles because he sure isn't going into the paint.

Basketball Reference has a stat called Game Score which measures a player's individual contribution on the court in any particular game. It rewards points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and penalizes missed shots, turnovers and fouls. It's designed to look like points scored (20 is good, 30 is great, 40 is elite). What's great about this stat is that we can eliminate the whole "he had better teammates/tougher opposition" argument. If someone is the best player on the floor and loses, you can't blame him, and if he's not the best player on the floor and wins, it doesn't help his GOAT case. By average Game Score, here are the leaders in every playoff series Jordan has played in. 1985 First Round (Milwaukee): Jordan 24.6, Moncrief 23.2 1986 First Round (Boston): Jordan 30.6, McHale 25.8 1987 First Round (Boston): Jordan 26.9, Bird 26.7 1988 First Round (Cleveland): Jordan 34.0, Price 19.6 1988 EC Semis (Detroit): Jordan 20.4, Thomas 16.8 1989 First Round (Cleveland): Jordan 30.9, Nance 17.3 1989 EC Semis (New York): Jordan 31.8, Ewing 18.0 1989 EC Finals (Detroit): Jordan 21.4, Thomas 15.3 1990 First Round (Milwaukee): Jordan 28.2, Pippen 22.4, Robertson 17.2 1990 EC Semis (Philadelphia): Jordan 35.5, Barkley 21.9 1990 EC Finals (Detroit): Jordan 24.8, Thomas 16.2 1991 First Round (New York): Jordan 26.1, Pippen 17.7, Grant 10.9, Armstrong 10.8, Ewing 8.9 1991 EC Semis (Philadelphia): Jordan 27.2, Barkley 24.2 1991 EC Finals (Detroit): Jordan 26.3, Pippen 20.2, Johnson 17.0 1991 NBA Finals (Los Angeles): Jordan 29.4, Johnson 20.0 1992 First Round (Miami): Jordan 38.4, Pippen 24.5, Seikaly 15.9 1992 EC Semis (New York): Jordan 20.7, Ewing 15.9 1992 EC Finals (Cleveland): Jordan 22.7, Pippen 17.4, Nance 16.1 1992 NBA Finals (Portland): Jordan 25.8, Drexler 18.4 1993 First Round (Atlanta): Jordan 26.7, Wilkins 18.0 1993 EC Semis (Cleveland): Jordan 23.3, Nance 15.3 1993 EC Finals (New York): Jordan 24.4, Ewing 20.7 1993 NBA Finals (Phoenix): Jordan 29.6, Barkley 23.4 1995 First Round (Charlotte): Jordan 23.2, Mourning 18.9 1995 EC Semis (Orlando): Jordan 21.6, O'Neal 20.4 1996 First Round (Miami): Pippen 22.7, Jordan 22.3, Kukoc 10.3, Harper 10.0, Hardaway 9.3 1996 EC Semis (New York): Jordan 24.3, Ewing 15.0 1996 EC Finals (Orlando): Jordan 23.9, O'Neal 21.0 1996 NBA Finals (Seattle): Kemp 18.9, Jordan 18.5 1997 First Round (Washington): Jordan 28.0, Murray 15.7 1997 EC Semis (Atlanta): Jordan 20.9, Pippen 16.4, Blaylock 15.7 1997 EC Finals (Miami): Jordan 18.7, Hardaway 11.6 1997 NBA Finals (Utah): Jordan 23.4, Malone 16.8 1998 First Round (New Jersey): Jordan 25.7, Pippen 16.2, Douglas 14.5 1998 EC Semis (Charlotte): Jordan 20.7, Pippen 16.9, Rice 13.6 1998 EC Finals (Indiana): Jordan 22.4, Pippen 13.0, Kukoc 12.6, Miller 11.6 1998 NBA Finals (Utah): Jordan 21.5, Malone 18.5 Out of 37 total playoff series, MJ was the best player on the floor in 35 of them. And even the two where he wasn't are within a very small margin of error, didn't hurt his team (they won both) and are very easily explained. The 1996 first round series vs Miami was a sweep, all three games were blowouts, and Jordan only played 34.3 minutes per game. The 1996 NBA Finals vs. Seattle saw Jordan have a very rare bad game in game 4 where his Game Score was 9.8. This dragged his average down beneath Shawn Kemp's. But, the Bulls entered game 4 with a 3-0 series lead, which means that if you have to have a bad game, that's the time to do it, you can hardly call it a choke job. To be fair, LeBron was also the best player on the court far more often than not in his playoff history, but the number of times where he wasn't is far greater than 2, and many of those occasions, it wasn't that close. Not even picking on LeBron, check out any other player since 1984 (when this stat was first available, can't comment on Russell or Wilt), and you will not find anybody who was as consistently dominant in the playoffs, win or lose. This (among many other reasons) is why MJ is the GOAT. EDIT: Here is how Jordan compares to others who come up in GOAT discussions, along with a couple of relative new players who potentially could. (Note: Bird and Magic's numbers are incomplete, they start in 1984, when the stat is first available). The first number is how many series the player had the highest GS by more than 1 point, the second is how many times he had the highest GS, but it was by less than a point, the third is when he trailed the GS leader by less than a point, and the fourth is when he trailed the leader by more than a point. Michael Jordan: 34-1-2-0 Larry Bird: 11-1-2-9 Magic Johnson: 11-5-3-11 Hakeem Olajuwon: 18-1-1-8 Shaquille O'Neal: 19-1-1-23 Kobe Bryant: 10-4-2-27 Tim Duncan: 14-3-3-28 LeBron James: 38-0-7-8 Steph Curry: 9-1-1-17 Giannis Antetokounmpo: 10-0-0-5 Nikola Jokic: 5-1-1-5 This shows two things. One, I'm not picking on LeBron, this stat actually solidifies his case as the number 2 player of all time. But, still, the gulf between MJ and the rest of the field is Secretariat-at-the-Belmont-Stakes level.

Boston and Bird swept Jordan. He was not the best player on the court Bird was and it showed when the game was on the line. Jordan Choked, Bird didn't. Bird won MVP 3 times, Jordan was playing around that time. For two I think. Jordan got wrecked his fist 7 years, when the best players were old or retired he got to win.

Michael Jordan's most impressive 'fact' is that he was a straight killer when the game was on the line. When it mattered in the playoffs you heard him, in the finals 3 for 3 facing elimination. He was 4 for 7 in other similar games. When game was on the line, he shot 50%... he shot 50% against the 2nd best teams in the NBA AND THEY KNEW HE WAS TAKING THE SHOT. Think about that. You couldn't stop this man. Straight up assassin on the court. Greatest competitor of all time. Look up Lebron's numbers, man was 0 for 7 when his team could tie or win in similar situations. I dont understand how this is even a comparison. Lebron's great but he plays in a soft ass era where no one plays defense, he gets to rest all the time, misses a game if he wants to, gives up on plays all the time and overall never had the killer mentality. Lebron avoids the last few minutes, misses free throws and doesn't want the ball because he isn't "that guy". And you ain't that guy, then how are you the GOAT? Look at Lebron's stats in the last 24 seconds of a game. THEY ARE ABYSSMAL End of story.

A big reason why Jordan was and is the best ever, and you don't often hear it sited as a reason for his status as the GOAT, probably because it can't be measured, is his fierce determination to win and singular focus on the game. It's something that can't be taught or learned. When combined with his freakishly large hands, pure athleticism, and intelligence/understanding of the sport you get the necessary components to greatness in basketball. But that killer instinct and raging determination to win at all costs, I think, is what propelled him to the top of the all-time greats list

Correct - plus all they know of Jordan are his highlight reels. Its the same reason, I'll never feel comfortable gauging the dominance of Russell and Chamberlain who were before my time - I've only seen clips and don't know how the game was really played back then. I completely agree with younger fans that on the average there is more skill and athleticism now. However, with the rules as they are there today there is no incentive for the players to use their superior athleticism to play defense - the rules just don't allow it. A flagrant foul today is a no call in the 90s. You're better off saving your fouls and hustling back on offense instead of playing lockdown defense. Guys weren't as athletic back then but they played tough physical defense. Offensive players couldn't carry or travel to the extent that they do now either. You can show all the clips in the world of players getting knocked to the ground on a layup or all the handchecking but I don't think people understand until the watch a full game to see the frequency and that it happened. The off the ball stuff was just as rough as the layup beatdowns - Centers and forwards would practically assault each other trying to get post up position, bone jarring screens... You don't see that in highlight clips.

My favorite is when people say MJ got bounced out the playoffs 6 times failing to realize what they are actually saying is that he he never missed a post season in a Bulls jersey.
@roboninja3194
@roboninja3194 10 месяцев назад
Jordan as a rookie vowed to have the Bulls in the playoffs every season. How many times has Lebron failed to make the playoffs? 4 different times. And he had AD, Russ, Melo, and Dwight Howard in 2021 and couldn't make the playoffs. A team literally stock full of hall of fame players and they go 33-49.

My thoughts: 1.) When MJ was in the finals, no one else that came to the table ate. He was undeniably the greatest player in the league. That can’t be said about anyone else…. Ever. 2.) he was so good that even his SHOES got a movie about them. 3.) Undefeated in the finals. Undefeated in the Olympics. Undefeated in the Pan-Am games. Undefeated in the TOA games. 4.) Even when Michael Jackson was at his peak, when folks said “MJ is here”, folks were disappointed when it was Jackson 5.). -and most importantly- “BLACK JESUS” should be added to the dictionary

Bron rwally things his longevity stats can out-goat MJ. Funny thing is, Bron, Kobe and others chased him while Jordan only chased no one.
@sakdavid
@sakdavid 9 месяцев назад
No he did not, Kareem was never the undisputed GOAT and nobody ever compared MJ to him, because they played completely different positions. As for LeBron, he created expectations he could not live up to by himself, referring to himself the "chosen one" and the "king", because he craves attention, so if there's a drawback in that, it was self-inflicted. He did have the benefit of knowing that the undisputed GOAT standard was 6 championships, 6 FMVPs though -something that MJ didn't have as a reference- which is why he did everything in his power to maximize the duration of his career and why he started ring-chasing when he realised it was hard to win championships.

@@chasebeecham12 How come these players who are so good don't put up better numbers in a less defensive league? Bron got held to 9 by JJ Barea, where was that AI athleticism or magic talent. I mean it was JJ Barea. Jordan dominated the best defensive players the league has ever seen it just isn't even comparable. The warriors might be able to beat Jordans bulls but keep in mind Jordans bulls had two all stars. The warriors had 4 and even then Jordan is so good those games would be close. You just don't know what you are talking about.

The only thing i disagree with this is the fact if someone is bigger or more muscular makes them stronger , because Jordan came in the NBA known to the league as a skinny kid and he was being hammered by way bigger and stronger players than him and they never broke him down enough to stop him mentally or physically,i think it was magic that said once people don't understand how strong Micheal Jordan really is .

Thou it only takes a sec to see him even on utube and stand still til it's over the more u dig into his career the more u add. I imagine lots of people getting sad when Magic or Bird retired but the real blow to the nba was when MJ retired ,there won't be another like him. And strangely he never had the need for his wife to caress his ego naming or introducing him as the goat lol,some people don't need an introduction ,we all know who they are.
